Google ended normal Fitbit-account access on May 19, 2026. Its published data-download window began closing when deletion processing started on July 15, 2026. Those dates have passed, so an individual account may no longer qualify. Try the in-app migration prompt; if it is missing, contact Google support rather than assuming your records can still be recovered.

Migration and export are different actions
The account move changes where your Fitbit account is managed. During the move, Google Health shows the Fitbit data and setup available for transfer, and you choose what to move. Google says, “You’ll keep all historical data that you choose to move to your Google Account.” The completed move cannot be undone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAn export creates a separate archive file. It does not move your account, reconnect devices, or make Google Health display the records. Keeping both a migrated account and an archive is the safest approach when the export controls are still offered.

| Action | What it does | Date-range or data selection | Reversible? | Historical records in the destination app |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Move Fitbit account to Google Health | Transfers the account and the Fitbit data you select into the destination Google Account. | Selection is presented in the migration flow; a complete field-by-field inventory is not stated. | No. Google says a completed move cannot be undone. | Google says selected historical data is retained, but it does not promise that every record, setting, family arrangement, or connection appears identically. |
| Full archive export | Creates a downloadable copy for safekeeping. | Legacy Fitbit users can request a full archive; Google says large archives may take up to a few days. | The downloaded copy remains available to you; it does not alter the account. | No automatic import. It is an archive, not a migration. |
| Smaller export | Downloads only the period, data types, and file format you choose. | Yes, for the options exposed by the export page. | Yes; exporting does not change the account. | No automatic import. |
| Health Connect or Apple Health connection | Shares permitted categories between Google Health and compatible apps or devices. | You choose categories and permissions. | Permissions can be changed or revoked. | Depends on the app. A connection may send new activity without importing old Fitbit records. |
Check your account before touching the migration button
Use the login that currently opens your Fitbit account. Some people now sign in with a Google Account; others still use a legacy Fitbit username and password. The export and recovery choices differ, so identify the working sign-in first.
- Confirm the email address or Google Account you expect to own the destination data.
- Make sure you can complete any email, password, or two-step verification challenge.
- Decide whether a family account is involved. Family moves have age and Google Family Group requirements.
- Check that you have enough local or cloud storage for an archive download.
- Record which devices and services you currently use so you can test them again afterward.
Do not start the move as a casual test. Google’s documented flow is one-way, and choosing the wrong destination account can leave your history attached to an account you did not intend to use. A second Google Account is not a harmless test destination: the selected Fitbit history will be associated with whichever account you confirm.
Back up Fitbit data before migration
When you already sign in with a Google Account
Google directs these users to the Google data-download controls. Open the download-data page associated with your Google Account, select Google Health, choose the requested export options, and create the archive. Download the finished files and keep a second copy somewhere you control. This archive is your independent reference if a category or date appears differently after migration.
Keep the original archive rather than opening it, renaming every file, or reorganizing its contents immediately. A dated folder with the account email and download date makes it easier to identify which copy belongs to which account. If the download is split into several files, retain all of them; a partial archive is not a complete backup.
When you still use a legacy Fitbit login
- Open Fitbit settings and go to Data Export.
- Select Request Data for a full archive.
- Confirm the request from the email Fitbit sends.
- Wait for the archive to become available, then download it before beginning the account move.
Google says a large archive can take up to a few days. Keep the request email and the downloaded files until you have checked the migrated account. If the email does not arrive, check the address associated with the legacy login and your spam folder before submitting a duplicate request.
When you need a smaller, targeted copy
The separate export route for legacy users lets you select a time period, data types, and file format. Use it when you need a manageable copy of particular exercises, sleep data, or another category rather than the full archive. Selecting a narrow range does not migrate that range; it only determines what is included in the download.
A targeted export is useful for checking a specific year, training block, or category, but it should not replace a full archive when one is available. The full request and the smaller request are download workflows; neither one completes the Google Health account move.

What “selected historical data” means
The migration screen is the place to review the history and setup Google is offering for your account. Google explicitly promises retention of the historical data you choose to move. It does not publish a field-by-field guarantee that every entry, setting, family arrangement, or third-party connection will look exactly the same afterward.
That distinction matters when you plan your verification. Treat the migration as preservation of the selected history, not as a promise that every Fitbit screen, preference, device pairing, or linked service will be reproduced. Your export remains the reference for anything that is difficult to compare in the new interface.
If a category is important for medical, coaching, insurance, or personal-record purposes, note representative dates in advance. You do not need to manually catalog every entry, but choosing an older workout, a sleep record, and a body-measurement entry gives you useful checks after the move.
Move the Fitbit account in Google Health
- Open the Google Health app.
- Sign in with the existing Fitbit credentials that currently access your account.
- When the account-move prompt appears, read the information about the destination Google Account.
- Review the Fitbit data and setup shown on the review screen. Check the account identity, selected history, and any family or connected-service details you recognize.
- Change the selection if the app allows you to do so, and verify that the destination Google Account is the one you intend to keep.
- Confirm the move only after your review is complete.
- Leave the app open long enough for the confirmation to finish, then sign in again if prompted.
Google says the historical data you choose to move remains in your Google Account. It does not guarantee that every Fitbit setting, connection, family arrangement, or record type will reappear exactly as before, so treat the review screen as a selection and account check rather than a promise of a field-for-field copy.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Do not cancel halfway through or switch accounts while the confirmation is processing. If the app reports an error, capture the message and contact support before trying another destination account. Repeating the process with a different Google Account will not make the completed move reversible.
What happens to family accounts
Google’s family-account instructions distinguish children from adults. When a Fitbit family is moved, only children under 13—or the applicable age in their country—move with the guardian. Older children and adults must move their own accounts.
A family migration also has Google Family Group requirements. Before confirming, identify which person controls each account and whether the family members can complete their own sign-in and migration. Do not assume that moving the guardian automatically transfers every adult’s history.

Explain the sequence to family members before anyone confirms a move. Each adult or older child should know which Google Account will receive their data and should preserve an export when that option is available. A guardian’s successful move is not evidence that every dependent or adult account has moved.

Android: Health Connect
Google Health can share data through Health Connect on Android 9 or higher. You need an adult Google Account. In the Health Connect setup, select the data categories and permissions you want to grant, then approve each compatible app or device.
Health Connect controls sharing; it does not guarantee that an app will import your entire Fitbit archive. An app may receive new steps, workouts, sleep, or other categories from the date you authorize it while leaving older Fitbit entries untouched. Check the destination app’s own import documentation before deleting the export archive.
Grant only the categories the app needs. If one service should read workouts but not sleep or body measurements, use the category controls rather than approving everything. You can change or revoke permissions later, but revoking access does not erase the historical archive you already downloaded.
iPhone: Apple Health
On iPhone, Google Health can use Apple Health for supported sharing. Review the categories and permissions in Apple Health, and grant only what you want the connected service to read or write. The presence of a connection does not establish that historical Fitbit records will be backfilled.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check both directions where the interface offers them: an app may be allowed to read a category without being allowed to write it. After authorizing access, create a new test activity and verify which app receives it. Do not infer historical import from a successful permission screen.
Other devices and services
Google’s connection documentation lists support for devices including Apple Watch, Garmin, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Whoop, and Oura, and apps including Strava and MyFitnessPal. Compatibility and direction of data flow vary by service. Connect one service at a time and verify a recent activity before changing another permission.

Google specifically warns in its Strava guidance that previous exercises may not upload through the normal connection. For a particular workaround, it recommends exporting a TCX file and using the supported Strava import process. That example illustrates the general rule: a newly connected service may handle future activity but not historical Fitbit workouts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verify the result before relying on it
- Open the Google Health history and check several dates spread across the period you care about, not only the newest entry.
- Compare totals or representative entries with your downloaded archive: for example, inspect an older exercise, a sleep record, and a body-measurement entry if those categories matter to you.
- Confirm that the correct Google Account is active in the app and on the web controls.
- Reconnect only the apps and devices you still use, granting the minimum categories required.
- Trigger a new workout or measurement and confirm where it appears. A new entry proves the connection is working now; it does not prove that old records were imported.
- Keep the archive until you have completed this check and decided how you will retain it long term.
Use dates from different years or seasons if your history is long. An account can show recent activity while an older category is absent or displayed differently. Compare the same unit and date range where possible, because a changed presentation is not automatically a lost record.
If the migration prompt is missing
The published deadlines mean support availability is uncertain. Fitbit-account access ended on May 19, 2026, and Google said users could download or delete data before deletion processing began on July 15, 2026. Some users were still able to migrate during the processing period, but the guidance does not guarantee eligibility after those dates.
- Update the Google Health app and sign out and back in with the Fitbit credentials that previously worked.
- Check that you are not using a different Google Account from the one you intend to receive the data.
- Look for an existing export email or archive before submitting another request.
- Contact Google support with the Fitbit login, destination Google Account, and any migration or export error text.
Do not create a new Fitbit account to replace the old one. A new account will not recreate the historical data that was associated with the original login. Do not delete the old export or related email while support is investigating, because those files may be the only independent copy you can still access.
Privacy and deletion controls
Google states that Google Health and Fitbit health and wellness data are not used for Google Ads. Google also provides Google Account and in-app controls to review, export, or delete Google Health data. Use those controls to inspect what is stored and to remove data you no longer want retained. This is Google’s stated policy and control set; it is separate from an independent privacy assessment.
Before deleting anything, distinguish between removing a connected app’s permission and deleting the underlying Google Health history. They are different controls. If you need a record for personal or professional purposes, verify that the archive opens and contains the needed categories before using deletion controls.

A practical order of operations
- Identify the Fitbit login that still works and the Google Account that should receive the data.
- Request and download a full or targeted export if the controls remain available.
- Open Google Health and sign in with the Fitbit credentials.
- Review the account, selected history, family details, and displayed setup.
- Complete the one-way move only when the destination is correct.
- Check representative historical entries and keep the archive.
- Reconnect Health Connect, Apple Health, devices, and third-party apps individually, then test a new activity.
This sequence separates preservation from migration: the archive protects against an unexpected result, while the Google Health move makes the selected history available in the new account.
Best Value
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing export with migration: downloading files does not place them in Google Health.
- Skipping the destination check: the move cannot be undone, so verify the Google Account shown by the prompt.
- Assuming every connection transfers: device pairings and third-party links may need to be authorized again.
- Expecting automatic backfill: Health Connect, Apple Health, and app integrations may handle new activity only.
- Moving only the guardian account: older children and adults must complete their own moves.
- Deleting the archive too soon: retain it until representative dates and categories have been checked.
- Waiting past the deadline without checking: the May 19 and July 15, 2026 dates have passed, and eligibility is not guaranteed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will all of my Fitbit history appear in Google Health?
Google says you keep all historical data that you choose to move. It does not promise that every record type, setting, family arrangement, or connection will appear identically. Review the migration screen and compare representative dates with an export.
Is exporting my Fitbit data the same as moving my account?
No. An export creates a downloadable archive and does not move the account or import records into Google Health. The account move happens in the Google Health app and cannot be undone.
Can I still migrate after May 19 or July 15, 2026?
Those published dates have passed. Google noted that some users might still migrate during deletion processing, but it does not guarantee eligibility. Try the in-app prompt and contact Google support if it is unavailable.
What if I use a Fitbit family account?
Children under 13, or the applicable age in their country, move with the guardian. Older children and adults must move their own accounts, and the family must meet Google Family Group requirements.
Will Health Connect import my old Fitbit workouts?
Not necessarily. Health Connect shares permitted categories with compatible apps, but each app decides whether it imports historical records. Test a new activity and check the destination app’s own import guidance.
How should I handle Strava history?
Google warns that previous exercises may not upload through the normal Strava connection. For a specific workaround, it recommends exporting a TCX file and using Strava’s supported import process.
The Bottom Line
Save a full or targeted export first if the controls still work. Then open Google Health, sign in with the Fitbit credentials, verify the destination Google Account and selected history, and complete the one-way move only after reviewing the details. Check representative dates afterward, reconnect services one at a time, and keep the archive because Google does not promise a field-for-field recreation of every Fitbit record or connection.
