A green LED indicates HyperSpeed Wireless (2.4 GHz), blue indicates Bluetooth, and white means both connections are available but HyperSpeed is currently prioritized.
The quick switching procedure
The Barracuda V2 Pro has two wireless paths: the USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless dongle, which uses the 2.4 GHz band, and Bluetooth. The SmartSwitch button changes which path supplies audio; it does not require you to remove the dongle or open a software control panel.

- Power on the Barracuda V2 Pro.
- Make sure it is connected to an audio source. That source can be the USB wireless connection or a paired Bluetooth device.
- Locate the physical Razer SmartSwitch button on the headset.
- Press the SmartSwitch button twice in quick succession.
- Listen for audio from the other connection and check the LED color to confirm the active mode.
Razer describes the operation this way in the Barracuda Pro Master Guide: “When powered on and connected to any audio source, double press the Razer SmartSwitch button to switch between the USB Type C wireless dongle and Bluetooth audio source or vice versa.”

| LED color | Meaning | What you should do |
|---|---|---|
| Green | HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz mode is active. | Audio is using the USB Type-C wireless dongle. |
| Blue | Bluetooth mode is active. | Audio is using the connected Bluetooth device. |
| White | Both connections are present, with HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz prioritized. | Double-press SmartSwitch if you want Bluetooth instead. |
A white LED is the most common source of confusion. It does not mean that Bluetooth has failed. It means the headset can see both connection types, but the dongle has priority at that moment.
Why plugging in the dongle sends audio back to 2.4 GHz
Razer treats insertion of the USB wireless dongle as an indication that you intend to use the dongle. Consequently, HyperSpeed Wireless takes priority whenever the dongle is connected and available. If Bluetooth was active and you insert the dongle, the headset may move back to 2.4 GHz without asking you to choose a device in Windows, macOS, a phone, or another host.
This is expected behavior rather than a fault. Leave the dongle connected if you need it for another device, then double-press SmartSwitch to return to Bluetooth. If you remove the dongle, the headset no longer has that 2.4 GHz path and can use Bluetooth normally, provided a Bluetooth device is paired and reachable.

Switching from the dongle to Bluetooth
When the Bluetooth device is already paired
With the headset powered on and the dongle connected, perform the double press described above. The headset attempts to reconnect to the last known Bluetooth device. Keep Bluetooth enabled on that phone, tablet, computer, or other audio source and keep the device within normal wireless range. When the Bluetooth link becomes active, the LED changes to blue and audio output must be directed to the headset in the device’s sound settings if the operating system does not switch automatically.
When there is no known Bluetooth device
If the Barracuda V2 Pro cannot find a previously used Bluetooth device, Bluetooth pairing mode activates. Open the Bluetooth settings on the device you want to use, start a scan, and select the headset’s listed name. Complete pairing, then select the headset as the output device. On the next switch, the headset will try that device as its last known Bluetooth source.
If the wrong Bluetooth device reconnects
Bluetooth reconnection follows the last known-device behavior. Turn Bluetooth off temporarily on the device you do not want to use, or move that device out of range, before pressing SmartSwitch. Then leave Bluetooth enabled only on the intended source. After the desired source connects, restore the other device’s Bluetooth setting if needed.

Switching from Bluetooth to the USB wireless dongle
Insert the Barracuda V2 Pro’s USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless dongle into the host device, then power on the headset. Once the dongle is recognized and the wireless link is available, HyperSpeed is prioritized. The LED should show green when only that mode is active, or white when Bluetooth remains connected as well.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe dongle must be available to the host for this mode. A USB-C charging cable is not the same thing as the wireless dongle; charging the headset does not provide the dongle’s 2.4 GHz audio link. On a computer, select the Barracuda’s USB audio output if the operating system continues sending sound to speakers or another headset.
USB wireless versus Bluetooth: which should you use?
Both modes carry audio wirelessly, but they solve different connection problems. The official material identifies the connection mechanisms and switching control; it does not publish independent latency tests, numeric range tests, or reliability benchmarks. The practical differences below therefore describe the intended use of each connection rather than promising a measured performance figure.

For games or other timing-sensitive audio, many users choose the dedicated dongle because it is the connection intended for a USB host. For travel or a phone, Bluetooth is usually more convenient because the source already has Bluetooth and no dongle has to be carried. These are usage choices, not claims of a particular measured delay.
Exact steps for common situations
You are playing on a computer and want to answer a call on a phone
- Pair the phone with the Barracuda V2 Pro before you need to switch.
- Use the dongle for the computer and confirm green, or white if Bluetooth is also connected.
- When the call arrives, double-press SmartSwitch.
- Confirm blue and answer the call on the phone.
- Double-press SmartSwitch again when finished to return to the USB wireless connection.
If the headset returns to the computer immediately, check whether the dongle was unplugged and reinserted. Reconnecting the dongle signals an intention to use HyperSpeed, so press SmartSwitch once more after the dongle is stable.
You are moving from a computer to a phone
- Leave the phone’s Bluetooth enabled and make sure it is the last Bluetooth device used with the headset.
- Power on the headset.
- Double-press SmartSwitch.
- Wait for the blue LED and select the Barracuda V2 Pro as the phone’s audio output.
If the phone was never paired, follow the pairing-mode process instead of expecting an immediate connection.

You need the dongle connected but want Bluetooth audio
- Keep the dongle in the host if you need it available.
- Power on the headset and verify that both links are present.
- Double-press SmartSwitch to override dongle priority.
- Confirm the blue LED and choose the headset in the Bluetooth source’s audio-output list.
Troubleshooting when the switch does not work
The button press does nothing
- Confirm that the headset is powered on; SmartSwitch is not a software command that works while the headset is off.
- Make sure the headset is connected to an audio source. Razer’s procedure specifies that it should be powered on and connected before the double press.
- Press the SmartSwitch button twice deliberately rather than holding it or pressing it only once.
- Check the LED after the second press instead of relying only on the sound you hear.
The LED is white and Bluetooth audio is silent
- White means HyperSpeed is prioritized, not that Bluetooth is unavailable.
- Double-press SmartSwitch and wait for blue.
- On the Bluetooth device, select the headset as the active audio output. A successful Bluetooth connection can exist while the device continues routing sound to its built-in speaker.
- Check that the Bluetooth source is not connected to a different headset or speaker.
The headset goes back to 2.4 GHz after you plug in USB
This follows the dongle-priority rule. Wait for the dongle to be recognized, then double-press SmartSwitch to select Bluetooth again. If you do not need 2.4 GHz, removing the dongle prevents it from being treated as the preferred path.
Bluetooth pairing mode does not produce a connection
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on at the source, then scan again.
- Remove an old Barracuda entry from the source’s saved Bluetooth devices and pair again if the old record is corrupted.
- Make sure another previously used device is not automatically taking the headset’s connection.
- Keep the headset close to the source during pairing and select the headset’s listed name rather than an unrelated audio device.
The dongle is inserted but HyperSpeed is unavailable
- Confirm that you inserted the supplied USB Type-C wireless dongle, not a charging cable.
- Try another compatible USB port on the host and wait for the operating system to detect it.
- Check the host’s audio-output list for the Barracuda USB device.
- After the host recognizes the dongle, power-cycle the headset and try SmartSwitch again.
Model identification and compatibility notes
Razer’s official support record identifies this headset family as RZ04-03780. Use that model identifier when checking a manual, support article, replacement dongle, or compatibility information so you do not confuse the Barracuda V2 Pro with another Barracuda variant.
The switching instructions apply to the headset’s two documented wireless paths: the USB Type-C HyperSpeed dongle and Bluetooth. The USB path depends on the host accepting the dongle as an audio device. The Bluetooth path depends on the source supporting Bluetooth audio and having the headset paired. A host that lacks a suitable USB port may require an appropriate adapter, but adapter compatibility is separate from the headset’s SmartSwitch function and is not established by the official switching instructions.

- It does: toggle the active audio connection between HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth when the headset is powered on and connected.
- It does: initiate use of the last known Bluetooth device, or Bluetooth pairing mode when no known device is found.
- It does not: create a Bluetooth pairing without a Bluetooth-capable source.
- It does not: make a USB charging cable behave like the wireless dongle.
- It does not: guarantee that an operating system will change its selected audio output automatically; you may still need to choose the headset in system sound settings.
A reliable switching routine
For the fewest surprises, pair your phone or secondary Bluetooth source before leaving home, keep the source you want to use active, and use the LED as the final confirmation. When the dongle is connected, expect HyperSpeed to win until you double-press SmartSwitch. When no known Bluetooth device is available, be prepared to complete pairing before audio can move to Bluetooth. This routine follows the Barracuda V2 Pro’s documented priority and reconnection behavior without relying on an unreported latency or range figure.
