Capture only the smallest useful area, then inspect the saved image before sharing it. Selectors depend on the bank page; there is no universal selector that safely redacts every Indian bank website. Never include your banking ID, password, PIN, or OTP in a screenshot.
Choose a safe test context first
If you are demonstrating the technique, use a synthetic or otherwise authorized test page rather than a real customer account. Do not enter real banking credentials or OTPs just to make a tutorial image. When you need to visit a bank, use its verified official website; RBI advises using trusted browsers and HTTPS-secured sites for payments and warns against entering credentials on untrusted portals. RBI also says never to share an internet banking ID, password, mobile banking PIN, or OTP, including with bank staff. A redacted screenshot is not a reason to send credentials through chat, issue trackers, or support requests.

Identify what must be hidden
Before writing selectors, determine what the particular page reveals: account numbers, balances, names, transaction details, or other private information. Bank pages have different markup and may reveal more content after scrolling or interacting. Do not assume a selector copied from an example will match your bank.

The examples below use placeholder selectors, not selectors verified against any Indian bank. Adapt them only in an authorized, non-sensitive test context. Playwright documents the screenshot options in its Page API reference.
Mask known sensitive elements with Playwright
For elements you can identify reliably, pass their locators in the screenshot’s mask array. Playwright covers each matched locator’s bounding box with an overlay; its documented default mask color is pink (#FF00FF). Check that the overlay covers the sensitive value without obscuring important context.

});The [data-sensitive=...] selectors are illustrative placeholders. If a locator does not match, that content will not be covered. Identify and verify the page’s actual regions rather than treating this snippet as a bank-specific recipe.

Hide content with a capture-time stylesheet
When CSS selectors are a better fit, page.screenshot accepts a style string that is applied during capture. Playwright documents that this stylesheet pierces Shadow DOM and inner frames. The following class names are placeholders and must be replaced with selectors that match the authorized page you are capturing.

});With this approach, hidden content may leave empty space in the layout. As with locator masks, a selector that misses a sensitive region does not protect it. Choose between a mask and stylesheet based on which approach lets you reliably cover the relevant content while preserving what the screenshot needs to show.
Limit the screenshot to what you need
Use the narrowest capture scope that serves your purpose. A locator screenshot can capture a single component; clip can capture a defined region; the default viewport screenshot avoids capturing the rest of the scrollable page. Playwright’s fullPage option captures the full scrollable page, so leave it off unless that extra content is genuinely required.

For example, a clip can restrict a page capture to a region you have already identified:

});Replace the coordinates and dimensions for the intended region. A clip narrows what is captured; it does not redact private information that falls inside that region, so combine it with appropriate masking or hiding where needed.

- Open the actual output image at normal size and check every visible edge, not just the center of the page.
- Check any content exposed by scrolling, expanding a section, or other page interaction that your capture includes.
- Confirm that each intended sensitive region is covered or absent and that the remaining image still serves its purpose.
- If anything private remains visible, do not share the image. Correct the selectors or capture scope and create and inspect a new image.
A mask only covers matched bounding boxes. The screenshot output—not the code alone—is what you need to verify before sharing.

- A sensitive value still appears: the selector may not match the element, or another sensitive region was missed. Inspect the page structure in an authorized test context, revise the selectors, and review a fresh output image.
- The mask covers the wrong area: check which element the locator resolves to and whether its bounding box matches the visible value. Refine the locator before capturing again.
- The stylesheet has no visible effect: confirm that the selector matches the content on the page and that the capture-time style is included in the screenshot options.
- The screenshot contains more page content than needed: use a locator screenshot or a suitable
clip, and keepfullPageoff unless the full scrollable page is required. - Useful content disappears along with private content: narrow the selector or mask to the relevant region, then verify both the redaction and the remaining content in the saved image.
