One documented option is Church Presenter: enable OBS WebSocket, connect Church Presenter to OBS, and map each live content type—such as slides or video—to the scene you want OBS to show. Simply adding a video as an OBS Media Source will play it, but will not make presentation software switch scenes.
What you need for automatic scene switching
Automatic switching needs a control path between the presentation application and OBS. The application must be able to tell OBS when the live content changes, and OBS must have a corresponding scene ready. Church Presenter documents this workflow through OBS WebSocket and mappings from content types to OBS scenes. Its guide is a product setup reference, not a guarantee that every network or service configuration will behave identically.

- A computer running OBS and the presentation software.
- OBS WebSocket enabled, with its connection details available.
- OBS scenes prepared for the content you plan to show, such as sermon slides and video playback.
- For a two-computer setup, both machines connected to the same local network.
Set up Church Presenter to switch OBS scenes
- Prepare your OBS scenes. Create and name the scenes you want to use—for example, “Slides” and “Sermon Video.” Add the appropriate sources to each scene. Scene names in the mapping must match the scenes you intend to activate.
- Enable OBS WebSocket. In OBS, open Tools > WebSocket Server Settings, enable the WebSocket server, and note the server port and password shown in your setup. Church Presenter’s July 12, 2026 guide describes port
4455as the default in its documented setup; use the actual port displayed by your OBS configuration rather than assuming it is unchanged. - Enter the OBS connection details in Church Presenter. Open its OBS settings and provide the host, port, and password. If OBS and Church Presenter run on the same computer, the guide says to use
localhost. If they run on separate computers, enter the OBS computer’s local IP address; both devices need to be on the same local network. - Map content types to scenes. Assign each relevant live content type to its OBS scene. For example, map presentation slides to the “Slides” scene and video to the “Sermon Video” scene. The documented integration leaves OBS on its currently active scene when a content type has no mapping.
- Check the connection and run through the service sequence. Confirm the connection indicator shows a working connection, review the scene names and mappings, then test the transitions in the order they will occur during the service. Correct any wrong or missing mappings before you start the public stream.
Church Presenter describes this per-content-type scene-switching capability on its feature page and in its OBS connection guide. The guide documents its own setup; it does not establish a broad comparison of presentation apps, operating-system support, or current pricing.

Scene switching and video playback are related but distinct. In OBS, add a local video file to the scene that should show it by adding a Media Source. OBS documents options such as looping playback, restarting playback when the source becomes active, and hiding the source when playback ends. Set these according to how the clip should behave in your service. These playback options do not themselves tell OBS when to change scenes; the presentation-to-OBS integration handles that control.

OBS’s official Media Sources documentation covers playback behavior. A capture card is only relevant if you need to bring an external HDMI video signal into OBS. It is an OBS source type, not a requirement for software-driven scene switching; see the OBS Sources Guide.
What other presentation software evidence establishes
Proclaim’s official support material explains how to stream slides, a pastor video, or both through OBS. That page does not establish that Proclaim automatically changes OBS scenes in response to sermon content, so do not assume it offers the same content-driven switching workflow without checking its current documentation. Troubleshoot scene switching
- OBS does not connect: Recheck the host, port, and password in both applications. On one computer, use
localhostas described by Church Presenter. For separate computers, confirm you used the OBS machine’s local IP and that both devices are on the same local network. - The wrong scene appears: Review the mapping for the live content type and confirm the destination scene name is the one you intended.
- The scene does not change for a content type: Check that the type has a mapping. In the documented Church Presenter integration, an unmapped type leaves OBS on its current scene.
- The correct scene appears but the video does not play as expected: Check the Media Source settings for looping, restarting when active, and hiding at the end. Scene control and playback behavior are configured separately.
- A separate computer cannot reach OBS: Verify both computers are on the same local network and that Church Presenter is using the OBS computer’s local IP address. The cited guide does not guarantee that every local network configuration will permit a connection.
Check YouTube rights and stream readiness
Before using sermon recordings, music, or other video in a public stream, make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the material. Scene automation does not grant streaming rights or determine whether content complies with YouTube’s rules. Test the full sequence—including the video source and transitions—before the service begins.
