On an iPhone: open the page in Safari, take a normal screenshot, tap its preview, choose Full Page, then save the result to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF. This option appears in the screenshot editor for content longer than the screen; it is not a separate Safari menu command.
On a Mac, Safari does not document an equivalent “Full Page” screenshot button. Use macOS Screenshot for the visible screen, a window or a selected area, or use Safari’s File > Save As command when you need the entire page as a Web Archive or Page Source file.
Take a full-page Safari screenshot on iPhone
The following procedure applies to a Safari webpage that extends below the iPhone display. Apple labels the long capture Full Page.
- Open the webpage. Launch Safari and load the page you want to preserve. Let important content finish loading before capturing it.
- Take a screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the side button and Home button together.
- Open the editor. Tap the thumbnail preview that appears briefly in the lower-left corner. If it disappears, take the screenshot again.
- Choose Full Page. At the top of the screenshot editor, tap Full Page. A tall preview of the webpage appears, including content below the original viewport.
- Review and crop. Scroll through the long preview. Use the crop controls if you want to remove browser chrome, blank space or unrelated sections.
- Save the result. Choose the option to save an image to Photos when you need a conventional picture. Choose the PDF-to-Files option when the capture should be a document in the Files app.
The Full Page tab is selected in the screenshot interface after capture. Do not look for a “full-page screenshot” command in Safari’s page menu.

Image or PDF: which should you choose?

Safari on iPhone also has a distinct workflow for sharing a webpage, opening it in Markup and saving it as a PDF. That route is useful when annotation is the priority; it is not a second Full Page screenshot mode.
What the iPhone capture includes—and what to check
- Length: the preview represents content beyond the first screen, so inspect the complete strip before saving.
- Loading state: images, embedded media or lazy-loaded sections may not be ready if you capture immediately. Wait for the page to settle and scroll once if a site loads content only when it enters view.
- Access restrictions: Apple’s instructions describe the feature for webpage content, but they do not promise identical rendering for every dynamic, authenticated or access-restricted element. Verify the saved file if the page is important.
- Privacy: the capture can include account names, order details, addresses or other information that appears anywhere on the page. Review the long preview before sharing it.
Safari on Mac: the built-in alternatives
Mac and iPhone have different documented workflows. macOS Screenshot controls capture the entire screen, a window or a selected portion; they are not described as a Safari full-page webpage image tool.
Capture what is visible
- Open the page in Safari and arrange the window as you want it to appear.
- Open the macOS Screenshot controls and choose the entire screen, a window or a selected portion.
- Capture the view and save the resulting image using the location offered by macOS.
This method is appropriate for a visible section, a dialog or a page state that cannot be represented as one continuous image. It will not automatically stitch content below the viewport.
Save the complete webpage as a file
- In Safari, choose File > Save As.
- Choose Web Archive when you want a saved page package that preserves graphics and links insofar as their destination pages remain available.
- Choose Page Source when you need the HTML source rather than a visual document.
- Save the file and reopen it to confirm that the material you need is present.
Safari notes that some webpages may prevent saving items shown on the page. A Web Archive or Page Source file is therefore a different deliverable from a long screenshot image: it preserves page data or source, not a guaranteed pixel-for-pixel picture of every rendered state.

Common problems and fixes
“Full Page” is missing
Confirm that you opened the screenshot editor by tapping the thumbnail preview, rather than viewing the image in Photos later. The Full Page option is provided for content longer than the screen in the screenshot interface. If the captured content is treated as a single short screen, there may be no extended preview to select.
The saved image stops at the first screen
Reopen the thumbnail immediately after taking the screenshot and select Full Page before saving. If you already saved the ordinary screenshot, take a new one; the short image cannot be expanded afterward.
Images or sections are blank
Wait for the page to finish loading, dismiss overlays and, if necessary, scroll through the page once so lazy-loaded material has a chance to appear. For an access-controlled or highly interactive page, compare the saved output with Safari’s live view.
The PDF is not where you expected
The Full Page PDF option uses the Files workflow, not Photos. Open Files and check the location you selected in the save sheet. Use the image option instead when the destination must be Photos.

A Mac screenshot does not include the whole page
That is expected from macOS Screenshot: its documented capture units are the screen, a window and a selected area. Use Safari’s Web Archive save command for a complete page file, or capture several regions manually when an image is required.
Safari will not save part of a page on Mac
Some webpages can prevent saving items displayed on the page. Try saving a Web Archive and verify its contents, or use a visible-region screenshot for the portion you are allowed to preserve.

Reliability, performance and cost
Use a selector or network-idle wait when a page renders asynchronously, and a longer client timeout for heavy pages. Cache with a TTL when the page does not change often; cache hits are not billed. For many URLs, use bulk capture or asynchronous jobs rather than holding one request open per page. Check the verdict and billing headers in your integration so failed or blocked pages are handled explicitly.

Does a Mac Web Archive create a single PNG of the webpage?
No. Web Archive saves page data, graphics and links as a webpage file where available. macOS Screenshot creates images of the screen, a window or a selected area.
Can I save both an image and a PDF from one iPhone capture?
Yes. After reviewing the Full Page preview, save an image to Photos and repeat the save action for the PDF-to-Files option if you need both formats.
Why might an authenticated page look different in a saved capture?
Dynamic, authenticated and access-restricted elements are not guaranteed to render identically in every capture. Check the saved output against the live Safari page before relying on it.
