Take a full-page screenshot manually in Firefox
- Open the webpage in Firefox.
- Open the Web Console in DevTools.
- Enter
:screenshot --fullpageand run the command. Firefox saves an image that includes page content outside the current window bounds. [Mozilla documentation]
Choose a filename or capture an element
Use the documented --filename option to specify a PNG filename. Check the filename before capturing again: Mozilla warns that saving to an existing filename overwrites it. The Web Console helper also documents --selector for a selected element and --dpr to set the device pixel ratio. Disable supported web animations for a steadier still
If CSS-based motion is making the captured state unpredictable and you prefer a static result, set animations: 'disabled':

A PNG, JPEG, or WebP screenshot records one visual state; it does not preserve motion. Playwright’s documented animation option does not establish that a particular frame will be selected from an animated GIF, video, canvas animation, or every site-specific animation mechanism.

- If the exact moment matters, pause or seek the media with the page’s own controls where available before capturing. This is practical guidance, not a behavior guaranteed by the screenshot options.
- For CSS motion, use
animations: 'disabled'when a settled state is preferable to preserving the observed animation. - Inspect the resulting file for the desired frame and for content that might load below the fold, including lazy-loaded areas and sticky or fixed elements. The cited documentation does not establish how every page handles those cases.
Capture one element instead of the whole page
If the page contains unrelated content and you only need a component, Playwright supports a locator screenshot; Firefox’s Web Console helper documents --selector. Troubleshoot unexpected captures
- The image stops at the viewport: Check that the Firefox command includes
--fullpageor that the Playwright call includesfullPage: true. - The animation is at an unwanted state: For CSS animations, transitions, or Web Animations, try Playwright’s
animations: 'disabled'. For video or GIF content, pause or seek it using the page’s own controls and inspect the result. - Some lower-page content is missing: Verify the saved image, especially where a site loads content lazily or changes layout while scrolling. The documented full-page options do not guarantee how every page renders such content.
- A previous file disappeared: Firefox warns that capture to an existing filename overwrites it. Choose a new filename using
--filename. - The browser screenshot command is unavailable: Confirm you are using the Firefox DevTools Web Console helper. The documented command is not necessarily part of the standard screenshot menu.
