For a one-off capture, use your browser’s full-page screenshot feature: in Chrome DevTools, choose Capture a full size screenshot; in Firefox, use its full-page screenshot control or the Web Console command screenshot <filename.png> --fullpage. For repeatable captures, Playwright supports fullPage: true. These methods capture the page as rendered; they do not promise to retain SVGs as editable vector artwork.
Choose a capture method
- Chrome DevTools: A graphical option for a one-off screenshot of the whole page.
- Firefox: A built-in full-page capture control, or a Web Console command.
- Playwright: A scriptable option when you need to repeat captures or integrate them into an automated workflow.
In each case, a full-page screenshot includes content beyond the visible viewport. A regular viewport screenshot captures only what is currently visible.

Capture a full page in Chrome
- Open the website in Chrome and open DevTools.
- Turn on Device Mode using the device toolbar button.
- Open the Device Mode More options menu.
- Select Capture a full size screenshot. Do not choose Capture screenshot, which captures only the viewport.
- Open the saved image and inspect the top, middle and bottom of the page, including the SVG details you care about.
Google’s Chrome DevTools documentation describes the full-size command as capturing the whole page, including content outside the visible area. Device Mode can set viewport dimensions, but it does not reproduce every aspect of an actual mobile device. If hardware-specific rendering or interactions matter, check the page on a real device, as Google recommends in its Device Mode guidance.

Use the DevTools screenshot control
Firefox provides a full-page screenshot control. If the screenshot button is not available, open DevTools Settings, find Available Toolbox Buttons, and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. Then use that control to capture the page. See Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot documentation for the full-page control and setting.

Use the Web Console
Open the Web Console and run the documented command, replacing the filename if needed:
screenshot screenshot.png --fullpage
The --fullpage option captures the whole page rather than just the visible browser area. Mozilla documents the command in its Web Console tips.

Automate captures with Playwright
Use Playwright when you need to repeat the capture from a script. After navigating a Playwright page to the target URL, call its screenshot API with fullPage: true:

A screenshot captures the browser’s rendered appearance, not the original page assets as editable source files. The Chrome, Firefox and Playwright documentation describes page screenshots but does not guarantee that a PNG or JPEG will preserve SVG markup or editable vector paths. Treat the result as a raster image unless you separately retain the original SVG asset.

For a crisp result, select capture dimensions and pixel density appropriate to the image’s intended display size, then inspect the saved output at that size and at the zoom level where fine detail matters. Confirm that the SVG has loaded before capturing. These are practical checks; the browser documentation does not guarantee a particular level of sharpness.
An SVG can render differently depending on how it is embedded, its CSS, loading behavior and surrounding layout. If a graphic is missing or clipped, compare a viewport capture with the full-page result and investigate the page’s resource loading and layout before concluding that the capture feature is at fault.

Troubleshoot a bad full-page capture
- You captured only the visible screen: In Chrome, choose Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot. In Firefox, use the entire-page control or the
--fullpagecommand. In Playwright, setfullPage: true. - An SVG is absent: Check whether it has loaded on the page, then compare a viewport capture with the full-page output. Investigate the page’s resource loading and layout.
- An SVG looks soft or its fine detail is hard to read: Check the saved image at its intended display size and zoom level. Choose capture dimensions and pixel density appropriate to that use.
- Device Mode does not match a phone: It simulates dimensions but not every aspect of a physical device. Verify hardware-specific behavior on a real device.
