You can keep prerecorded videos playing as a YouTube live stream by sending a continuous feed from an encoder on your computer, dedicated hardware, or a cloud streaming service. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for streaming prerecorded videos 24/7, but neither that listing nor YouTube’s setup guidance guarantees uninterrupted uptime. Before going live, enable streaming on your channel, configure the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, test the feed, and make sure every part of the video is cleared for use.
What you need for a continuous YouTube live stream
A prerecorded-video broadcast is not the same as uploading a video and setting it to repeat on a watch page. An encoder sends a live feed to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key. You can run that encoder as software on a computer, use standalone hardware, or use a cloud service designed for continuous prerecorded-video streaming. YouTube documents these encoder options and lists Gyre in its category for 24/7 prerecorded streams; that listing is not an endorsement or a promise of uptime. The best fit depends on where you want the feed to run and who will monitor and restore it if something goes wrong. A computer-based setup depends on that computer and its connection staying available; hardware and cloud services have their own recovery and operating requirements. Check a provider’s current terms, pricing, and recovery behavior rather than assuming any option will automatically resume after an interruption. YouTube’s documentation does not provide an independent cost or reliability comparison.
Prepare your channel and schedule the stream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If you have never enabled live streaming, activation can take up to 24 hours. - In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream you plan to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into the matching fields in your encoder or cloud service.
- Keep the stream key private: it allows an encoder to send a feed to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview and stream status before making the broadcast public.
- Check the video and audio, confirm the stream is accessible as intended, and verify the archive file when one is created.
YouTube supports reusing stream settings, but the key should still be handled like a credential. The exact controls may vary as YouTube Studio changes, so use the current Live Control Room labels and the platform’s setup help.
Choose where the encoder runs
- Software on a computer: The computer runs the encoder and sends the feed. You are responsible for keeping the computer, network connection, and encoder session operating and for responding to problems.
- Dedicated hardware encoder: A separate device sends the feed. YouTube recognizes hardware encoders as an option, but does not require a particular device; its help also notes that expensive equipment is not necessary to get started.
- Cloud streaming service: A service handles the feed in the cloud. YouTube’s encoder help currently lists Gyre for continuous prerecorded-video streaming. Confirm the service’s present features, terms, recovery process, and price directly with the provider.
Compare options by asking where the feed runs, who checks it, how it recovers from a connection or service problem, and whether its archive and backup process meets your needs. No method should be treated as interruption-proof unless its provider makes a claim you have independently verified.

Clear the rights to everything in the video
Calling a video “original” does not necessarily mean you hold the rights to every element it contains. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for use on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights, and require compliance with Community Guidelines and applicable laws in the territory where the stream is available. Review the YouTube Terms of Service before broadcasting.
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the material. If the match remains unresolved, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. The process is described in YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

If you have permission to use third-party material, coordinate with the rights owner to have your channel added to its Content ID allowlist before going live. A licence alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted; geographic restrictions alone do not resolve that issue. Monitor YouTube Studio for copyright warnings or strikes while the stream is running.
Understand the archive limit and keep your own files
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish what will happen to one continuous stream longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on a longer broadcast being saved as a complete replay. Keep the original video files and confirm that any archive created is complete and usable. Consult YouTube’s current encoder and archiving guidance for the handling that applies to your stream.

Monetization is not automatic
Eligible channels may be able to use ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, or memberships on live streams, subject to feature availability. YouTube does not guarantee that ads will serve in every stream. Its YouTube Partner Program monetization policies also apply to live streams. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified and renamed its “repetitious content” policy as “inauthentic content”; repetitive or mass-produced material remains ineligible under the existing policy. Owning the source video does not by itself establish that an indefinitely looped broadcast qualifies for monetization, and the policy does not decide an individual channel’s eligibility.
