Use Puppeteer’s page.screenshot() method: launch a browser, navigate to the URL, then save the capture with a path. Set a known viewport when dimensions matter, and choose viewport, full-page, clipped-region, or element capture to match the result you need. The examples below use the workflow documented for Puppeteer 25.12.0; your installed version may differ.
Take a basic page screenshot
Install Puppeteer in your TypeScript project with npm install puppeteer. This example saves a PNG to the current working directory and closes the browser even if navigation or capture fails:

Puppeteer’s screenshots guide uses this same launch, navigate, capture, and close sequence. networkidle2 is a navigation wait condition, not proof that every image, animation, or client-rendered component is visually finished; for dynamic pages, wait for a page-specific selector or condition as needed.

Visible viewport
By default, Puppeteer captures the currently visible viewport. Set its dimensions explicitly before navigation for more consistent output:

A clipped region
Use clip when you need a rectangle rather than the whole viewport or a DOM element. Coordinates are relative to the page’s screenshot area:

});Set the output format and handling
Use path to write an image file. Puppeteer infers the format from the path extension when applicable; the screenshot options also allow an explicit type. Without a path, page.screenshot() returns image data as a Uint8Array. With encoding: 'base64', it returns a string instead. - Set a deliberate viewport before navigation instead of relying on the headless default.
- Choose viewport capture for a screen-sized image and
fullPage: truefor the document’s full height. - Wait for a page-specific selector when content appears after navigation; network-idle waiting alone does not guarantee visual completeness.
- Use the browser version Puppeteer expects where possible. Puppeteer says it is only guaranteed to work with its bundled browser; choosing another executable with
executablePathis at your own risk. See LaunchOptions.
Troubleshoot common screenshot problems
The screenshot is blank or missing content
Navigation may have completed before the page rendered the content you expect. Wait for a relevant selector with page.waitForSelector() or another page-specific condition before capturing. A network-idle condition is a navigation strategy, not a guarantee that a dynamic page is visually complete.
The full-page image has unexpected dimensions
Check whether you are using the default viewport or have set a viewport explicitly. Viewport screenshots and full-page screenshots have different capture scopes; set the viewport deliberately and confirm that fullPage is enabled only when you want the whole document.

Element capture throws an error
Confirm the selector resolves to the intended element and that the element remains attached until the screenshot finishes. Puppeteer documents detached elements as an error case for element screenshots.
The browser fails to launch with a custom executable
If you supplied executablePath, try the browser version bundled for your Puppeteer installation. Compatibility with other browser versions is not guaranteed by Puppeteer.
