To keep relaxing music playing after one song or video file ends, send a continuous program from a streaming encoder rather than relying on a single finite file. Put the music in a source or playlist configured to loop or continue, pair it with a still image if you do not need moving visuals, and keep the encoder sending content. YouTube’s general encoder instructions do not specify how to loop media; that setting depends on the encoder or player you choose.
How the continuous-stream setup works
YouTube Live receives the program sent by your encoder. The encoder can keep sending audio and a visual scene even after an individual track ends, provided its playback source is set to continue or repeat. A still image can supply the visual while the music plays.
There are two distinct things to configure: YouTube’s live connection, using its server URL and stream key, and your encoder or player’s media playback behavior. Connecting successfully does not by itself make a song loop.
Set up a YouTube Live stream with looping music
- Create the stream: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. YouTube’s guide is Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the Live server URL and stream key shown for the stream into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the new key.
- Build the program: Add your music source and, if desired, a still image as the visual scene. Configure the playback source or playlist to loop or continue when a track ends. Check the documentation for your specific encoder or player; loop controls and playlist behavior vary, and YouTube does not prescribe a particular control.
- Preview before going public: Confirm that audio is audible, the image appears as intended, and playback continues into the next track or repeats as expected. Check levels and listen for silence, clipping, or an abrupt transition.
- Start and monitor the stream: Start sending the program from the encoder and check YouTube’s preview and stream status. Keep an eye on audio and video quality while live, especially after changing sources or playlists.
- End it deliberately: When you want the broadcast to stop, stop sending content from the encoder and end the stream in Live Control Room as appropriate. YouTube’s guidance states, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.”
Choose an encoder that supports your playback workflow
A software encoder is an option for a basic music-and-still-image broadcast. The important requirement is not a particular brand: verify that the encoder, media player, or connected source can keep a playlist running or repeat the track, and test that behavior before relying on it. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but its guidance does not make dedicated hardware necessary for a basic static-image-and-audio stream.

A dedicated hardware encoder is an optional route if your production needs justify it. Before buying one, check that the specific model supports the streaming protocol and audio input you need, and that it works with your intended looping source. No particular model or price is established here.
Protect the music rights and avoid live interruptions
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to stream the music. A song being labeled “free,” or having purchased a copy, does not by itself establish permission for a YouTube livestream. Use original music, public-domain music, or music for which you have explicit permission covering the actual live transmission. Check whether the license also covers your intended territories, any saved archive, and monetization.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, YouTube says, “If the third-party content remains in your stream, your live stream will be temporarily interrupted or terminated.” Even a third-party license may not prevent a Content ID interruption if the rightsholder has not allowlisted your channel. Confirm allowlisting requirements with the licensor before going live.
YouTube points creators to its Audio Library, Creator Music in certain regions, original music, and third-party sources. Check the current terms for any music you use; availability and license terms can vary. StreamNeo also provides a copyright safety checklist to help review permissions before streaming.

Plan for archives and long broadcasts
YouTube says automatic archiving is available for streams under 12 hours. For a stream exceeding 12 hours, its guidance warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If retaining a recording matters, make a separate local recording rather than treating YouTube’s archive as guaranteed for a longer broadcast.
Troubleshoot a stream that stops or goes silent
- The broadcast ends when one track finishes: The encoder is still connected, but the media source may have reached the end of its playlist. Enable loop or continuous playback in the chosen source, then test past the end of a track.
- The stream never appears in YouTube: Recheck that the encoder has the correct Live server URL and stream key for the stream you created. If the key was exposed, reset it and replace it in the encoder.
- The video is present but there is no music: Check that the intended audio source is active in the encoder scene, that its playback is not paused or muted, and that audio is reaching the preview before going public.
- The live program is interrupted after a copyright warning: Stop and resolve the rights issue rather than repeatedly restarting with the same material. Confirm that the license covers live streaming and ask whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting.
- The long stream has no YouTube archive: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording when you need a dependable copy.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube-only stream built from uploaded videos, StreamNeo keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded content, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
