What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For a quick image of what is currently visible, press Windows+Shift+S and select an area with Snipping Tool. To capture a long webpage all the way below the fold, use a browser’s full-page screenshot feature—Microsoft Edge or Firefox—rather than a standard screen snip. If you need a document to read or print, save the page as a PDF instead.
The right method depends on what the result must include: a selected part of your screen, the whole webpage, or a printable document. Here are the built-in options first, followed by more advanced capture methods and a browser-free API option for automated work.
Choose the right kind of capture
| What you need | Use | Result |
|---|---|---|
| A selected area, open window, or visible screen | Windows Snipping Tool | An image of the screen content you select |
| The entire webpage, including content below the visible area | Edge Screenshot or Firefox Screenshot | A full-page image |
| A multipage document for reading, printing, or archiving | The browser’s Print or Save as PDF workflow | A PDF, whose pagination and layout can differ from an image |
| Repeatable or automated captures | Firefox Developer Tools, Chrome Headless, or a screenshot API | An image or PDF, depending on the tool and settings |
A normal screen snip captures pixels within the screen or a selected region. It does not automatically scroll down a long webpage. If your screenshot must include everything below the fold, choose a browser’s full-page option.

- Open the webpage and arrange it so the content you want is visible.
- Press Windows+Shift+S. You can also open Snipping Tool from Start; Microsoft also documents Print Screen as an opening route.
- Choose a capture mode: rectangle, window, full screen, or freeform.
- Select the area or window to capture. The snip is copied into Snipping Tool, where you can edit it, copy it, save it, or share it.
Use the delay option, where available, if you need time to open a menu or show a hover state before the capture. The delay is useful for screen states that disappear when you interact with the snipping controls.
Save or copy the snip
After capture, open the snip in Snipping Tool if it does not appear there automatically. Use the app’s save controls to create an image file, or copy the capture to paste it into another app. Choose a file location and format that suit how you plan to use it; the exact controls can vary with the version of Windows and Snipping Tool.
Capture a full webpage in Microsoft Edge
Edge’s built-in Screenshot feature is the straightforward choice when you want an image of a long page without manually joining multiple screen captures.
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Open Screenshot from the page’s right-click menu or from Settings, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the full-page capture option if you need the page beyond the visible area. Choose a selected-area capture if you only want part of it.
- Use the capture overlay to copy or save the image. You can also add markup or comments before copying or saving.
Microsoft describes Edge Screenshot as able to capture full pages or selected areas, including long or moving webpages, and says it can preserve moving content such as GIFs or carousels during capture. Treat that as a description of the feature, not a guarantee that every animation or site will appear exactly as expected. Microsoft also notes that Screenshot availability and functionality may vary by device, market, and browser version.

Capture a full webpage in Firefox
Firefox includes a screenshot tool with separate choices for the full page and the currently visible area.
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux.
- Choose Save full page to capture the document beyond the viewport, or Save visible to capture only what is currently shown.
- Download the PNG image or copy it to the clipboard.
Firefox’s capture interface can also let you select a region or choose an automatically highlighted part of a page. Those options are useful when you want a specific content block rather than the entire document.
Use Firefox Developer Tools for element-specific captures
If you need to capture one page element, delay a capture, or make settings repeatable, Firefox Developer Tools provide a more advanced route. In the Web Console, the screenshot helper can capture the full page with:
:screenshot --fullpage
The helper also documents options for a delay, filename, clipboard output, device-pixel-ratio, and a CSS selector that limits the capture to a selected element and its descendants. This is more involved than the built-in screenshot menu: it is best suited to developers or users who specifically need those controls. Consult Firefox’s built-in help for the exact options supported by your installed version.

Save a webpage as a PDF instead of an image
Choose PDF when your main goal is a multipage document for reading, printing, or keeping—not a pixel-for-pixel screenshot. Browser print output may paginate or reflow content differently from the webpage on screen, so check the preview before saving or printing.
Print from Edge
- Open the page in Edge.
- Open Print from Settings and more, or press Ctrl+P on Windows.
- Review the print settings and preview. Edge exposes options including background graphics and headers and footers.
- Choose the available PDF destination or save-to-PDF option in the print interface, then save the file.
If a page contains navigation or other clutter that you do not need, Edge documents Immersive Reader as a clutter-free printing workaround where that feature is available.
Use Chrome Headless for command-line output
For developer workflows, Chrome Headless documents options including --screenshot for an image, --window-size to set capture dimensions, --print-to-pdf for a PDF, and --timeout to wait up to a chosen time before capture. These are command-line options for headless Chrome, not steps in the regular Chrome window. For a one-off capture by hand, the browser interface is usually simpler; for repeatable jobs, use the headless options and verify the saved output.
Automate captures without managing a browser
For a developer who needs website captures in an application or workflow, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts a URL in one GET request and returns an image or PDF. The API supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP output, along with full-page captures, CSS-selector element capture, custom viewport sizes, device presets, and other capture settings. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request parameters and options.

Use an API key in place of YOUR_API_KEY. This cURL example saves a WebP capture of the page:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Equivalent Python:
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Equivalent Node.js using the built-in fetch API:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses indicate the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and other MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots, and every feature is available on every plan. Troubleshoot common capture problems
The screenshot stops at the bottom of the browser window
You likely used Snipping Tool or a visible-area capture. Open the browser’s full-page screenshot feature instead: choose full page in Edge or Save full page in Firefox. A screen snip captures the selected screen area; it does not scroll through the webpage.
You cannot find Screenshot in Edge
Try the documented shortcut Ctrl+Shift+S, or look for Screenshot in the right-click menu or Settings. If the feature is still unavailable, remember that Microsoft says its availability and functionality can vary by device, market, and browser version; use Firefox’s full-page screenshot or capture the visible portion with Snipping Tool instead.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The capture misses a menu, hover state, or transient content
For content that requires a pause before capture, use Snipping Tool’s delay where available or Firefox Developer Tools’ documented delay option. A full-page capture may also interact differently with moving or dynamically loaded elements than a static screen snip; review the saved image and try again after the content has loaded or settled.

The page is too long, or the saved image is unwieldy
Decide whether you truly need one tall image. If the goal is reading or printing, PDF is often a better fit. If only a particular section matters, use Firefox’s selection controls, Edge’s selected-area capture, or Firefox Developer Tools’ CSS-selector option rather than capturing the entire page.
The PDF layout does not match the screen
Print output is a document layout, not a screenshot. Check the preview and settings such as background graphics and headers or footers. If the page offers Immersive Reader in Edge, Microsoft documents it as a cleaner printing route where available.
Which method should you use?
- Just a visible section: Windows+Shift+S, then select a Snipping Tool mode.
- The full page as an image: use Edge Screenshot or Firefox Screenshot and choose the full-page option.
- A printable or readable document: use the browser’s print-to-PDF workflow.
- Precise or repeated developer captures: use Firefox Developer Tools or Chrome Headless when their controls fit the job; use an API when you want to request captures without setting up a browser locally.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take a screenshot of a website without installing an app?
Yes. Windows Snipping Tool and the built-in screenshot tools in Edge and Firefox provide capture options without requiring a separate screenshot application.
Recommended Free Tools
Will a full-page screenshot include content that loads only after scrolling?
Not necessarily. Pages that load content dynamically can behave differently during capture, so inspect the result and use a delay or other loading controls if your chosen tool provides them.
