To screenshot an iframe’s visible box, select the <iframe> in the parent page and call ElementHandle.screenshot(). To capture a particular element inside the framed document, get the iframe’s Frame and screenshot that inner element instead. Puppeteer scrolls an element into view for an element screenshot; a handle that has been detached from the DOM causes an error.
Capture the iframe element’s visible rectangle
The iframe element belongs to the parent page’s DOM. This example selects it there and saves a screenshot of its rendered box:

Capture an element inside the iframe
If you want a specific part of the framed document rather than the iframe’s outer rectangle, obtain the frame and locate the target in that frame. For example:

Frame.waitForSelector() waits for a matching element in that frame, including across navigations; consult the Frame.waitForSelector() reference. The selector must match content that actually appears in the frame.

For a page-level capture, Puppeteer’s Page.screenshot() API accepts screenshot options and returns image bytes by default, or base64 when configured. It is not a substitute for selecting an element when you only want that element.

Handle timing and detached elements
- Wait for the target: use
waitForSelector()rather than assuming the iframe or its content is already present. - Reacquire replaced elements: if a page update removes and recreates the iframe or target, an earlier element handle may be detached.
ElementHandle.screenshot()throws if its element has detached; select it again after the update. - Check which document owns the selector: use the parent page to select the iframe itself, and the returned
Frameto select content inside it. - Allow for page-specific rendering: the documented APIs describe selection and capture, but do not establish behavior for every cross-origin, sandboxed, lazy-loaded, or animated iframe. If the target is missing or the output is incomplete, check the page’s load timing, selector, and rendering state.
Troubleshooting
“iframe not found”
Confirm the parent-page selector, such as iframe#preview, matches the live DOM. If the page inserts the iframe later, wait for it to appear before capturing.

The selected iframe handle does not currently provide an attached frame. Check that the iframe has loaded and has not been replaced, then reacquire the handle and call contentFrame() again.

“inner target not found”
The selector may belong to the parent document rather than the framed document, or the inner content may not have appeared yet. Verify the selector in the frame and wait for the page’s actual rendering state.
Screenshot fails after a page update
The element handle may point to a DOM node that was removed. Wait for the replacement and obtain a new handle before calling screenshot().
