Capture a page with a self-signed certificate
The example below uses CommonJS and saves a full-page PNG. Install Puppeteer in your project first; its launch method works best with the Chrome for Testing browser Puppeteer downloads by default.

Why the certificate option belongs at launch
acceptInsecureCerts is documented on Puppeteer’s ConnectOptions. LaunchOptions extends ConnectOptions, so set it on the browser launch options as shown. It allows navigation to proceed despite HTTPS certificate errors; it does not repair the certificate, add it to a trust store, or change how other clients treat it.

Keep this exception limited to the automation session and environment that require it. If you control the development environment, configuring a locally trusted development certificate is a better long-term approach than having automation accept an invalid certificate.
Use the current option name
Current Puppeteer uses acceptInsecureCerts. The Puppeteer 23.0.0 changelog, dated 2024-08-07, records the breaking rename from ignoreHttpsErrors. If a snippet or your installed typings use the older name, check the installed Puppeteer version and update the option accordingly. See the Puppeteer changelog.

Choose when the page is ready to capture
- Launch the browser with
acceptInsecureCerts: true. - Create a page and navigate to the HTTPS URL with
page.goto(). - Wait for the state your capture needs. The example uses
waitUntil: 'networkidle2'; pages with ongoing network activity may need a different readiness condition. - Await
page.screenshot(). UsefullPage: truefor a full-page image, or omit it for the viewport capture. The API also documents returning screenshot bytes or base64 data. - Close the browser in a
finallyblock so it is cleaned up if navigation or capture fails.
Troubleshoot failed or unexpected captures
- Navigation still reaches a certificate interstitial or fails: confirm
acceptInsecureCerts: trueis in the launch options for the browser session that owns the page. Check the installed Puppeteer version and typings to ensure the property is supported. - Your snippet uses
ignoreHttpsErrors: replace it withacceptInsecureCertsfor current Puppeteer; the old name was renamed in Puppeteer 23.0.0. - A system-installed Chrome behaves differently: check the Puppeteer and browser versions. Puppeteer says its downloaded Chrome for Testing pairing works best and does not guarantee compatibility with arbitrary Chrome versions; see PuppeteerNode.launch().
- The file is missing or incomplete: verify that the destination is writable and that your code awaits
page.screenshot()before closing the browser. The screenshot API returns a promise. - The capture omits content or waits indefinitely: review the page’s load behavior and your chosen readiness condition. A page that continues making requests may not reach the state you expect with a network-idle wait.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does accepting an insecure certificate make the website’s certificate valid?
No. It only lets the configured Puppeteer browser session continue despite HTTPS certificate errors; it does not make the certificate trusted by other clients.
Can I use this setting with a browser I connect to instead of launching?
