Before setup, confirm that your channel is eligible for live streaming and that you have permission for every part of the music video. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and even licensed music may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID.
What you need before setting up the stream
- A Google account and a YouTube channel with live streaming enabled.
- A Livepush account.
- A music video cleared for the intended live use, territory and duration, plus any required Content ID allowlisting.
First-time YouTube live access can take up to 24 hours to activate. YouTube for Artists advises enabling and verifying live streaming at least 24 hours before the planned broadcast, so complete this check well ahead of the event. YouTube for Artists: Going Live for Music Channels

Choose how to connect YouTube to Livepush
Livepush documents two ways to configure YouTube as a destination. The choice affects account authorization and repeat setup, not YouTube’s copyright rules.

| Method | How it works | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Connect a YouTube account | Authorize the account in Livepush, choose a channel, then select or create an event. Livepush says it can retrieve that event’s RTMP settings automatically. | Convenient for event setup, but requires linking the YouTube account to Livepush. |
| Enter a stream key manually | Create or schedule the event in YouTube Studio, copy its RTMP stream key, and enter it in Livepush’s YouTube configuration. | Does not link the channel, but each event needs its own configuration; YouTube comments will not appear in Livepush Multi Chat. |
Set up a connected YouTube account
- Open the stream in Livepush. In the Livepush dashboard, open the relevant stream under Live Input or Pre-recorded Live.
- Add YouTube. Choose Add Destination, then select YouTube.
- Authorize and select a channel. Link the Google/YouTube account and choose the channel that will host the broadcast.
- Select or create an event. Choose an existing live event or create one, then enter its title and description and set its privacy.
- Save and enable the destination. Save the YouTube destination and turn it on when you are ready to distribute the stream.
Livepush’s guide describes automatic retrieval of the event’s RTMP settings when you connect the account. Its dashboard labels and workflow can change; consult the current Livepush YouTube Live Streaming guide if a control differs.

Set up YouTube with a manual RTMP stream key
- Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, set up the live event you intend to use.
- Copy the event’s stream key. Use the RTMP stream key shown for that event in YouTube Studio. Treat the key as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your event.
- Configure Livepush. Return to the Livepush stream, add YouTube as a destination, and enter the key in the YouTube configuration.
- Save the destination. Confirm the event and destination settings before turning it on.
With the manual route, configure each event again. Livepush also says YouTube comments will not appear in its Multi Chat overlay when using this method. See the Livepush manual YouTube setup guide.
Choose an input for the music video
Livepush describes webcam input, prerecorded MP4 input and publishing through an encoder or device. For a prepared music video, use the prerecorded-video workflow; an encoder such as OBS is an option when you need an encoder-based publishing setup. YouTube for Artists presents an encoder as a way to gain more customization and control, not as a requirement for every live broadcast. The cited setup guidance does not establish a mandatory hardware encoder, microphone or other accessory.

Clear music-video rights before going live
The language of the song or video does not change YouTube’s copyright rules. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If it detects third-party content, YouTube may show a warning or place a placeholder image over the stream. If the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated; a copyright strike can also end a stream. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

Confirm what your permission covers
Before scheduling the event, check with the actual rights holders or their representatives—such as the label, distributor or other relevant owner—about the planned live use. Confirm the scope for each relevant audio and video element, including the intended territory and duration. Owning a copy of a video, crediting the artist or restricting the audience geographically does not, by itself, establish that you have permission.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
A license alone may not prevent a live interruption. YouTube says creators using licensed third-party content should ask the owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube for Artists likewise recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when planning to use copyright-protected music. Confirm whether allowlisting is needed for your channel before the broadcast; do not assume that a license will automatically prevent Content ID enforcement.
