How to unlock and summon the Pufferfish

Speak with the Tourist and exchange an endangered fish for Carrot bait. Mobalytics specifically reports that a Seahorse is accepted. Check the catch’s in-game label before trading rather than assuming any fish will qualify.

Use the Carrot as bait to trigger the encounter. The exchange is part of summoning the boss, so be prepared to fight before spending the catch. One guide says a failed attempt may mean obtaining another endangered fish for replacement bait; treat that as a possibility, not a guaranteed rule.

How to survive the fight
Keep moving while you attack
The Pufferfish rolls into a charge. Running while shooting gives you a better chance to avoid its path than standing still. Try to keep space around you so you can change direction when it starts moving.
Use terrain to interrupt its charge
Trees and other terrain can get in the way of the boss’s rolling route and create a brief opening to attack. Move around obstacles rather than getting trapped against them; the goal is to make the charge miss or lose its line while you keep dealing damage.

Watch for poison later in the encounter
Mobalytics reports that the Pufferfish grows larger and leaves purple poison later in the fight. Move out of the affected area instead of standing in the hazard to continue firing.

Bring a strong ranged weapon and upgrade it if you can. PC Gamer’s August 25, 2026 guide describes one author’s experience: after unsuccessful shotgun attempts, they won with an upgraded SMG while running and shooting. That is a useful example, not proof that an SMG is required or that it is the best weapon for every player.

What to do after defeating the boss
Collect the quest drop and return it as directed by the active objective. Mobalytics calls the item a Pufferfish Fin and says returning it unlocks the next island’s coordinates; another guide describes collecting the remains and delivering them. Because those descriptions differ, check the item and quest marker in your current game before leaving the arena.
