How to Take a Playwright Screenshot of a Bengali Website After Web Fonts Load

Wait for the browser’s font-loading set to settle before capturing: navigate to the page, await document.fonts.ready, then take the screenshot. This helps avoid capturing while requested web fonts are still loading, but it does not prove that every Bengali character uses the intended font or renders correctly.

Take a one-off screenshot after fonts settle

In a Playwright script, use page evaluation to await the browser’s document.fonts.ready promise between navigation and capture:

await page.goto(url);
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await page.screenshot({ path: 'bengali.png', fullPage: true });

document.fonts.ready is a browser API, not a Playwright-specific font guarantee. It resolves after fonts used by the document have finished loading or failed. Playwright supplies the navigation, page evaluation and screenshot operations that let you use it in your capture flow. See the Playwright Page API for current screenshot options, including output path, format and full-page capture.

Use a screenshot assertion for visual regression

If the goal is to compare a page against a maintained baseline in Playwright Test, use its screenshot assertion rather than saving an unverified one-off image:

  • INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
  • THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
  • WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
  • A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
await page.goto(url);
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot('bengali.png');

toHaveScreenshot() retries until two consecutive screenshots match, then compares the last screenshot with the expected image. This is a Playwright Test feature; use it when the test runner and reference-image workflow are part of your project. See Playwright’s visual comparisons documentation.

What the font wait confirms—and what it does not

Once the promise resolves, the document’s font-loading set has settled. A font may have failed to load, CSS may have selected a fallback, or the selected font may not contain all Bengali glyphs on the page. The promise alone cannot confirm the intended font was selected or that Bengali text looks correct.

  • Inspect the resulting screenshot for missing, substituted or visibly inconsistent characters.
  • If you suspect a failed font request, check the page’s network activity. Playwright classifies font requests with the font resource type; see the Request API.
  • Do not infer a particular Bengali font family or complete Bengali glyph coverage from a successful wait. The wait reports loading-set completion, not typographic correctness.

Make screenshots comparable across machines

Browser screenshots can vary across browsers and platforms because rendering, fonts and other environment details differ. Create and compare visual baselines in a consistent environment, including the browser and host platform. If your production users run in a particular environment, use that same environment for the relevant reference captures. Playwright explains these differences in its visual comparisons guide.

Avoid fixed sleeps as a font-readiness strategy

A delay such as waitForTimeout(2000) does not tell you whether fonts have finished loading: it may be longer than necessary or too short on a slow run. Wait on the browser’s font-set readiness signal instead. Playwright describes page.waitForTimeout() as discouraged for production tests because time-based tests are inherently flaky; see the Page API.

Troubleshoot Bengali text that still looks wrong

  • The capture shows fallback or substituted characters: the font wait can resolve after a request fails. Inspect font requests and confirm the page’s CSS and network responses load the expected font.
  • Some Bengali characters look correct but others do not: a loaded font may not cover every glyph in the text. The readiness promise does not test glyph coverage; inspect the actual capture and verify the font’s coverage independently.
  • The screenshot changes between runs or computers: keep the browser and host platform consistent for baseline generation and comparison, and use a readiness signal rather than a fixed delay.
  • The assertion times out or keeps differing: check whether the page has other changing content in addition to font loading. The screenshot assertion waits for consecutive matching captures, but font readiness alone does not make the entire page static.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its one-request API can return an image or PDF without running your own Playwright capture setup. For example, request the Bengali page URL in place of the sample URL:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Before the shot, it accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response reports the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
