Then inspect the result in the same runtime you use for production: a successful page load does not guarantee that the intended font was selected or that all Gujarati text is covered.
Why Gujarati screenshots can show the wrong font
Gujarati is an Indic script that needs appropriate glyph coverage and complex text shaping. A font file installed somewhere on the host is not enough: the browser rendering the page must be able to access a suitable font and use it to shape the text. If the requested family is unavailable or lacks a character, CSS font fallback can silently select another family.

Noto’s font guidance describes the browser walking down the CSS family stack when a font lacks the necessary characters. Put the intended Gujarati family first, then include a general font for Latin characters, punctuation, and anything the Gujarati font does not cover. Choose a font and make it available to Chromium
Choose the family for the page
For general page text, Noto Sans Gujarati is a practical script-specific sans-serif choice. Noto Sans Gujarati UI is intended for interface text where vertical space is limited; choose it only if that compact UI style fits the design. Noto’s specimen says the UI font contains 816 glyphs and supports 164 characters across five Unicode blocks. Those figures describe that font file, not every Gujarati font or whether a particular page uses it.

Load the font in the capture environment
If the page already loads the font from a web-font stylesheet, confirm that Chromium can reach the stylesheet and font files. If you control the page, set a specific family stack in its CSS. For a Linux container or CI worker, install the font files in the image or runtime that launches Chromium; fonts available on your workstation may not exist in the container.
For a managed browser session, Cloudflare documents injecting custom font rules with Puppeteer’s page.addStyleTag(). The browser still needs access to the font URL used by the rule. See Cloudflare Browser Run’s Puppeteer documentation and Puppeteer’s troubleshooting guide.
Set the CSS family explicitly
Use the exact family name exposed by the loaded font or stylesheet. For example:

Capture only after the page and fonts are ready
The following CommonJS-style example uses Puppeteer’s familiar require import. It navigates, waits for the document’s font-loading promise, and saves a full-page PNG. Install Puppeteer in your project first, and replace the URL with the page you are capturing.

When network-idle navigation is unsuitable
Pages with persistent network activity may never reach networkidle0. In that case, select a navigation condition appropriate to the page, then wait for a page-specific ready signal if the site renders content asynchronously. Still await document.fonts.ready before the screenshot. That promise indicates font loading has settled; it does not prove the desired Gujarati family was chosen or that it covers every character.
Validate the actual output
- Inspect Gujarati conjuncts and vowel marks, not just a Latin heading.
- Check mixed Gujarati and Latin text, punctuation, and numerals as they appear on the page.
- Inspect the computed
font-familyfor the relevant text and check that the browser successfully fetched the font resource. - Repeat validation inside the exact Docker, CI, or managed-browser runtime used for the capture.
For a specimen of script details and the Noto font’s scope, consult Noto Sans Gujarati. Noto describes Gujarati as an Indic abugida written left-to-right without a headstroke; its published user figure is not independently validated here.

Keep captures consistent across environments
Font metrics affect line wrapping and element geometry. For reproducible screenshots, keep the browser version, installed fonts, page CSS, content and viewport consistent between local development and CI. Compare captures only after the page’s fonts are ready. The cited Puppeteer documentation describes page controls and deployment troubleshooting, but it does not quantify cross-platform pixel differences.
There are three practical ways to supply the font, with different operational tradeoffs rather than a universally best choice:
- Install the font with the browser runtime: gives you control over the container’s font inventory, but you must package and maintain the font in each relevant runtime.
- Load a web font: avoids packaging the font in the image, but depends on network access and successful font loading during capture.
- Inject a font rule in a managed browser: can fit a hosted-browser workflow, but the session still needs to access the font resource.
These are implementation tradeoffs, not benchmark results; the cited sources do not rank the approaches by speed or reliability.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect Gujarati text
The page uses an unexpected typeface
Check the computed font-family, the exact family spelling, and whether the stylesheet and font file loaded successfully. Confirm that the Gujarati family appears first in the stack and covers the characters in your content. Fallback is normal when a family is missing or lacks a character; an installed font is not proof that it was used.

It works locally but not in Docker or CI
The container may not have the same fonts as your workstation. Install the Gujarati font in the image or load it explicitly as a web font, then verify its availability in the Chromium runtime that takes the screenshot. Puppeteer’s Linux and container troubleshooting material covers deployment dependencies and fonts, but its example charset list does not specifically certify Gujarati coverage.
The page never reaches network idle
Persistent connections or ongoing page requests can prevent networkidle0 from completing. Use a suitable navigation condition and wait for the page’s own rendering signal, followed by document.fonts.ready, rather than relying on network idle alone.
The font appears installed, but glyphs still look broken
Check that the selected font has the needed Gujarati coverage and that shaping works in the actual Chromium build. Test real page text, including conjuncts and vowel marks. Gujarati needs complex text shaping; installation alone does not establish correct rendering.

First ensure both captures use the same viewport, browser/runtime settings and font inventory, and that fonts finished loading before capture. Font metrics can change line wrapping and element positions. The available Puppeteer documentation does not establish a numerical tolerance for cross-platform pixel differences.
