A normal screenshot captures what is visible; a full-page or scrolling capture extends beyond the screen when your browser, app, phone, or operating system supports it. The steps below cover iPhone, Android, Windows, and Chromebook, plus a browser-based option for developers who need a repeatable image or PDF.
Choose the kind of capture you need
Before pressing a button, choose the output that matches your purpose:

A screenshot records how the article appeared at capture time. It does not prove that the story is still online or that its claims remain current. When sharing, keep the publication name, headline, and date visible whenever practical.
iPhone: capture the screen or the entire Safari page
Take a regular screenshot
- Open the article in Safari or the app where you are reading it.
- On an iPhone with Face ID, press the side button and volume-up button together, then release.
- On an iPhone with a Home button, press the side (or top) button and the Home button together, then release.
- Tap the thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner if you want to crop, mark up, or share immediately. Otherwise it is saved to Photos.
Capture the full webpage in Safari
Apple documents a Full Page option for webpage captures in Safari. It is not guaranteed in every app or for every type of content.

- Take a screenshot while the article is open in Safari.
- Tap the screenshot thumbnail.
- Select Full Page at the top of the editor.
- Use the preview strip on the right to inspect the complete page and drag the crop handles if you do not need every section.
- Tap the share icon, then choose Save to Files to save the full-page capture as a PDF, or use another available sharing destination.
In Safari, the full-page view can include content below the fold. If Full Page does not appear, the current app or content does not expose Apple’s documented workflow; use several regular screenshots or a desktop browser’s full-page tool instead. Android: use a standard or scrolling screenshot
Take a standard screenshot
- Open the article and position the screen at the section you want.
- Press Power + Volume down at the same time and release.
- If that combination does not work on your phone, hold the Power button for a few seconds and tap Screenshot when the system menu appears. Manufacturer interfaces can use different controls.
- Tap the preview to edit or share, or find the image in your Photos/Gallery app.
Extend it with scrolling capture
Google says Android 12 and later support scrolling screenshots on most screens that allow scrolling. The exact button label varies by manufacturer.
- Take the standard screenshot.
- Tap Capture more, Scroll, or a similar button in the screenshot toolbar.
- Extend the selection until the end of the article, then tap Save.
If no scrolling control appears, the app may block it, the screen may not be scrollable, or the phone may use a manufacturer-specific implementation. Check your phone maker’s support site for the current instructions. Google’s general guidance is in Take a screenshot or record your screen on your Android device.
Windows: Snipping Tool for what is visible, Edge for a full webpage
Capture a selected area with Snipping Tool
- Open the article and press Windows logo key + Shift + S, or open Snipping Tool from the Start menu.
- Choose rectangular, freeform, window, or full-screen snip.
- Select the article area. The result is copied to the clipboard and can be opened in Snipping Tool for markup and saving.
- Save the image where you can find it, such as Pictures or your project folder.
Microsoft’s Snipping Tool instructions describe screen captures, not a universal full-article mode. A normal snip therefore captures only the pixels currently available on the screen.

Capture a complete page in Microsoft Edge
- Open the article in Microsoft Edge.
- Open the browser menu or use Edge’s Screenshot command.
- Choose Capture full page rather than a selected area.
- Review the result, add markup if needed, then copy or save it.
Edge’s feature page says its Screenshot tool can capture a full page or selected area and supports markup before copying or saving. Availability and menu placement can change with Edge updates; consult Microsoft’s Edge Screenshot page if the command is missing. Other Windows browsers may offer different commands or no built-in full-page capture.
Chromebook: full screen, window, or selection
- If your keyboard has a dedicated Screenshot key, press it.
- Otherwise open Quick Settings and select Screen Capture, or press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows.
- Choose full screen, partial screen, or window capture.
- Select the area or window and confirm.
Chromebook saves screenshots in Downloads by default. In the Screen Capture controls, open settings if you want to change the destination. A built-in capture records the chosen screen area; a complete, vertically scrolling news page may still require a browser feature or multiple captures. Google lists the current shortcuts and controls in Take a screenshot or record your screen.
When the article will not fit in one capture
Use the browser’s full-page command
On desktop, look for wording such as Full page, Entire page, or Capture full webpage. This is browser-dependent, so do not assume a shortcut from Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or another browser works everywhere.
Capture in sections
If full-page capture is unavailable, take overlapping screenshots while scrolling. Keep the headline, publication, and date in the first image, and avoid cropping so tightly that readers cannot identify the source. Overlap a few lines between images to make their order clear.

Use print-to-PDF when an image is not required
For archiving an article’s layout and text, the browser’s print dialog can often produce a PDF. This is a document export rather than a screenshot, and advertisements or interactive elements may be treated differently. Check the preview before saving.

The shortcut does nothing
- Release and press the buttons simultaneously rather than holding them.
- On Android, try Power, then tap Screenshot, and check the manufacturer’s instructions.
- On Windows, launch Snipping Tool directly if the keyboard shortcut is intercepted by another app.
The full-page option is missing
- Confirm you are in Safari on iPhone for Apple’s documented Full Page workflow.
- On Android, verify the screen scrolls and the phone runs Android 12 or later.
- On Windows, use a browser that provides a full-page feature, such as Edge’s Screenshot tool; Snipping Tool alone is not a universal webpage scroller.
The capture is cut off or blank
- Wait for the article and its images to finish loading before capturing.
- Try a shorter selection or capture overlapping sections.
- For automated captures, wait for a selector, a delay, or network idle; block problematic requests only when you understand their effect on the page.
The file is too large to share
- Crop to the relevant passage while retaining the headline and source.
- Use JPEG or WebP for photographic pages, or resize the image.
- Choose PDF when a recipient needs searchable text rather than a raster image.
FAQ
Can a screenshot show an article that has been deleted?
Only if you captured it while it was displayed or have another saved copy. A screenshot is not a substitute for a permanent source.

Why are ads or consent notices still visible?
Built-in device captures record the screen as shown. Remove overlays manually, use the site’s reader view where appropriate, or use an automated capture that supports cleanup before rendering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I screenshot a paywalled news article?
You can capture content that your account is authorized to view, subject to the publication’s terms. Do not bypass access controls or share material in ways that violate copyright or subscription rules.
How do I preserve the article’s date and source?
Include the headline, publication name, publication date, and URL in the visible capture when possible; otherwise record them beside the image in your notes.
