Use your browser’s webpage capture tool—not the laptop’s ordinary screen snip—to save everything from the top of a page to its bottom. Microsoft Edge and Firefox offer full-page commands in their screenshot menus; Chrome places the equivalent command in DevTools. The exact steps are below.
What a full-page screenshot captures
A full-page screenshot stitches the webpage beyond the current viewport into one image. It can include sections that are several scrolls below the browser window. A normal full-screen, window, or rectangular snip captures only what is currently displayed. Microsoft describes Edge’s feature as capturing an entire webpage, including content beyond the screen (Microsoft Edge Screenshot).
Use a browser webpage capture when you need a page from top to bottom. Use the operating system’s screenshot utility when you need only the visible desktop, browser window, or a selected region.
Choose the method for your browser
| Browser | Full-page command | Where the result goes |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Edge | Screenshot menu, then Capture full page | Review the overlay, then copy or save |
| Firefox | Take Screenshot, then Save full page | Save or copy the image |
| Google Chrome | DevTools device toolbar, More options, then Capture a full size screenshot | Chrome captures the full page as an image |
| Windows Snipping Tool or another OS utility | Full screen, window, or region capture | Screen area only; not necessarily the entire webpage |
Menu names and availability can change with browser versions. Edge specifically notes that availability and functionality may vary by device type, market, and browser version.

Microsoft Edge: capture the entire webpage
- Open the webpage in Edge and wait for the content you want to preserve to appear.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also right-click an empty area of the page and choose Screenshot, or open Screenshot from Edge’s Settings menu.
- Choose Capture full page, not a visible-area or selection option.
- Review the resulting capture in the overlay.
- Choose the control to copy it or save it to your laptop.
These steps follow Microsoft’s documented Edge workflow; the command is intended to include content below the screen (Microsoft’s Edge Screenshot documentation).
Firefox: save a full page or only the visible area
- Open the page in Firefox.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. On Windows or Linux, you can instead press Ctrl+Shift+S; on macOS, press Command+Shift+S.
- Select Save full page to capture from the top through the page’s full length.
- Save the image or copy it using the controls shown by Firefox.
If you only need what is currently visible, choose Save visible instead. Mozilla documents both choices in its current Firefox help (Take screenshots in Firefox, updated June 15, 2026).
Chrome: use DevTools device mode
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open Chrome DevTools from the browser’s developer-tools command or menu.
- Turn on the device toolbar in DevTools.
- Open the device toolbar’s More options menu.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot.
Chrome’s documented route captures the whole page, including content outside the viewport. It is a DevTools workflow rather than a command in Chrome’s ordinary page context menu (Chrome DevTools device mode).
Why the laptop’s normal screenshot shortcut is different
Windows Snipping Tool can capture the full screen, a window, or a selected rectangle. Those modes describe the display, not the webpage’s scroll length. Microsoft also documents video capture separately. If you use a normal screen shortcut and see only the current browser window, that is expected; switch to Edge’s Capture full page, Firefox’s Save full page, or Chrome’s Capture a full size screenshot instead (Microsoft Snipping Tool help).

Prepare the page before capturing
- Scroll through the page once if important sections load only after you reach them. This can help you notice missing images or content before saving the final capture, although browser documentation does not guarantee identical behavior for every lazy-loaded page.
- Close menus, tooltips, cookie notices, newsletter popups, and chat panels that you do not want in the image.
- Stop videos or animations when a stable frame matters. Moving media can appear at different moments in different parts of a long capture.
- For a page with a sign-in wall, verify that the browser is already authenticated and that the intended content is visible before starting.
- Check the page at the width you want. A narrow window can trigger a mobile layout, while a wide window can change line wrapping and the total image height.
Review the result and choose an output
Check the top and bottom
Open the saved image at a readable zoom and verify that the header is present, the final section is not clipped, and images or charts did not disappear between sections.
Use copy when you need to paste immediately
Edge and Firefox expose copy controls in their screenshot interfaces. Copying is useful for a document, issue tracker, or message; saving is safer when you need an archival file.
Expect a tall image
A long page can produce a very tall bitmap. Image viewers may scale it to fit the window, so zoom in or crop a focused section for presentations. The source material does not establish a universal maximum height or a guarantee for every unusually long page.
Limitations on dynamic and complex pages
Full-page capture is not the same as taking repeated manual screenshots while scrolling. Browsers render the page through their own capture workflow, and dynamic pages can change during that process. Lazy-loaded images, nested scroll containers, animated content, ads, and pages that continuously append items may not behave identically in every browser. The official instructions cited here do not promise a universally reliable result for those cases.

If the page contains a separate panel with its own scrollbar, the browser may capture the page around that panel rather than every item hidden inside the panel. When the panel itself is the target, try selecting it or use a tool designed for element capture.
Troubleshooting
Only the visible screen was saved
You selected a screen, window, region, visible-page, or similarly named command. Restart the browser workflow and choose the explicit full-page wording: Capture full page in Edge, Save full page in Firefox, or Capture a full size screenshot in Chrome.
The full-page command is missing
Confirm which browser is actually open and look in its current Screenshot or DevTools interface. Edge says feature availability can vary by device type, market, and browser version. Updating the browser may change the menu, but the exact labels can still differ by release.
The bottom of the page is blank or cut off
Reload the page, allow its content to finish loading, and try again. If the site uses a nested scrolling region, place focus on the page and determine whether the content you need is inside that region. A browser capture cannot be assumed to reproduce every scroll container perfectly.

Images are missing
Check whether the images load only when scrolled into view, whether an ad or tracker blocker removed them, or whether the page was captured before network activity finished. Scroll through the page once, wait for visible images, and recapture.
The image contains a popup or chat widget
Dismiss the element before capture. If it reappears, use the site’s preferences or a capture service that can hide selectors and remove common overlays before rendering.
The page changes while it is being captured
Pause video, stop auto-rotating carousels where possible, and wait for a stable layout. For frequently changing dashboards, save the timestamp with the image so readers know when it was taken.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It is useful when you want a repeatable request instead of opening a browser: it accepts cookie and consent banners, removes more than 60 known consent platforms plus newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, and bills only clean shots. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
The API supports full-page captures with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element captures, dark mode, 12 device presets plus custom viewports, retina scale, PDF output with paper size, margins, landscape mode and page ranges, HTML/CSS-to-image, custom CSS and JavaScript, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, blocking ads, trackers, requests or resource types, custom headers, cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable TTL caching, signed links for public <img> tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work to ease migration.

One-call examples
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. The basic cURL request is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Replace https://stripe.com with the page you need and keep your access key private. The response can be PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF depending on your request.
