Use the Galaxy Z Fold’s two screens as different parts of one camera workflow: the cover screen can show your subject a live preview, while the larger main screen gives you more room to compose. For a rear-camera selfie, Samsung documents a Fold6 workflow that lets you frame yourself on the cover screen. Exact controls and feature availability vary by Fold generation, software version and camera mode.
Choose the screen setup that fits the photo
Before opening Camera, decide who needs to see the preview and whether you need to hold the phone or set it down. The cover-screen workflow is useful when subjects want to check their pose; the main screen offers a larger view for composing; a partially folded phone can help with hands-free positioning when the device and app support Flex mode.

- Closed, cover screen: frame the scene on the cover screen. With Cover Screen Preview or Dual Screen Preview on a supported model and mode, your subject can also see the preview and adjust their pose or position. - Open, main screen: use the larger display to compose a shot. Samsung’s Fold7 guide covers opening Camera from either screen, selecting Photo, taking a picture and opening it in Gallery from the thumbnail. Samsung’s Fold7 camera guide.
- Partially folded: set the Fold on a stable, flat surface for hands-free framing when Flex mode and the Camera app are supported on your device. A timer can give you time to join the picture; check its controls on your model.
Let subjects see the cover-screen preview
For portraits and group photos, a cover-screen preview can make it easier for people in front of the camera to see how they are framed before you take the picture. They can adjust their expression, pose or position while you compose. Samsung’s Fold8 Ultra guide calls this Cover Screen Preview; Samsung’s Fold6 manual documents dual-screen preview. The names, controls and supported shooting modes are not universal across the Fold family.

Take a selfie with the rear cameras on Fold6
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 user manual describes taking a self-portrait with the rear camera while checking the cover-screen preview. Its steps are specific to the Fold6 workflow; do not assume the same button or sequence appears on other generations.
- Open Camera on the cover screen.
- Tap SELFIE.
- Unfold the phone and face the rear camera.
- Check your framing on the cover-screen preview, then take the picture.

Compose and refine a shot on the main screen
Open Camera on the main screen when you want a larger view of the frame. On the Fold7, Samsung’s guide describes choosing Photo, positioning the phone, capturing the image and opening it from the thumbnail in Gallery. The exact interface can differ by model and software version.

Use Shot suggestions as a guide on Fold6
The Fold6 manual documents Shot suggestions, which recognizes the subject’s position and angle and displays a recommended composition guide. Treat it as optional help: it does not guarantee a better composition, and its availability may depend on the mode and software.

Set focus and brightness on Fold6
In the Fold6 manual’s instructions, tap the viewfinder where you want focus, then use the displayed adjustment bar to change picture brightness. Controls and their presentation can vary on other models and software versions.
Samsung’s Fold7 camera guide covers basic camera use and viewing a captured image; Fold6-specific focus and composition guidance appears in the Fold6 user manual.

Set up a hands-free shot with Flex mode
On a compatible Fold and app, partially fold the phone into Flex mode and place it on a stable, flat surface so you can frame a hands-free photo. A timer can let you move into the frame, but the steps for setting one can vary, so check Camera on your particular device.

Open the cover-screen camera quickly on Fold7
On the Galaxy Z Fold7, double-pressing the Power button opens Camera on the Flex Window if the Side button’s double-press action is configured for Camera.
