Can an Android phone run a 24/7 sleep-sounds stream?
An Android phone can start a YouTube mobile live if the channel and device meet YouTube’s requirements. That does not establish that the phone will stay connected, powered, cool, and streaming without interruption for a full day. YouTube’s mobile instructions describe a general mobile-live workflow, not an unattended 24/7 system. The cited guidance does not specify battery, heat, network, or background-app behavior for this use case.

There is also an archive limitation: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. So a single continuous broadcast is not a dependable way to create a complete 24-hour replay. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
Check mobile live eligibility before setting up
- Your channel has at least 50 subscribers.
- Your channel is verified and live streaming is enabled.
- Your channel has not had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days.
- Your device runs Android 8.0 or later.
- If this is your first mobile live, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
These are YouTube’s stated mobile-live requirements; check the current YouTube mobile live streaming guidance if a requirement or screen differs in your app.

Start a sleep-sounds live from the YouTube app
- Prepare the audio. Choose the sleep sounds you intend to play and confirm that you have rights for live streaming and any replay or archive. Do not assume that audio is safe to use because it is labeled “relaxing,” is freely available, or is already online.
- Open the live flow. In the YouTube app, tap Create, then Live.
- Enter the stream details. Add the title, audience and other available details. Make clear that this is a sleep-sounds stream and avoid claims about uninterrupted operation or a complete replay unless you can substantiate them.
- Start the broadcast. Review the details and begin the live stream. YouTube also offers a scheduling flow for mobile lives; select the calendar option when you want to schedule rather than start immediately.
YouTube’s mobile live instructions cover starting and scheduling a general mobile broadcast. They do not document a phone-only method for keeping sleep audio live unattended around the clock.
Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder; if the issue remains, the broadcast can be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also says a creator is responsible for having the necessary rights, including music licenses. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the live stream to avoid interruption. - Get permission or a license that specifically covers the audio’s use in a YouTube live stream.
- Check whether the permission also covers an archived or replayed stream.
- Keep records of the license or permission and any Content ID allowlisting confirmation.
- If you cannot establish the rights for the exact audio and intended uses, choose different sounds before going live.
Plan for the archive separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends making a local recording as a backup. For sleep-sounds programming, decide whether a replay matters before choosing a continuous stream: do not rely on one 24-hour live to produce a complete archive. YouTube’s wording is deliberately qualified—an over-12-hour stream may not be captured—so it is not a guarantee that every such stream will be lost or saved. Read YouTube’s archive guidance.

YouTube describes mobile streaming as a way to go live from a mobile device, while encoder streaming is aimed at advanced production and external audio/video hardware. If you need a persistent feed, investigate an encoder or cloud workflow and verify its current continuity and recovery features directly; the existence of an encoder does not itself establish 24/7 reliability. The Live option is missing or activation will not complete
Check that the channel meets the subscriber, verification, restriction and live-enabled requirements, and that the phone runs Android 8.0 or later. If you just enabled mobile live for the first time, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Review the eligibility guidance.

The phone stops broadcasting
The cited YouTube mobile documentation does not establish that an Android phone can stream unattended for 24 hours or identify a guaranteed fix for battery, heat, network or app-background interruptions. Treat a phone live as a mobile broadcast, not a proven continuous-stream system. If uninterrupted programming is essential, compare encoder or cloud options and verify how each provider handles dropped connections.

The stream is interrupted after an audio match
A match may trigger a placeholder or interruption, and a continuing issue can terminate the live. Stop and resolve the rights issue rather than repeatedly restarting with the same audio. Confirm the license covers live use and check whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel. YouTube’s live copyright guidance.

The replay is missing or incomplete
Check YouTube’s archive guidance and the stream’s duration. Under-12-hour streams can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A local recording is YouTube’s recommended backup when an archive matters. Archive live streams.
