To capture an entire webpage—not just the part currently visible—use your browser’s full-page command. In Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+S and choose Capture full page. In Firefox, open Take Screenshot and select Save full page. In Chrome, open DevTools, enable Device mode, open the device-toolbar menu and choose Capture a full size screenshot. A normal Windows, macOS or Linux screen grab captures only the visible screen or a selected region.
The exact labels can vary with browser version and device. Edge specifically notes that Screenshot availability and behavior can differ by device type, market and browser version.
What “full page” means
A full-page screenshot stitches or renders content below the viewport into one image. It is different from a desktop screenshot, which records only what is visible on your monitor. Use a desktop capture when you need a window, application or selected rectangle; use a browser’s webpage capture when you need an article, landing page, receipt or other page that continues below the fold.
Microsoft Edge: the quickest built-in method
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S (on macOS, use the Screenshot command exposed by your current Edge build if the shortcut differs).
- Choose Capture full page.
- Use the resulting overlay to copy the image or save it to your computer.
Edge describes this feature as capturing an entire webpage, including material that extends beyond the screen. The current interface may differ by release, device or market; if the shortcut does nothing, open Edge’s menu and search for Screenshot, then select the full-page option. Microsoft’s feature description is available at Microsoft Edge Screenshot.

When Edge is the best choice
- You want the fewest steps and do not need developer tools.
- You are already reviewing the page in Edge and need a quick image to share or archive.
- You need to copy the result rather than immediately download a file.
Firefox: Save full page
- Load the target webpage in Firefox.
- Open the page-actions menu (the three-dot menu in the address bar) and choose Take Screenshot. You can also right-click the page and choose the screenshot command where available.
- In the screenshot interface, select Save full page.
- Preview the capture, then save it to your chosen location.
Firefox’s built-in tool is intended for general users and does not require DevTools. Mozilla’s instructions are in Take screenshots in Firefox. Firefox also documents a Developer Tools workflow in Taking screenshots if you need developer-oriented controls.
If you cannot find Take Screenshot
- Make sure Firefox is updated and the page is not being displayed in a restricted internal view.
- Open the browser’s customization or page-actions menus and search for Screenshot.
- As a fallback, use Firefox Developer Tools’ screenshot command and choose the full-page option.
Chrome: capture a full-size screenshot with DevTools
Chrome puts the full-page command inside DevTools rather than the ordinary page menu.
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Open DevTools with F12, Ctrl+Shift+I (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Option+I (macOS).
- Activate Device mode by selecting the phone/tablet icon in the DevTools toolbar, or pressing Ctrl+Shift+M (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+M (macOS).
- Open the device toolbar’s More options menu (the three-dot button).
- Select Capture a full size screenshot.
Chrome captures the complete page, including content outside the viewport. Google’s device-mode documentation explains the route at Simulate mobile devices with device mode; additional DevTools screenshot methods are listed at 4 ways to capture screenshots with DevTools.
Why Chrome uses Device mode
Device mode gives Chrome a defined viewport and device scale before rendering the image. That is useful when you need a repeatable mobile or desktop layout, but it adds more clicks than Edge or Firefox. Select the desired device or enter a custom width before capturing if the responsive layout matters.

Prepare the page before capturing
A full-page command captures the page as the browser can render it at that moment. For a more useful result:
- Wait for the page to finish loading, including images and fonts.
- Scroll through interactive or lazy-loaded areas first if important content appears only after scrolling.
- Dismiss privacy banners, login prompts and chat bubbles that cover content, provided you are authorized to do so.
- Choose a sensible viewport width. A narrow width may trigger a mobile layout; a wide width may create very long lines.
- Close unrelated tabs or windows if the image will contain sensitive information.
Limits: dynamic pages, nested scrolling and long feeds
Official browser documentation establishes the commands above, not a guarantee that every page structure will reproduce perfectly. Pages with infinite scrolling, nested scroll panels, sticky elements, canvas animations or content loaded only after user interaction can produce incomplete or repeated sections.
Infinite feeds
An infinite feed has no fixed bottom. A “full page” command may capture only the items loaded so far. Scroll manually until the required range is present, then capture in sections if one image is not reliable.
Nested scroll panels
If the article is inside a scrollable panel rather than the document itself, the browser may capture the panel’s visible area instead of its entire internal content. Use the panel’s own export function where available, or take several overlapping captures.

Sticky headers and animation
Fixed navigation can appear repeatedly in a stitched image, while animations may be captured mid-frame. Pause media, wait for transitions to end and hide nonessential overlays before retrying.

Quality, file size and privacy checks
Image dimensions
Full-page images can be extremely tall. A long PNG preserves sharp text but may be large; JPEG is smaller but introduces compression artifacts. If the browser saves only one format, convert a copy rather than overwriting the original.
Readability
For documentation or bug reports, capture at a width that keeps text legible and annotate a separate copy. If a single image becomes unwieldy, split it into logical sections with overlapping context.
Personal and confidential data
Review the address bar, account names, order numbers, cookies shown in page content and any private messages before sharing. Redact the copy you distribute, not the original evidence you may need for support.

The full-page option is missing
Confirm that you are using a normal webpage tab, update the browser, and reopen the relevant menu. In Chrome, the command appears only after Device mode is active. In Edge and Firefox, menu names can change between releases; search the browser’s commands for Screenshot or Take Screenshot.

The capture stops at the visible area
You likely used an operating-system shortcut or a regular viewport screenshot. Repeat the browser-specific full-page procedure above. In Chrome, choose Capture a full size screenshot, not the ordinary camera button.
Images or text are missing
Wait for loading to finish, disable aggressive content-blocking extensions for the page, and retry. Scroll through lazy-loaded sections first. If the page still depends on interaction, capture the relevant sections separately.
The page is blank or the capture fails
Reload, check your connection and try a private window with extensions disabled. A page protected by a login, bot check or script restriction may not render to the browser capture tool. Do not attempt to bypass access controls; use an authorized export or ask the site owner for a copy.
The file is too large to share
Save the original, then resize or convert a copy. For a very long page, export several sections or use a PDF workflow if the recipient needs selectable text rather than one tall bitmap.

ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API when you need repeatable captures from code or an automated workflow. Before capture it accepts the cookie/consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. It also has an MCP server for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients, with take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools.
Use the API documentation at screenshotneo.com/docs/ for authentication and options. The following calls are runnable; replace the URL and key.

Options for production captures
ScreenshotNeo supports full-page captures with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element captures, dark mode, 12 device presets or any viewport, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/orientation/page ranges, HTML/CSS-to-image, custom JavaScript and CSS, pre-capture clicks, hidden selectors, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, ad/tracker/request/resource blocking, custom headers/cookies/user agent/Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification. Parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration.

Which route should you use?
For one page on your own screen, use the built-in command in the browser you already have: Edge is the shortest path, Firefox avoids DevTools, and Chrome’s Device mode is useful when viewport control matters. For recurring, scripted or multi-URL work—or when consent banners and overlays must be removed consistently—use the ScreenshotNeo request instead of repeating manual browser setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take a full-page screenshot without installing an extension?
Yes. Edge, Firefox and Chrome each provide a built-in webpage capture workflow described above; no additional extension is required.
Does a full-page screenshot include content below the fold?
Yes, when the browser’s full-page command succeeds. It is designed to include document content outside the visible viewport, subject to the page-structure limits described in the article.
Can I capture a full webpage as a PDF instead of an image?
Chrome, Firefox or Edge print dialogs can create PDFs, but their pagination and styling are separate from full-page image capture. ScreenshotNeo’s API includes PDF capture with paper size, margins, orientation and page-range controls.
