How to Survive Frozen Trail in ARC Raiders: Cold Hazards, Pendola Pass Routes, and Supplies

Surviving Frozen Trail starts with treating Pendola Pass as a cold, high-risk extraction map rather than a normal scavenging run. Watch for frost on your clothing, heavier breathing, and freezing breath; carry bandages; move between cover and escape options; and keep your route flexible because Pendola Pass is testing Dynamic Loot Zones that can change the value of areas between raids. The official winter advice about warming, sprint preparation, and distractions comes from the December 2025 Cold Snap guide, so confirm each interaction in-game rather than assuming every tip is a newly introduced Frozen Trail mechanic.

What Frozen Trail adds to ARC Raiders

Frozen Trail launched on October 8, 2026. Its central destination is Pendola Pass, a region beyond the mountain ridge and Rust Belt. The launch material presents Raiders as pioneers entering an area where reliable information is limited. Ballistic Gondolas are operating, but reaching the new map is only the beginning: the pass combines severe cold, narrow terrain, unfamiliar ARC threats, and raid-to-raid loot variation.

The official preview describes an icy route containing an old Italian village and an Exodus transport hub. Points of interest include a supermarket, town square, observatory, and buried train depot. The same preview warns of brutal flash freezes. Those locations give you landmarks for navigation, not a guaranteed order of travel or a promise that one building will always contain the best loot.

New threats in the pass

  • Bully and Skulker are among the new ARC threats introduced with Frozen Trail.
  • Hydra is associated with the Frigate. The official guidance is to divert its attention, reach cover quickly, and attack rapidly when an opening appears.

Frozen Trail is therefore both an environmental and combat challenge. A route that looks efficient on a map can become dangerous if it leaves you exposed during a flash freeze or forces you to fight the Hydra without nearby cover.

How to recognize dangerous cold

Do not wait for a health bar or an assumed countdown before reacting. The official Cold Snap developer guide identifies visual and audio cues that indicate your core temperature is falling:

In-game cue What it tells you Immediate response
Frost appearing on clothing Your character is becoming colder. Reduce exposure and move toward cover or a safer interior.
Heavier breathing Cold stress is becoming more apparent through the character audio. Stop taking unnecessary detours and prepare an extraction or warming action.
Breath visibly freezing in the air This is an explicit warning that you are getting colder. Gameplay Programmer Fredrik Åhström described it as: “When you see your breath freezing in the air that means you are getting colder.” Treat it as a decision point: shelter, warm up, or leave rather than continuing to loot in the open.

The guide predates Frozen Trail, so it establishes official winter warning language rather than a published list of every Pendola Pass effect. The preview separately confirms brutal flash freezes on the new map. Because no official source supplies a universal cold timer, damage value, or survival percentage, do not plan a run around an invented number. Use the cues your character actually displays.

What a flash freeze changes in practice

A flash freeze compresses your decision time. A long crossing that was acceptable a moment earlier may become a liability when visibility, exposure, or enemy pressure rises. Before leaving a building, identify the next piece of cover, the nearest alternate entrance, and the direction of extraction. If the next landmark offers no protection, shorten the route even when its loot looks attractive.

Supplies and preparation before deployment

Carry supplies that support recovery and movement rather than filling your inventory with speculative equipment. The official winter guide specifically recommends keeping bandages stocked and preparing sprint stamina for longer runs. The launch announcement also points Raiders toward Outpost preparation and names Tethers and the Grapple Hook as useful in-game choices. They are options, not mandatory purchases or a fixed loadout requirement.

Core preparation checklist

  • Bandages: Bring enough to recover from mistakes, combat damage, or a dangerous crossing. The official guide recommends keeping them stocked; it does not publish a Frozen Trail quantity.
  • Sprint stamina: Prepare for longer runs between cover and extraction. Stamina planning matters when a narrow pass or a Hydra encounter forces a rapid reposition.
  • Mobility options: Consider Tethers or a Grapple Hook when your planned route contains vertical access, broken sightlines, or a need to disengage. Their usefulness depends on the current raid layout.
  • Weapons: Choose a weapon setup that lets you exploit a short opening against the Hydra without committing to a prolonged exposed fight. No official source establishes a best weapon or damage threshold.
  • Inventory space: Leave room for valuable finds so that a variable loot zone does not force you to abandon a better item later.

There is no source-backed consumer accessory that makes Frozen Trail safer. Controllers, headsets, and computer hardware are not established requirements for surviving Pendola Pass.

How to plan a route on Pendola Pass

Pendola Pass rewards flexible routing. The update notes describe a test of the Dynamic Loot Zone system: the loot value of certain areas varies between raids. That means a fixed “best route” or guaranteed loot yield is not supported by the current information. Plan around exposure, cover, escape options, and the time you can spend scavenging, then adjust after you see the current raid.

Use landmarks without treating them as promises

The supermarket, town square, observatory, buried train depot, village structures, and Exodus transport hub are useful orientation points. A practical first pass is to identify which landmark is closest to your insertion and which offers the most reliable cover on the way out. Do not assume the same landmark will always be the most valuable: Dynamic Loot Zones can change area values between raids.

Choose a route with three decision points

  1. Exposure check: From your starting position, identify the longest open section before the next cover. If a flash freeze or ARC patrol would leave you stranded there, select a shorter movement chain.
  2. Loot check: Scout the first accessible area and judge its current value against the time and noise required to search it. Dynamic values make early information more useful than memorized rankings.
  3. Extraction check: Before committing deeper into the pass, locate at least one fallback path. A route that has excellent loot but no alternate exit is a poor choice when the Hydra or another ARC threat appears.

Compare route choices by trade-off

Planning axis Safer choice Riskier choice When the risk can be justified
Cold exposure versus scavenging time Short interior-to-interior movements and an earlier extraction. Long outdoor crossings to search more structures. Only when the current area appears unusually valuable and you have cover at both ends.
Cover and escape options versus loot value A less valuable site with multiple exits. A high-value site with one obvious approach or exit. When your mobility tools and stamina are intact and no major threat is active.
Flexibility versus a fixed route Scout, reassess, and change direction. Follow a memorized sequence regardless of current loot or threats. A fixed sequence is useful only as a navigation aid, never as a guaranteed result.

These are planning comparisons, not tested rankings. The official material establishes variable loot and severe cold, but it does not publish route success rates or a preferred order for Pendola Pass landmarks.

Step-by-step raid routine

Use the following routine to turn the map’s uncertainty into manageable decisions.

  1. Prepare at the Outpost. Check your bandages, sprint readiness, and mobility choices. If you intend to use Tethers or a Grapple Hook, know which movement problem each one is meant to solve.
  2. Set a conservative first objective. Pick a nearby covered structure or landmark rather than committing immediately to the far side of the pass.
  3. Watch your character, not just the map. Frost, heavier breathing, and freezing breath are reasons to shorten the route. Do not continue because a planned marker is only a few minutes away.
  4. Scout before searching deeply. Check entrances, exits, sightlines, and nearby cover before opening every container. A valuable room is not worth being trapped in it.
  5. Reassess the Dynamic Loot Zone. If the current area offers little value or demands excessive exposure, leave and test another location. Do not force a route because it worked in a previous raid.
  6. Keep stamina for the exit. Sprinting into a site and arriving exhausted removes your best response to a flash freeze, a patrol, or the Hydra.
  7. Extract as soon as the risk no longer matches the haul. The pass is designed around uncertain information. A successful extraction with a moderate haul is preferable to losing everything while chasing a variable hotspot.

How to avoid and fight the Hydra

The Hydra is tied to the Frigate and has a clear official response sequence: divert its attention, reach cover quickly, and attack rapidly when an opening appears. This is a timing tactic, not an instruction to stand in the open and trade damage.

Hydra response sequence

  1. Break its immediate focus. Use movement, line-of-sight changes, or another available distraction to keep the Hydra from controlling your position.
  2. Move to cover immediately. Prioritize solid protection and an exit route over a closer piece of loot. The preview specifically emphasizes getting to cover quickly.
  3. Wait for an opening. Do not spend your resources during a moment when the Hydra can punish a stationary attack.
  4. Attack rapidly. When the opening appears, deal your damage decisively, then reposition rather than lingering in the same exposed angle.
  5. Disengage if the route collapses. If cold cues intensify, cover disappears, or your escape is blocked, extraction is safer than forcing a prolonged encounter.

The available sources do not identify a required weapon, a health total, or a guaranteed solo strategy for the Hydra. Treat any exact damage or time claim found elsewhere as unverified unless a later official update supplies it.

Official winter tactics that may help

Several useful ideas come from the December 20, 2025 Cold Snap developer guide. They are official winter guidance, but they predate Frozen Trail and should be tested in the current map.

Warming by fire

The guide states, “Being on fire is the fastest way to warm up.” That describes the fastest warming method in the cited winter guidance, not a promise that every fire interaction works identically in Pendola Pass. Use it only when the game gives you a safe, controllable opportunity; do not create a hazard beside an active ARC threat or in an exposed position.

Snowball distractions

The guide says throwing snowballs at alarmed cars can create a noise distraction that draws ARC away from your location. Because the tip is from Cold Snap, verify that alarmed cars and snowball behavior are present and unchanged on Frozen Trail before making them part of a planned route. If the interaction works, use it to redirect attention while crossing or repositioning, not as a substitute for cover.

Candleberry foraging

The Candleberry bush is evergreen and bears bright red fruit, according to Game Designer Andreea Dragoman. World and Level Designer Marika Ohlsson says bushes are usually around smaller structures, rocky areas, and other foliage. This is seasonal foraging context, not evidence that Candleberries are an essential Pendola Pass survival item. Do not spend valuable exposure time searching for them unless the current objective specifically rewards that activity.

Dynamic Loot Zones and changing raid value

Dynamic Loot Zones are described as a test in the Frozen Trail update notes. Certain areas can have different loot values from one raid to another, so community route maps should be treated as orientation references rather than permanent rankings. A route that was efficient yesterday may be inefficient in the next raid because the reward changed while the exposure did not.

The update notes also state that Raiders can still fire weapons and take damage in the affected state, and that returning to Speranza restores the loadout to its pre-match state. Because the notes do not define a broader combat advantage from that state, do not interpret the wording as immunity, invulnerability, or permission to ignore incoming damage. If a raid behaves unexpectedly, prioritize cover and extraction while observing what the current patch permits.

Trials Season 6 timing and objectives

Trials Season 6 is scheduled for October 8 through November 16, 2026. Its objectives include Pendola Pass hotspots and the new ARC threats. If you are entering the map to complete a trial, add the objective to your route only after identifying a safe fallback. A trial target can justify visiting a less familiar area, but it does not remove the need to monitor cold cues or preserve an extraction path.

Common mistakes and fixes

Following a “best route” guide literally

Why it fails: Dynamic Loot Zones make area value variable, while cold and ARC pressure can change the cost of reaching the same landmark.

Fix: Use route guides for landmarks, then scout the current raid and choose the branch with better cover and escape options.

Waiting for a numerical cold timer

Why it fails: No official source supplies a universal Frozen Trail cold timer, damage value, or survival threshold.

Fix: React to frost, heavier breathing, and freezing breath, and shorten the route when those cues appear.

Searching one building too deeply

Why it fails: Time spent indoors can turn into a dangerous exposure run if the exit is blocked or a new threat arrives.

Trying to out-damage the Hydra in the open

Why it fails: The official preview emphasizes diversion, rapid movement to cover, and attacks during openings.

Fix: Break its focus, reach cover, strike quickly, and reposition.

Assuming Cold Snap interactions are guaranteed on Frozen Trail

Why it fails: The detailed warming, snowball, and foraging advice was published for the earlier winter condition.

Fix: Treat those ideas as official winter guidance and verify the interaction in the current map and patch.

Practical extraction checklist

  • Bandages are stocked.
  • Your sprint stamina is reserved for movement and extraction.
  • You know the next covered position before crossing open ground.
  • You have identified an alternate exit from the current landmark.
  • You have checked whether the current area is worth its exposure under this raid’s loot values.
  • You can describe your Hydra response: divert, cover, opening, rapid attack, reposition.
  • You are willing to leave when cold warnings intensify, even if the original route is unfinished.

Frozen Trail is most manageable when you treat information as a resource. Pendola Pass does not offer a permanently correct path: its loot can shift, its flash freezes punish hesitation, and its threats reward cover and timing. Prepare at the Outpost, read the character cues, adapt around the current Dynamic Loot Zone, and extract before a marginal upgrade turns a controlled raid into a lost loadout.
