Survive a contested extraction by treating the point as a timed exposure event, not a finish line. Reach it before public options disappear, approach under cover, listen before activating, and keep a fallback route. During the countdown, one player should operate the terminal or elevator while teammates watch the most likely approaches. If the point is already covered, leave early or spend a Hatch Key on a quieter Raider Hatch rather than taking an open fight for low-value loot.
Regular extraction points are intentionally noisy. Their activation signal attracts ARC machines and can reveal your position to human Raiders, while the number of available public extractions decreases as a session continues. A downed Raider is not automatically out: crawl to the terminal, lift, or hatch immediately, because a collapsed player can still activate extraction for a short time.

Why extraction points become dangerous
ARC Raiders makes extraction a risk-versus-reward decision. Main extraction points have no direct item cost, but they create an obvious event that other players and ARC units can investigate. The developer’s Refining Risk and Reward design note says the longer a session lasts, the number of available extractions steadily diminishes. Waiting for a perfect opening therefore has a cost: the map can remove your alternatives while you are still fighting over the first point.
Epic Games Store’s ARC Raiders guide: 12 tips to help you survive the Rust Belt adds two practical hazards. Regular points are patrolled by ARC drones and robots, and interacting with the controls emits a loud blaring signal. That sound can attract both machines and human Raiders. A contested point is consequently a three-way problem: the countdown exposes you, enemies can arrive from multiple lanes, and the shrinking map of available points limits how long you can delay.

The safest objective is not “win the fight.” It is “leave with the loot.” If another squad has a clean angle on the terminal, your armor, ammunition, stamina and healing are usually worth more than a few extra containers. Prepare to disengage before the point turns into an unwinnable open-ground battle.
Choose your extraction option before you are under fire
Decide which escape options are acceptable while you still have time to move. The choice depends on exposure, item cost and how valuable the current run is.
| Option | Cost | Main exposure | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular lift, airshaft, subway or cargo elevator | No direct item cost | Loud activation; patrols by ARC units; attracts Raiders | Early arrival with cover and a squad member watching the approach |
| Raider Hatch | Requires a Hatch Key; opening is brief; one entrant at a time according to the Wiki | Usually quieter and placed in lower-foot-traffic areas, but keys are scarce | A high-value run or a public point watched by another squad |
| Crawl-to-extract while downed | No additional item cost, but only a short survival window | Extremely vulnerable to a human finishing blow | A last-chance escape after being knocked near the point |
| Leave and rotate to another point | Costs time and distance; the alternate point may close | Avoids the current fight but can expose you during the rotation | A camper, an ARC surge, or depleted resources at the current point |
Raider Hatches trade a resource for lower exposure. The developer’s data from the TT2 test period reported that high-level players used hatches 40% of the time. That is historical test data, not a current live-service usage rate or a guarantee that a hatch is safe. Treat a key as an insurance option for an especially valuable run, not as a reason to force every extraction through a hatch.
Prepare while the point is still quiet
Rotate before public options become scarce
Start moving toward an extraction before the last public options are closing. Public lifts and similar points disappear one by one as the session progresses. If you wait until the remaining timer is nearly gone, you may arrive with no practical fallback and be forced to activate in the open.
Approach the perimeter, not the console
Use cover to reach a position just outside the terminal or elevator. Stop there and listen for footsteps, gunfire, drone movement and other mechanical activity. The activation sound itself can reveal you, so do not expose the whole squad merely to check whether the point is empty. A short pause at the perimeter gives you information while preserving the ability to retreat.
Mark two routes
Before touching the controls, identify the route you will use if the point is occupied and the route you will use if the countdown becomes untenable. A fallback should lead to another extraction, solid cover or a break in line of sight; it should not be a vague direction across open ground. If you cannot describe the fallback to your squad in one sentence, you do not have one yet.
Reserve stamina and a recovery action
Keep enough stamina for the final sprint, a sudden dodge or a crawl through the last exposed section. Sprinting drains stamina, and a collapsed Raider has only a limited crawl window. Keep at least one heal or shield action available for the approach and countdown. A backpack full of low-value scrap is not worth losing your mobility or your entire carried load on elimination.
- Check that every squad member knows the primary point and fallback point.
- Keep one healing or shield action unused until the extraction is complete.
- Drop low-value scrap if the load is slowing the escape or preventing useful consumables.
- Approach from cover and stop short of the activation controls to listen.
- Identify the likely human approach lanes and the nearest ARC patrol route.
Use the first-arrival advantage
Being first does not mean you should immediately press the button. Epic’s guide notes that the first player or squad to reach an extraction can plan an ambush for opponents who arrive later. Use that preparation time to turn the point into a controlled exit.

Build a three-part position
- Operator: the player with the clearest, shortest path to the terminal or elevator controls. This player activates the point and moves toward cover as soon as the interaction is complete.
- Primary watcher: the player covering the most likely approach, such as a road, doorway, ridge or open lane leading to the terminal.
- Cross-cover and retreat: the third player watches the opposite lane, keeps the fallback route open and calls out any ARC movement that could cut off the exit.
In a duo, combine the operator and retreat roles only if the route is short; otherwise, have one player activate while the other holds the strongest approach. Solo players cannot cover every angle, so information and an early disengagement matter more than trying to hold the entire perimeter.
Choose cover that survives the countdown
Good extraction cover breaks line of sight to the terminal while allowing you to reach the exit quickly. Avoid a hiding spot that traps you behind a single doorway or forces you to cross the same open lane twice. Keep a visual or audio check on the controls, but do not stand directly beside them after activation. The goal is to make an arriving squad reveal itself before it can obtain a clean shot on the operator.
Communicate short, specific calls
Use calls that describe direction and action: “movement north,” “ARC on the lift,” “falling back to the wall,” or “leave now.” Long explanations during a countdown delay the decision. Call out when the operator starts, when the route is blocked and when the squad is abandoning the point.
Activate without giving away the whole squad
Once the point is clear enough to attempt, the operator should move to the controls while the watchers remain in cover. Regular points make a loud activation signal, so assume that every nearby player and machine now has a reason to investigate. Do not bunch the squad around the terminal or stand in the open waiting for the final seconds.
During the countdown
- Keep the operator and watchers separated enough that one burst of fire cannot hit everyone.
- Hold the most probable approach rather than chasing distant shots.
- Break line of sight after an enemy is spotted; forcing a bad angle is often safer than trading damage.
- Watch for ARC units entering the same lane as human Raiders. Their pressure can turn a manageable fight into a crossfire.
- Keep the fallback route usable. Do not push so far forward that returning to the extraction requires crossing open ground.
Fight only when an opponent blocks the escape or exposes an unavoidable angle. Gunfire can compound the ARC response and advertise your exact position. If a squad is probing from cover but has not closed the route, moving away and rotating is often the higher-value play.
When another squad arrives first
If you reach a point already watched by another Raider, do not stand at the obvious console and trade shots. Pause outside the sightline, identify where the camper must be to see the controls, and decide whether you can force that player to move. If the position cannot be approached without crossing open ground, rotate to the fallback or use a Raider Hatch if the run justifies spending a key.
A camper is most vulnerable when moving to finish a downed player, looting a body or responding to an ARC disturbance. That does not mean you should chase them. Take a shot only if it creates a clear extraction path; otherwise, remain concealed and leave before your resources are exhausted.

ARC patrols make an already noisy point harder to read. Their movement can mask a human approach, force you out of cover or create a second threat while the extraction timer runs. Do not assume that fighting the machines first makes the point safe. Their presence may be exactly what gives another Raider an opportunity to close the distance.

Use disruption as a reason to relocate
If an ARC wave occupies the terminal side and your fallback remains open, leave rather than trying to clear every machine. Preserve healing and ammunition for the rotation. If the only route is blocked, move to cover that breaks both machine and human sightlines, then reassess rather than remaining beside the controls.
Do not let loot anchor you
Extraction is the point at which low-value loot becomes a liability. Epic’s guide emphasizes safe pockets, consumables and the fact that elimination costs all carried equipment. Drop scrap that does not justify another exposure cycle. A lighter inventory improves the final sprint and reduces the temptation to return for a bag after a failed activation.
If a player is downed near the extraction
A knockdown is a shortened extraction attempt, not an automatic elimination. Epic’s guide and the ARC Raiders Wiki document that a downed Raider can still crawl to and interact with an extraction terminal. The getting-started guide describes roughly a minute of crawl time, but the exact window and related behavior can change with patches.

Move toward the terminal, elevator or hatch instead of waiting for a revive in the open. Every second spent stationary reduces the distance you can cover.
- Use the shortest protected line. Crawl behind cover where possible, even if that means approaching the controls from a less direct angle.
- Have a teammate screen the route. The standing player should block the most likely finishing angle, not expose themselves for a long revive beside the terminal.
- Attempt the interaction when in range. Downed players can interact with extraction systems according to the cited guide and Wiki, so the collapsed player may be able to trigger the escape directly.
- Abandon a blocked point. If a human Raider controls the crawl path, use the preselected fallback rather than spending the final seconds on a reckless revive.
ARC behavior does not make a downed player safe. A human Raider can still deliver a finishing blow, even if machines stop attacking a collapsed target. Teammates should prioritize blocking that finish or creating a retreat, not standing over the downed player without a plan.
When a Raider Hatch is the better answer
Raider Hatches require a Hatch Key, open briefly and are generally placed in areas with less foot traffic. The developer describes them as relatively quiet and quick compared with regular extraction points. The Wiki records one entrant at a time, so a squad must account for the opening sequence rather than assuming everyone can disappear together.
Spend the key when exposure is the greater cost
A hatch is most valuable when the public point is being watched, the current run contains high-value loot or your squad is too depleted to win an open engagement. It is less compelling when the regular point is empty, nearby cover is strong and the key may be needed for a more dangerous future run.
Secure the hatch before opening
“Quiet” does not mean invisible. Check the immediate approach, place one player on the likely lane and keep the retreat route available. Because the opening is brief, do not begin the interaction while a teammate is still crossing an exposed area. Group at the protected side first, then activate in a sequence that prevents the last player from being stranded.

Use the historical rate correctly
The developer reported that high-level players used hatches 40% of the time in TT2 test data. That figure describes a historical test population and does not establish a current rate, a success probability or a balance target for every map. Use it as evidence that experienced players valued the lower-exposure option, not as a rule that hatches are always optimal.

When to abandon the point
Leaving is the correct choice when the point no longer offers a credible path to the exit. Abandon early if a camper has a stable angle on the controls, an ARC surge has occupied the only cover, your squad has no healing or stamina for the final crossing, or the fallback is about to close but remains reachable now.
A simple go-or-leave test
- Go: the operator can reach the controls under cover, the watchers have defined lanes, and the fallback remains open.
- Wait briefly: an opponent is probing but has not established a firing angle, and your squad can remain concealed without losing the alternate route.
- Leave: the approach requires open-ground exposure, a human Raider controls the crawl path, or the squad would need to spend its last healing action merely to start the interaction.
Do not wait for certainty. Public extraction options diminish over time, but a doomed activation also consumes time and resources. The purpose of the test is to make a quick decision before the point becomes the only option left.
Timing, overtime and patch-sensitive mechanics
The ARC Raiders Wiki reports that an extraction point may not deactivate if its terminal was interacted with immediately before shutdown, allowing an escape in “overtime.” Treat this as a documented, patch-sensitive mechanic rather than a guaranteed loophole. Attempting to trigger it at the last possible moment can strand a squad if a patch changes the timing or if the interaction does not register.

Common mistakes that turn a winnable extraction into a wipe
Running directly to the controls
A direct sprint reveals your route and often leaves no stamina for the final crossing. Stop short, listen and approach from cover.
Putting the whole squad on the terminal
A single burst, ARC attack or grenade can hit everyone. Separate the operator from the watchers and keep one lane open for retreat.
Chasing a camper away from the point
Chasing converts a defensive extraction into an uncertain fight. Hold the route, force the opponent to expose themselves or rotate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteReviving before securing the crawl path
A downed teammate may still extract. A revive in the open can expose both players and leave neither able to reach the controls. Screen the path first, then choose between crawl-to-extract and revive.
Best Value
Saving every piece of scrap
Full bags encourage dangerous returns and reduce flexibility. Drop low-value items when they interfere with stamina, healing or a clean retreat.
Assuming a quiet point is uncontested
Silence is only an observation. The activation signal can still bring Raiders and ARC units, so the squad must take positions before pressing the controls.
Scenario playbooks
You arrive first with a full squad
Stop outside the terminal, assign operator, primary watcher and retreat roles, identify the fallback and activate only after the lanes are covered. After the signal sounds, remain in cover and let arriving players reveal their approach. Leave if the pressure blocks the route.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
You arrive while another squad is watching
Do not challenge the obvious console. Use concealment to identify the watcher, look for a second approach and compare the value of the current loot with the cost of a Hatch Key or a long rotation. If no safe angle exists, leave before the camper can force a close fight.
You are solo and hear movement during activation
Break line of sight, listen for the direction of approach and keep the fallback within a short sprint. A solo player cannot cover multiple lanes, so prioritize an exit over holding the terminal. If the route is blocked, abandon the point rather than waiting for enemies to surround it.
A teammate is downed beside the terminal
Call the downed player toward the controls immediately. Screen the shortest crawl path, watch for a human finisher and avoid a prolonged revive in the open. If the enemy owns the path, use the alternate extraction.
The shutdown is imminent
If the terminal was interacted with immediately before shutdown, the Wiki documents a possible overtime escape. Because the behavior is patch-sensitive, use it only when the interaction is already in progress and the route is otherwise viable; do not build the entire run around a last-second gamble.
Extraction checklist
- Have you started rotating before public options become scarce?
- Do you know the covered approach, the primary fallback and the second extraction option?
- Have you stopped short of the controls to listen for Raiders and ARC units?
- Who operates, who watches the main lane and who covers the retreat?
- Does every player have enough stamina for the final crossing?
- Is at least one heal or shield action available?
- Will the current loot justify a Hatch Key or an open fight?
- If someone is downed, can they crawl to the controls immediately?
- What exact call means “leave now” for your squad?
The survival rule to remember
A contested extraction is won by preserving options. Arrive early enough to choose, use cover before and after activation, make the loud signal work for your ambush rather than against you, and leave when the point stops offering a credible route. Regular points are free but exposed; Raider Hatches are quieter but consume a key; a downed player can still crawl and interact, but only for a short and vulnerable window. Plan for all three outcomes before the countdown starts.
