You can sync both bookmarks and saved passwords without signing in to Google. The simplest all-in-one route is Firefox Sync, which uses a Mozilla account and keeps those data types available in Firefox on your signed-in devices. If you want to use different browsers, keep bookmarks in a browser or bookmark service and put passwords in a separate password manager such as Bitwarden. Microsoft Edge offers a similar bundled option through its own account sign-in.
“Without Google” does not mean “without any account.” The documented automatic options require a provider account. If you require no cloud or provider account at all, the practical alternative is manual export and import rather than continuous synchronization.

Choose the right meaning of “without a Google account”

- Use no Google account: You are happy to sign in to another provider, such as Mozilla or an Edge account.
- Use no provider account at all: You do not want a cloud account for either data type. The documented services do not establish an automatic, cross-device solution under this constraint; you would need manual transfers or a self-managed system.
Decide which requirement applies before moving data. A service that avoids Google but still requires an account is a valid answer to the first requirement, not the second.

Import and export is a transfer operation, not proof of ongoing synchronization. After an import, later edits do not automatically flow back to the original browser or file.
Option 1: Use Firefox Sync for both data types
Mozilla documents Firefox Sync as a way to make bookmarks and saved passwords available across devices. It is the most direct choice when you are willing to use Firefox on each device and create or use a Mozilla account.
Prepare your source Firefox profile
- Open Firefox on the device that currently has the most complete set of bookmarks and saved passwords.
- Check that you are in the intended browser profile. Separate profiles can contain different bookmarks and logins.
- Remove obvious duplicates or obsolete entries before the first sync. This reduces the chance of choosing the wrong copy later.
- Make a local backup using Firefox’s available bookmark export or profile-backup tools if the data is important. Keep any password export protected and temporary.
Turn on Firefox Sync on a computer
- Open the Firefox application menu and choose Settings or Preferences.
- Open Sync (the label may appear as Sync and save data in some versions).
- Select the sign-in option and create a Mozilla account or use an existing one.
- Complete the account verification steps shown by Firefox.
- In the Sync settings, leave bookmarks and passwords enabled. You can disable other categories if you do not want them synchronized.
- Keep Firefox open until the first synchronization completes, then verify the account status shows the device as connected.
Connect another computer
- Install Firefox and open its Settings page.
- Choose Sync or Sync and save data, then sign in to the same Mozilla account.
- Confirm that bookmark and password synchronization are enabled for this device.
- Wait for the initial download before editing or deleting entries. The first device may take a little time to populate a large profile.
- Open the bookmarks library and the saved-passwords view to confirm representative items arrived.
Connect a phone or tablet
- Install the Firefox mobile app from the device’s official app store.
- Open the app menu, go to Settings, and select the account or sync section.
- Sign in with the same Mozilla account used on the computer.
- Enable the data categories offered by the app, including bookmarks and saved passwords when those switches are available.
- Test one bookmark and one saved login before relying on the phone for daily use.
When Firefox Sync is the sensible choice
- You want one setup that covers both requested data types.
- You can use Firefox consistently on desktop and mobile.
- You accept that the data is tied to a Mozilla account rather than being account-free.
Firefox Sync is not a way to keep Chrome, Edge, and Firefox profiles simultaneously authoritative. If you regularly edit bookmarks in several browsers, use a deliberately separate bookmark strategy instead of assuming browser profiles will reconcile themselves.

Option 2: Use Edge’s built-in sync
Microsoft Support documents Edge synchronization for favorites and passwords, along with other Edge data, when you are signed in. This avoids a Google account but still depends on an account associated with the Edge profile.
Enable sync in Edge on the first device
- Open Edge and select the three-dot menu.
- Open Settings, then the profile or account area.
- Sign in to Edge with the account you intend to use on every device.
- Open the Sync page and enable synchronization for favorites and passwords.
- Leave the browser running long enough for the account status to update.
Set up additional devices
- Install or open Edge on the second computer or mobile device.
- Open the profile area and sign in with the same account.
- Visit the Sync settings and verify that favorites and passwords are selected.
- Check the Favorites manager and the password settings after the initial sync finishes.
Edge also documents importing favorites and passwords from another browser or from files. Use that workflow when Edge is the destination for a one-time move; do not confuse a completed import with a continuing link to the source browser.
Option 3: Separate passwords from browser bookmarks
A dedicated password manager is useful when you want to change browsers without repeatedly rebuilding your login database. Bitwarden documents vault synchronization across its apps and password imports from common browsers, including Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium-based browsers.

What this arrangement does
- The password manager becomes the authoritative location for login credentials.
- Its apps can provide the same vault on the devices where you sign in.
- You can import existing browser passwords during setup.
What it does not establish
The documented Bitwarden workflows cover vault synchronization and password import. They do not establish Bitwarden as a browser-bookmark synchronization service. Your bookmarks still need Firefox Sync, Edge sync, a separate bookmark service, or manual export and import.

- Choose the browser profile that contains the current, most complete passwords.
- Use the password manager’s documented import path and select the matching browser format. Bitwarden provides import instructions for Chrome, Edge, and other Chromium browsers.
- Review the item count and open several imported records. Check usernames, web addresses, notes, and duplicate entries.
- Sign in to the manager on each additional device and confirm the same vault appears.
- Only after verification should you remove saved passwords from the old browser. Keep the old browser profile available until you are confident every important login works.
Choose a bookmark method separately
If all your devices use Firefox, Firefox Sync can handle bookmarks while the password manager handles credentials. If all use Edge, Edge can sync favorites while the manager stores passwords. For a mixed-browser household, select one bookmark location deliberately and avoid editing several independent bookmark trees unless you are prepared to reconcile changes manually.
How to migrate without losing data
A controlled migration is safer than turning on several sync systems at once. The goal is to identify one authoritative source, import it into the destination, verify it, and then retire the old copy.

1. Inventory the existing data
- List every browser and profile used on each device.
- Identify where the newest bookmarks live. A laptop profile may be newer than a phone profile, even if the phone is used more often.
- Identify where the newest passwords live. Check for logins saved only in a particular browser or device.
- Note duplicate accounts for the same website before importing.
2. Make temporary backups
Export bookmarks from the chosen source if the browser offers that function. For passwords, use the destination manager’s documented import route or the browser’s export function when necessary. Password exports are usually readable files, so treat them as sensitive credentials: do not email them casually, place them in a shared folder, or leave them on a public or borrowed computer.
3. Import into the destination
For Edge, use its documented import workflow for favorites and passwords from another browser or a file. For Bitwarden, use the documented browser-password import workflow. For Firefox Sync, sign in on the source profile first, then connect the other Firefox devices to the same Mozilla account.

4. Verify before deleting anything
- Compare bookmark folders and open several links from each important folder.
- Search for representative passwords by site and confirm the username is correct.
- Test autofill or copy-and-paste on a non-critical login first.
- Check a second device after synchronization, not only the device that performed the import.
- Keep the source profile and any backup until verification is complete.
5. Clean up exposed export files
After confirming the destination, delete temporary password exports from local storage, downloads folders, removable drives, and cloud-sharing locations. Empty the recycle or trash area if the device is shared. This is prudent handling for a file that may contain every account credential.

Any automatic cross-device service adds an account that must remain accessible. Record the recovery method for the Mozilla account, Edge account, or password-manager account you choose. If you lose access to that account, synchronization can stop even though the original browser profile still exists locally.
Use a unique, strong account password and protect the account with the security controls offered by the provider. Do not store the only copy of recovery information inside the same browser profile you are trying to recover. A separate, protected record prevents a device failure from removing both the data and the means to reach it.
Keep the number of authoritative stores small. Editing a password in a browser while also editing a separate manager creates two versions. The reviewed documentation does not establish reliable bidirectional synchronization between browser password stores and an external manager, so decide which system owns credentials and make changes there.

When manual transfer is the better answer
Manual export and import is appropriate when you only need to move data once, when devices cannot share a provider account, or when you deliberately want to keep data offline. It is not equivalent to synchronization: every later bookmark or password change must be transferred again.
For a manual-only setup, maintain a written schedule and a clear source of truth. Export bookmarks and passwords from that source, transfer the files through a protected channel, import them on the destination, verify the result, and securely remove temporary password files. This approach gives you control over accounts but requires discipline and does not provide automatic updates.
A practical decision checklist
- Use Firefox Sync if you want one browser-based solution for bookmarks and passwords and accept a Mozilla account.
- Use Edge sync if Edge is already your browser on every device and you accept signing in to its account.
- Use a password manager plus a separate bookmark method if you switch browsers, want credentials independent of browser choice, or need a dedicated vault.
- Use manual export and import if no provider account is acceptable or the move is a one-time operation.
Whichever route you choose, start with the profile containing the latest data, import rather than overwrite blindly, verify on a second device, and remove sensitive export files after the migration. Those steps prevent the most common losses while keeping Google out of the setup.
