To get ordinary typing back on a Motorola phone, first select Gboard as the active keyboard; if the keyboard appears but you do not want dictation, turn off Gboard’s Voice typing setting. These are separate controls: changing the keyboard restores the typing interface, while disabling Voice typing stops keyboard dictation.
Choose the right fix for what you see

Switch the active keyboard to Gboard
- Open an app with a text field and tap the field to bring up the keyboard.
- If another keyboard is active, touch and hold the Globe key, then select Gboard. The Globe key is on the keyboard; its location can vary by layout.

Turn off voice typing in Gboard
- With Gboard active, open its settings. Depending on the layout, tap the settings control or open the keyboard toolbar and choose Settings.
- Tap Voice typing.
- Turn off the Voice typing setting.
The setting controls dictation within Gboard; it does not remove Gboard or prevent you from typing with its keys. Labels and the route into settings may vary by Gboard version.

If Gboard is missing from the keyboard list
Open Android Settings and find the on-screen keyboard list, then enable Gboard. The exact menu path differs across Android versions and manufacturers. On a Motorola phone, if the labels do not match, search Settings for keyboard or Gboard and open the result for managing on-screen keyboards.

A Motorola G6 community thread published August 26, 2023, describes a route through System, Language & input, On-screen keyboard, Gboard, and Voice typing. It is a historical community example, not a guaranteed current menu path for every Motorola model. Google’s guide gives general recovery steps rather than one Motorola-specific route.
If voice typing is missing or does not work
Check microphone permission
For Gboard dictation, open Settings > Apps > Gboard > Permissions > Microphone and allow microphone access while using the app. Permission is needed for voice input; it is not a requirement to use the keyboard for ordinary typing. Menu wording can differ by Android version.

Try cache clearing before resetting app data
Google suggests clearing Gboard’s cache when troubleshooting voice input. Clearing Gboard’s app data is a more disruptive step because it resets Gboard settings, so try it only if simpler troubleshooting has not helped. See Google’s Gboard troubleshooting steps.

Google says Gboard voice typing does not support every language. Its advanced voice typing features are identified as available on Pixel 6 and newer, so they should not be assumed to be available on Motorola phones. Google’s advanced voice typing information

Google states that when Gboard talk-to-text is used, voice is sent to Google for transcription. This describes use of that voice-input feature, not ordinary keyboard typing. Google’s Gboard troubleshooting guide
