Open the account you used for past rides, verify that you can still sign in and receive email, then download or export the trips you may need for reimbursement, tax records, warranty claims or your own files. A new ride-hailing app should not be treated as a place where the old provider’s history will appear: the official instructions reviewed here describe provider-specific accounts and retrieval tools, not a general cross-provider import.
Lyft offers a multi-ride Ride Report export from Ride History. Uber’s rider help describes opening an individual trip from the app or website, viewing or resending its receipt, and downloading a PDF after viewing it. The exact menu names can vary by country and app version, so preserve the records while the old account and its email address are still available.

What happens to receipts when you change apps?
A ride receipt is tied to the provider account and transaction that created it. Your new service can create receipts for new trips, but there is no documented workflow in the cited Lyft or Uber help pages for importing historical rides from one provider into another provider’s account. That means the old account remains the practical source for rides taken there. Treat “switching apps” as a records-preservation task, not a data-migration task.

Do not delete the old account, abandon its email address or rely on a screenshot alone until you have collected the records you need. Keep the original emails when possible, because they preserve delivery context in addition to the downloaded document. The providers do not state a universal retention period for every account or country, so retaining access is safer than assuming an old history will remain available indefinitely.

Do this before you install or rely on the new service
- Confirm the old sign-in works. Open the former provider’s app or website and complete any required verification. If you use a phone number, make sure you can receive its code; if you use email, confirm that the mailbox is still active.
- Check the account email. Lyft says receipt messages go to the address in its app settings. Correct and verify that address before exporting, then search the inbox and spam or junk folders for existing receipts.
- List the trips you actually need. Include rides needed for an employer expense report, tax documentation, travel records, reimbursements or a personal archive. This prevents you from discovering a missing receipt after access to the old account becomes difficult.
- Use the provider’s history tool. Retrieve individual receipts and use a batch export where the provider documents one. Save the resulting email, report and PDF to storage you control.
- Check file readability. Open each PDF or report and verify the date, route or trip identifier, fare and payment details are visible. A download that exists but cannot be opened is not a useful archive.
- Confirm business requirements. Ask your employer or accountant whether an ordinary receipt is sufficient or whether a formal invoice, business profile record or additional fields are required. Rules differ by organization and jurisdiction.
- Only then move to the new app. Keep the old credentials and email access for as long as historical trips may be requested.
How to export Lyft receipts in a batch
Lyft’s help page states: “You can export your ride receipts in the ‘Ride history’ tab of your Lyft app.” The documented process creates a Ride Report by email for rides you select. Use it before switching if you have many trips to preserve.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the Lyft app and go to Ride History.
- Choose Export, as described in Lyft’s US instructions.
- Select the rides you want included. Select every trip needed for your records rather than assuming a later export will be available.
- Submit the request and wait for the Ride Report to arrive at the email address associated with the account.
- Save the report and preserve the original delivery email. Open any attached or linked receipt files to confirm that they contain the expected trips.
The procedure is documented in Lyft’s US help article, In-app ride history tool. Labels can change with app updates, but the relevant feature is the export action inside Ride History.
On Android
- Open Lyft and enter Ride History.
- Use the download icon identified in Lyft’s US help instructions.
- Select the rides to include in the report.
- Submit the export and watch the account email for the Ride Report.
- Download the report, open it, and store it outside the app.
Lyft’s page describes the download icon for Android and Export for iOS. If your version shows different wording, remain in Ride History and look for the equivalent export or download control rather than assuming the feature has been removed.

Retrieve one Lyft ride
For a single trip, open Ride History and select the ride. Lyft documents individual ride history and email receipts, so this route is useful when you need one specific journey rather than a full report. Save the receipt as soon as it is displayed or delivered. Lyft says a receipt is emailed after payment or within 24 hours after a ride, so a recent trip may not arrive immediately.

Make sure Lyft can deliver the report
Lyft’s guidance on emails and receipts explains that receipt messages use the address in the app’s settings. Check that address before requesting an export, update it if necessary, and complete any verification step. If a message is missing, search for the provider name, check spam or junk folders and verify that the mailbox has space. The Canada help page contains the email and receipt guidance at Lyft emails and receipts.
How to retrieve Uber receipts
Uber’s rider help describes account-based retrieval rather than a general one-click archive export. The source is a UK help page, so treat the labels as region- and version-sensitive. The core sequence is to open your trip list, select a journey, view its receipt and then resend or download it.
From the Uber app
- Open the app’s Your Trips list, or the equivalent trip-history area shown in your region.
- Select the ride whose receipt you need.
- Open the receipt view. Use the option to resend it if you need a fresh message at the account email.
- After the receipt is displayed, use the available download or print control. If your device offers “Print,” choose the system PDF option to create a file rather than sending it to a physical printer.
- Open the saved PDF and check that the ride and fare information are present.
From a browser
- Sign in at riders.uber.com/trips or use the trip-history link provided by Uber for your region.
- Select the relevant trip.
- View the receipt, then choose the option to resend, print or download it as a PDF.
- Store the PDF and retain the email copy if you resend it.
Uber’s official instructions for this flow are at How to get a trip overview. Because that page is UK-specific, a rider elsewhere may see different regional wording or available controls. Do not infer from this page that Uber provides a universal batch export for every account.
Save records in a way you can use later
Keep at least one copy outside the ride-hailing app. A practical folder structure is one folder per calendar year, with filenames such as 2026-03-14-provider-trip-receipt.pdf. Include the provider and date in the filename so an expense reviewer can identify it without opening every file. If a report contains multiple rides, keep the original report intact and, if useful, save individual PDFs separately.

- Preserve the source email. Keep the message that delivered the receipt or Ride Report, including its date and sender details.
- Use two controlled locations. A computer folder plus a backed-up cloud folder reduces the chance that a device failure removes the only copy.
- Do not edit the original. If you redact information for a particular recipient, create a copy and retain the unmodified file for your records.
- Record missing items. Keep a simple list of trips still needing retrieval, including date and approximate route, so you can search the old history systematically.
These are record-keeping practices, not guarantees from either provider. The essential point is to make a readable copy while you still control the account and its email channel.
Receipts, business records and invoices are not interchangeable
An ordinary ride receipt may show the fare and payment information but may not satisfy a company’s expense policy or a local tax rule. Ask what your organization requires before you switch.
Business profiles and expense forwarding
Lyft documents receipt forwarding from eligible business profiles to expense systems, subject to organizational availability. Its business-profile help explains the feature and names systems such as SAP Concur and Expensify. Availability depends on the organization and account configuration; do not assume a personal profile can use the same workflow. The relevant help page is Business profiles and Lyft Business.

If your employer receives forwarded receipts automatically, still save a copy yourself before changing providers. Forwarding is a workflow convenience, not evidence that the old provider’s history has been copied into the new app.

Formal invoices and jurisdictional rules
Uber’s Japan-specific qualified-invoice help distinguishes an invoice from an ordinary receipt and describes invoice downloads for that jurisdiction. The requirements and download options may differ elsewhere. Read the rules that apply to the country where the ride occurred and ask the payer what document is acceptable. Do not relabel a receipt as an invoice merely because both show a total. If a tax authority or employer requires a qualified invoice, obtain that document through the provider’s regional process before closing or abandoning the old account.

Fix common receipt problems before switching
The receipt email never arrived
- Confirm the email address shown in the old account’s settings.
- Search all folders for the provider name, the ride date and terms such as “receipt” or “Ride Report.”
- Check whether the trip has finished processing. Lyft says a receipt may arrive after payment or within 24 hours after a ride.
- Open the trip in Ride History or Your Trips and use the provider’s resend or export control.
- Save the newly delivered message and verify that its attachment or link works.
You can sign in but an old trip is missing
Check that you are using the same account identity as when the ride occurred. A different email, phone number, login method or regional account can show a different history. Search by approximate date and review adjacent trips. If the provider’s own history does not show the ride, use its support channel while you can still authenticate; do not assume the new app can reconstruct it.
The PDF will not download or open
Try the browser route if the app viewer fails, or use the app if the website does not display the receipt. If the receipt opens in a print dialog, choose a PDF destination. Confirm that the saved file has a nonzero size and opens in a standard PDF viewer. Keep the original email so you can retry the download later without losing the delivery record.
Your employer rejects the document
Ask which field or document type is missing. The issue may be that a receipt is being submitted where a formal invoice is required, that the ride was not attached to a business profile, or that the organization needs a specific expense-system workflow. Retrieve the appropriate provider document before giving up access to the old account.
You are using an expense integration
Check what the integration is allowed to retrieve. Uber’s rider API documentation says its receipt endpoint provides receipts only for ride requests that originated in the integrating app. That is a specific developer limitation, not a statement about every expense product. If a trip is absent, retrieve it directly from the provider’s app or website instead of assuming the integration contains the complete history. See Uber rider API scopes.
A safe switching sequence
- Inventory. Write down the date range and purpose of every old trip you may need.
- Authenticate. Confirm the old app or website accepts your credentials and that you can access its account email.
- Export or retrieve. Use Lyft’s Ride History export for selected rides, or retrieve Uber trips individually through the app or website as documented for your region.
- Validate. Open every saved report or PDF and check that it corresponds to the intended ride.
- Archive. Store files and original emails in locations you control, with clear filenames and a backup.
- Handle work documentation. Obtain any business-profile receipt forwarding or jurisdiction-specific invoice required by your employer or tax process.
- Switch. Create or use the new ride-hailing account only after the old records are safe.
- Retain access. Keep the old sign-in and email available for as long as a historical trip could be questioned or reimbursed.
What you should expect after the switch
The new app will generate receipts for rides booked through it. Your previous rides should remain associated with the provider that handled them, subject to that provider’s account systems and applicable regional rules. Do not assume that deleting the old app deletes the account, and do not assume that installing the new app transfers anything; app installation and account records are separate decisions.
If you later need an old receipt, start with your archived email or PDF, then sign in to the original provider and use its history tools. For a trip that was booked through an integration, check the integration’s documented scope and fall back to the original provider when necessary.
