On Windows, press Windows logo key + Shift + S; on a Mac, press Shift-Command-4 to select an area. Check the saved image for credentials, OTPs, or taxpayer details before sharing it.
Log in to the GST Portal and open the page
- Go to https://www.gst.gov.in/ and select Login.
- Enter your account credentials and complete the CAPTCHA shown on the page. Follow any additional on-screen verification prompts.
- If prompted, enter the OTP sent through the portal’s current verification process. An OTP is not required on every login: the GST Portal manual says a previously authenticated trusted browser or device may not need one each time. A first login, new device, repeated attempts, or other checks can prompt an OTP. See the GST Portal manual on logging in and managing credentials.
- Navigate to the specific page you need to capture. Ignore unrelated prompts or pages if they are not relevant to your screenshot.
The portal’s exact screens and verification sequence can change. Use the current prompts, and never give another person your password or OTP.

Take the screenshot on Windows
On Windows 10 or 11, press Windows logo key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool capture overlay. Choose the capture mode that fits what you need:
- Rectangle: drag around the relevant part of the GST page.
- Window: select the browser window.
- Full screen: capture the entire display.
- Freeform: draw an irregular selection.
The capture is copied to Snipping Tool, where you can edit it and save a copy. Microsoft documents these modes and the shortcut in its Snipping Tool instructions. The PrtSc key can also copy a full-screen capture, but its behavior depends on Windows settings and the device.

Take the screenshot on a Mac
- Selected area: press Shift-Command-4, then drag across the part of the page to capture.
- Entire screen: press Shift-Command-3.
- Window or menu: press Shift-Command-4, then press Space and select the window or menu.
- Screenshot controls: on macOS Mojave 10.14 or later, press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot controls, which include options such as a timer and save location.
By default, Mac screenshots are saved to the desktop. Apple’s screenshot instructions describe the shortcuts and controls.
Protect account and taxpayer information before sharing
Review the image itself before attaching it to an email, support ticket, or message. Capture only the portion needed to explain the issue; close unrelated tabs and hide notifications first where practical. Crop or obscure information that the recipient does not need, including credentials, OTPs, taxpayer identifiers, and financial details.

The GST Portal’s enrolment manual warns: “Do not disclose your confidential account information like username and password, security question and answers with anyone through written note, phone or e-mail message.” It also advises against saving passwords on public or shared systems. An OTP is also confidential; do not include a live code in a screenshot or send it to someone helping you. See the GST Portal enrolment manual.

Troubleshooting
- The portal asks for an OTP: follow the prompt and use the current code privately. OTP challenges may occur for a first login, new device, repeated attempts, or other security checks.
- The screenshot shortcut does nothing: confirm the key sequence for your operating system, then use its built-in Screenshot or Snipping Tool controls if available. On Windows, shortcut behavior and PrtSc settings can vary by device.
- The capture misses page content: select a larger region or capture the browser window. Scroll to the relevant section and capture it separately if the page does not fit clearly in one image.
- The shared image reveals extra information: do not send it as-is. Create a corrected capture or redact unnecessary details, then inspect the final file before sharing.
