Capture the current browser window

The dimensions in set_window_size(width, height) control the browser window used for the capture; choose dimensions that match the layout you want and verify the page in the target environment. Choose the capture target you actually need
Current browser window
driver.save_screenshot(...) is the straightforward choice for the current window. Do not assume it captures a long page from top to bottom: the documented method is a current-window screenshot, not a documented full-document capture.

To save one DOM element rather than the browser view, locate it and call its screenshot method:

If you need the whole long page, use a distinct full-page capture workflow and verify that it works with your browser, driver, and installed Selenium version. The ordinary current-window method above should not be presented as a full-page guarantee.

Save screenshot data without writing a file
The Python WebDriver API also provides PNG bytes and Base64 output. Choose one of those forms when your next step is to upload, encode, or process the capture in memory instead of saving a local file; consult the API documentation for the exact method names and behavior for your installed binding. Troubleshoot common capture problems
- No file appears: check that the destination directory exists and is writable, use an explicit path, and check the returned boolean. The API reports
Falsefor an I/O error. - The result shows the wrong layout: set the window dimensions before navigating or capturing, then confirm the page has rendered at those dimensions. Responsive layouts can differ with window size.
- The screenshot is not the whole page: the driver method captures the current window; switch to a verified full-page workflow for the entire document.
- The element capture is empty or misses the target: confirm the locator matches the intended element and that it is displayed. For an off-screen element, scroll it into view and account for pages that update or replace elements dynamically.
- Behavior differs across environments: confirm the Selenium binding version and browser/driver combination. The cited Python WebDriver reference is for Selenium 4.50.0; the cited WebElement reference surfaced as 4.33.0. Driver-specific behavior should be checked in the actual setup.
