How do I take a screenshot of Google Maps?
First position the map so the relevant place, route, labels, or directions are visible. A screenshot captures what is on screen at that moment, so zoom and pan before using your device’s capture control. Afterward, review the preview to crop or mark up the image if needed.

How to screenshot Google Maps on Android
- Open Google Maps and display the map or route you want to capture.
- Press the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
- Use the screenshot preview, when available, to review or edit the image.
If the button combination does not work, hold Power for a few seconds and tap Screenshot. Controls and preview behavior can vary by device; check your manufacturer’s support instructions if neither method works. On Android 12 and later, many scrollable screens also offer Capture more after the first capture, though availability depends on the screen.

- Open Google Maps and frame the map or route on screen.
- On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up together.
- On an iPhone with a Home button and side button, quickly press and release Side and Home together.
- Tap the preview to crop, mark up, or share the screenshot, or leave it to save it to Photos.

How to screenshot Google Maps on Mac
- Whole screen: Press Shift-Command-3.
- Selected area: Press Shift-Command-4, then drag across the portion of the map you want.
- Capture options: Press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app on macOS Mojave 10.14 or later.
For a selected-area capture, include the map details you need and avoid surrounding browser controls if you want a cleaner image. Apple’s full instructions are in Mac screenshot support.
Can I share a Google Maps screenshot?
Yes. Once you have captured the image, share it through your device’s photo or file-sharing options. In Google Maps, the Share workflow is for sharing a map link or embed; Google says it does not share an image of the map itself. Choose based on what the recipient needs:

Need Google Maps offline instead of an image?
If your goal is navigating without an internet connection, download an offline map in Google Maps rather than relying on a screenshot. Offline maps are available on Android and iPhone/iPad where supported, subject to country and regional availability; the route needs to fit within the downloaded area. Offline driving does not include traffic information or alternate routes, and offline transit, cycling, and walking directions are unavailable. What does Google Maps “Screenshot to save” do?
Screenshot to save is an optional Google Maps feature on iPhone and iPad in certain countries. It can identify place names in existing screenshots and help save selected places to a Maps list; it is not needed to take a screenshot. Google says the feature is off by default and uses Gemini. You can allow automatic scanning with full photo access or manually select screenshots with limited or no photo access; manual selection supports up to 50 screenshots at a time.
