You can stream TV shows on a 24/7 YouTube channel only if you have the rights to rebroadcast them—or another valid legal basis to do so. A streaming subscription, DVD, or purchased digital copy does not by itself grant public retransmission rights. Before choosing software or paying for a service, clear the programming and confirm the rights holder has allowlisted your channel through Content ID where needed.
Can you stream TV shows on YouTube?
Only when you are legally entitled to transmit the shows. YouTube’s Terms say users may use Service content only as YouTube expressly authorizes or with prior written permission from YouTube and, where applicable, the rights holder. Content you submit must not include third-party intellectual property unless you have permission or are otherwise legally entitled to use it. YouTube Terms of Service

Owning a copy or paying to watch a show is not the same as having permission to broadcast it to the public. A practical 24/7 schedule should be built from programming you created, programming licensed for your planned use, or other content you are legally entitled to transmit.
Check what your permission actually covers
Ask the rights holder to confirm in writing that your planned use is permitted. The agreement should address the specific titles and, as applicable, territories, duration, platforms, live transmission, monetization, and whether the stream may be archived or made available on demand. Permission to use a show in one context does not establish that every other use is covered. The scope depends on the actual agreement and applicable law.

Get Content ID allowlisting confirmed
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If YouTube identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop streaming the content. If it remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated; a copyright strike can also end it. YouTube warns that a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel has not been added to the rights holder’s Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights holder to confirm allowlisting before testing. YouTube Help: live-streaming restrictions
Make sure your channel can go live
Before planning a continuous broadcast, check your channel’s live-stream status in YouTube Studio and verify that it is eligible. YouTube’s live-stream starter guidance, accessed in 2026, says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. The same guidance lists a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These platform rules can change, so confirm the current requirements on YouTube’s live-streaming starter page before setup.

Set up a cleared 24/7 show stream yourself
YouTube supports going live with an encoder. OBS is one software option; its official help portal provides streaming and encoding guidance and says OBS is free to use. YouTube and OBS do not establish a universal computer, capture-card, or camera requirement for a 24/7 shows channel. Choose a workflow that fits your cleared content and production needs—equipment cannot solve a rights problem. OBS Help
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Clear the catalog. List every show or video in the planned schedule. Confirm in writing that you may use each item for the intended live broadcast, territory, term, and any monetization or archive you plan. If permission is unclear, leave the item out.
- Confirm platform readiness. Verify the channel and check its live-stream eligibility and restrictions in YouTube Studio. Ask the rights holder to allowlist the channel through Content ID where necessary, then confirm that step is complete before a test broadcast.
- Prepare the schedule and monitoring plan. Arrange only cleared programming, and decide who will monitor the broadcast and respond if the encoder or network connection drops. Agree with the rights holder on permitted live and archived uses; the terms of your agreement govern what you may retain or make available later.
- Connect an encoder. Follow YouTube’s current encoder workflow and the chosen software’s streaming guide to connect the channel and start a test. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe one universal resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval, or hardware configuration for this use case, so do not treat a particular setting as a rights or eligibility workaround.
- Test before scheduling continuous operation. Confirm that the stream appears correctly in YouTube, the intended cleared content is playing, and you can detect and recover from an interruption. Keep the rights holder’s allowlisting confirmation and license details accessible to the people operating the channel.
If YouTube stops the stream
Do not try to evade an active restriction by moving the same broadcast to another channel. YouTube says using another channel to stream while a restriction is active is prohibited circumvention.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- A placeholder appears or a warning asks you to stop: YouTube may have matched third-party content. Stop the affected content and check the stream status and notices in YouTube Studio. Confirm the license covers the use and ask the rights holder to check Content ID allowlisting.
- The live stream is interrupted or terminated: Check YouTube Studio for a copyright strike or live-stream restriction. A match to another copyrighted live broadcast is also among the reasons YouTube may turn off live-stream access. Resolve the underlying rights or restriction issue rather than restarting the same material elsewhere.
- You believe the content is cleared: Review the written permission and contact the rights holder to verify the exact channel and content are covered and allowlisted. A license alone does not guarantee uninterrupted delivery.
See YouTube Help on copyright strikes for platform guidance. Whether a particular show, copy, territory, or agreement permits your broadcast depends on the actual rights documents and relevant jurisdiction; country-specific licensing obligations are not settled by YouTube’s general help pages. Seek qualified legal advice where needed.
