How to Switch a Soulmask Server to Shifting Sands and Enable the Egypt DLC

To run Soulmask’s Shifting Sands (Egypt DLC) on a hosted or dedicated server, stop the server, change its map value to DLC_Level01_Main, save the setting, and start the server again. Shifting Sands is a separate world from Cloud Mist Forest, so a simple map change does not merge saves or move an existing character. Every player joining must own the base game and the Shifting Sands DLC on Steam.

The map value you need

Soulmask identifies its two worlds with different map values. Cloud Mist Forest uses Level01_Main. Shifting Sands, the Egypt-themed DLC world, uses DLC_Level01_Main. The latter is the value that must be entered in a server panel’s map field or selected through a command-line manager.

World Server map value Save identity
Cloud Mist Forest (base game) Level01_Main Separate from the DLC world
Shifting Sands (Egypt DLC) DLC_Level01_Main Separate from the base-game world

Do not enter the store name “Shifting Sands” in a raw map field unless your host specifically provides a preset with that name. The operational map identifier is the code above.

What to check before changing the server

  • Base game: Soulmask is required before the DLC can be used.
  • DLC entitlement: Shifting Sands is a separate Steam DLC. The Steam listing showed a $19.99 price when checked in 2026; prices and promotions can change, so confirm the current store listing before buying.
  • Player ownership: Each person joining the Shifting Sands server must own the DLC on Steam, not just the server administrator.
  • Maintenance window: Stop the server before editing its map setting. Players connected during a restart will be disconnected.
  • Save expectations: Cloud Mist Forest and Shifting Sands use separate worlds and save paths. A map switch is not a character-transfer operation.
  • Recovery plan: Record the existing map value and make sure you can return to Level01_Main if you decide to restore the base-game world.

These checks prevent the two most common surprises: players without the DLC being unable to join and owners assuming that changing one setting will carry their established character into the new world.

#1 Best Overall

Switch a hosted or dedicated server to Shifting Sands

GhostCap, Game Host Bros, and XGamingServer document the same basic sequence. Labels vary between control panels, but the operation is identical: stop, edit the map, save, and restart.

  1. Tell players about the downtime. A map change requires the server to be offline while its startup configuration is edited.
  2. Stop the Soulmask server. Use the panel’s Stop button and wait until the status confirms that the process has ended. Do not edit a live startup command.
  3. Open the map or startup setting. Depending on the host, this may be called Server Map, Startup, or a command-line setting. Find the field that currently contains Level01_Main or the equivalent Cloud Mist Forest preset.
  4. Set the map to DLC_Level01_Main. Replace the old value exactly, including capital letters and underscores. If the panel offers a Shifting Sands preset, selecting it should populate this same map value.
  5. Save or apply the configuration. Some panels require an explicit Save, Apply, or Save changes action before the new startup command is generated.
  6. Start or restart the server. Use Start after saving. If the panel provides only Restart, use it only after the map change has been applied.
  7. Wait for the server to finish starting. Allow the normal startup process to complete before asking players to connect. A restart that occurs before the new command is saved can bring the server back on Cloud Mist Forest.
  8. Have a DLC owner connect. Test with an account that owns Shifting Sands and the base game. Players who do not own the DLC should not be used as the only test account.

If your host exposes the map as a single text field, the final value should be DLC_Level01_Main. If it exposes named command lines instead, choose the entry that explicitly says Shifting Sands (Egypt DLC).

Using a command-line manager preset

Pingperfect presents the same change through its Commandline Manager rather than a free-form map box. The workflow is:

  1. Stop the server and wait for it to go offline.
  2. Open Commandline Manager.
  3. Select Shifting Sands (Egypt DLC).
  4. Save or apply the command-line selection.
  5. Start the server and wait for initialization to finish.

A preset is simply a host’s interface for writing the correct startup value. It does not combine the DLC world with an existing Cloud Mist Forest save.

What happens to your existing character and world?

Changing the map value should be treated as selecting a different world, not as moving a save. XGamingServer documents separate save paths for Level01_Main and DLC_Level01_Main. GhostCap and Game Host Bros warn that a straightforward map switch does not transfer existing character data and may require starting fresh on the selected map.

That means your Cloud Mist Forest progress is not converted into a Shifting Sands character by editing the setting. The two worlds have distinct save identities. Before switching, decide whether the group is willing to begin on the DLC map with the character state available there, rather than assuming that levels, inventory, bases, or equipment will appear automatically.

A switch also changes which world the server presents to players. It is not a way to keep both maps online simultaneously, and it is not the same as a cross-server transfer. If you later change the setting back to Level01_Main, you are selecting the base-game world again; you are not merging progress made on the DLC map into it.

How to keep both maps available with a two-server cluster

If your goal is to travel between Cloud Mist Forest and Shifting Sands, use two configured servers instead of repeatedly changing one server’s map value. EmeraldHost documents a setup with a main server, a separate Shifting Sands client server, cross-server settings, and an in-game portal terminal.

What the arrangement provides

  • The main server can continue running the Cloud Mist Forest world.
  • A second server runs Shifting Sands with the DLC map value.
  • Cross-server settings allow the two instances to recognize the intended connection.
  • An in-game portal terminal provides the player-facing route between worlds.

High-level setup sequence

  1. Provision or enable a second Soulmask server instance for Shifting Sands.
  2. Configure that instance with DLC_Level01_Main, using the same stop-edit-save-start process described above.
  3. Leave the Cloud Mist Forest instance on Level01_Main.
  4. Apply the host’s cross-server settings to the main and client servers as documented by the host.
  5. Start both servers and place the in-game portal terminal where players can reach it.
  6. Test movement with a character that meets the host’s transfer conditions before inviting the whole group.

EmeraldHost notes that the first-created character has transfer limitations. The exact restriction is host- and configuration-dependent, so check the provider’s current instructions before designing a progression plan around unrestricted movement.

Single-server switch versus a two-server cluster

Consideration Single-server map switch Two-server cluster
Setup complexity Low: edit one map setting and restart. Higher: configure two instances, cross-server settings, and a portal terminal.
Are both worlds available at once? No. The server exposes whichever map is currently selected. Yes. One server can run Cloud Mist Forest while the other runs Shifting Sands.
Character and item movement No automatic transfer when changing the map; the worlds use separate saves. Cross-server movement may be possible through the configured connection, subject to transfer rules and the first-created-character limitation noted by EmeraldHost.
Downtime Requires stopping and restarting the server for each map change. Initial configuration requires restarts; once both instances are operating, visiting the other world does not require changing the main server’s map value.
DLC ownership Every player joining the Shifting Sands instance needs the Steam DLC and base game. The same ownership rule applies whenever a player enters the Shifting Sands instance.
Best fit A group that wants to play one world at a time or test the DLC. A group that wants both worlds online and accepts the additional administration.

How the DLC is sold and what it adds

Shifting Sands is a separate Steam purchase rather than a map toggle included automatically with the base game. CampFire Studio’s Steam listing describes an Egypt-themed, anti-gravity world, a buildable Solar Barge, and new masks. The listing says: “Soulmask: Shifting Sands features a world as large as the base game, with 500+ hours of content.” That is the publisher’s stated content figure, not a guaranteed playtime for every player.

The store price was listed as $19.99 when checked in 2026. Steam pricing, regional currency, taxes, and promotional discounts can change, so use the live listing for the amount and entitlement terms that apply to your account.

Troubleshooting a failed map switch

The server still loads Cloud Mist Forest

  • Stop the server again and inspect the active startup or command-line setting.
  • Confirm that the value is DLC_Level01_Main, not Level01_Main.
  • Use the panel’s explicit Save or Apply control. Closing the page without applying changes may leave the old command active.
  • If your host uses presets, select Shifting Sands (Egypt DLC) in the Commandline Manager rather than editing an unrelated profile.
  • Start only after the panel reports that the new configuration is active.

A player cannot join

  • Confirm that the player owns both Soulmask and Shifting Sands on the same Steam account being used to connect.
  • Check that the player is joining the server after the restart has completed.
  • Have a DLC-owning account test first; a non-owner cannot verify whether the server itself is configured correctly.

The group expects old characters to appear

Explain that the map switch selects a separate world and save path. Existing character data is not transferred by changing the map value. If preserving access to both worlds is important, restore the original server arrangement and plan a two-server cluster instead of repeatedly switching one instance.

Players want to return to Cloud Mist Forest

Stop the server, change the map setting back to Level01_Main, save it, and restart. This returns the instance to the base-game map; it does not combine progress from the two worlds.

The cluster portal does not provide unrestricted transfers

Review the cross-server configuration and the host’s transfer rules. The documented cluster approach includes a limitation for the first-created character, so test with an eligible character and do not assume that every character, item, or progression state can move freely.

Choosing the right approach

  • Choose a single-server switch when the group wants to sample Shifting Sands, is comfortable with separate world progress, and does not need Cloud Mist Forest available at the same time.
  • Choose a two-server cluster when the group wants a persistent base-game world alongside the Egypt DLC world and is prepared to configure and maintain two instances.
  • Delay the switch if some players have not purchased the DLC or if the group has not agreed on how separate character and save data will be handled.

The essential setting is short, but the decision around saves is not: DLC_Level01_Main selects Shifting Sands; it does not migrate a Cloud Mist Forest campaign.
