How to Stream Property Tours Continuously on YouTube With OBS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To stream a property tour on YouTube with OBS, send a camera or prerecorded video feed from OBS to a YouTube Live event, check the preview and stream health, then select Go Live in YouTube Live Control Room. For a broadcast longer than 12 hours, plan a local recording and manual upload if you need an archive: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but advises production teams to record longer streams themselves.

Choose the kind of property tour first

“Continuous” can mean a live camera feed running for hours, a moving walk-through, or prerecorded footage playing repeatedly. Choose the source before building scenes: each needs different framing and operation. OBS sends the video and audio; YouTube Live Control Room creates and controls the broadcast.

  • Fixed live view: A stationary camera can show a room or other fixed viewpoint. YouTube supports webcam streaming, but a fixed camera is not suited to a moving walk-through.
  • Moving live walk-through: Use a camera setup that can move through the property. Build and preview scenes for the views and transitions you intend to show.
  • Prerecorded tour: Prepare the video as an OBS source and determine how it will repeat or transition to another scene. The available guidance does not establish a specific continuous-playback plugin or automated looping workflow, so test your chosen method before relying on it for a long broadcast.

Before streaming a property, obtain the necessary permissions and content clearances for the live broadcast and any replay. Consider whether people, identifying details, or private conversations may be visible or audible. Permission and disclosure requirements depend on location; this is practical production guidance, not legal advice.

Prepare OBS and choose stable stream settings

  1. Build your scenes and sources. Add the tour source, and consider a title or holding scene for periods when the property view is unavailable. Check scene changes and audio before the public broadcast. OBS recommends testing scenes and settings ahead of a first live stream.
  2. Choose resolution and frame rate to suit the tour and connection. More detail or smoother movement can require more bitrate and encoder capacity. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations are 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are platform recommendations, not guarantees that your internet connection or computer can sustain those settings.
  3. Set the encoder output. YouTube documents RTMP or RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS. For the H.264 bitrate recommendations, allow connection headroom and test rather than treating the listed bitrate as a minimum guaranteed to work.
  4. Test with representative content. Use a speed test, then check the stream with similar movement and audio to the real tour. Watch the image, sound, encoder load, OBS dropped frames and YouTube stream health. A yellow or red OBS connection indicator or increasing dropped frames can mean the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate.

For exact encoder guidance, see YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrate and resolution recommendations and the OBS Studio Overview Guide.

Create the YouTube Live event and connect OBS

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Enter its title and description, and choose the intended privacy setting.
  2. Copy the stream key for that event and enter it in OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your event.
  3. Start streaming from OBS. YouTube’s production workflow starts the encoder first so the Live Control Room can receive the feed and display a preview.
  4. Check the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm the framing, sound, and selected privacy setting.
  5. When the preview is ready, press Go Live in Live Control Room. OBS sending video does not, by itself, make the event public.

For the platform’s setup overview, see YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming and Google’s Full Live Production guide.

Plan the broadcast format, monitoring and archive

Horizontal and vertical viewers

YouTube supports horizontal and vertical live streams. Its documented dual-stream setup uses a shared stream URL and chat. Decide on the format before going live: the vertical format cannot be added after the stream begins. A wide room tour may need a different crop or layout in vertical video, so preview both formats beforehand if you use dual streaming.

Long runs need an operator and an archive plan

Assign someone to watch the video, audio, network and chat during a public broadcast. Decide how you will end or hand off the tour, and where recordings will be stored. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; for streams longer than 12 hours, Google’s production guide advises recording the program and uploading it manually if you need a replay. Do not assume one YouTube archive will preserve an unlimited broadcast.

Clear live and replay rights

Google’s production guide calls for necessary clearances for the live stream, rebroadcast and on-demand audio or video. Check that you have permission for any music, footage or other material in the tour, as well as appropriate permission to film the property and people who may appear. Copyright and property privacy rules vary by jurisdiction.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • YouTube does not show a preview: Check that OBS is sending to the stream key for the correct event and that the encoder has started. Wait for the feed in Live Control Room before pressing Go Live.
  • The event is not public: Sending from OBS is not the same as publishing the event. Check its privacy setting and press Go Live in Live Control Room when you are ready.
  • OBS shows dropped frames or an unstable connection: Compare the configured bitrate with the tested upload connection. Lower the bitrate or resolution, allow more connection headroom, and retest with representative movement and audio.
  • The image stutters during a walk-through: Review the resolution, frame rate, bitrate and encoder load together. A lower stable setting is preferable to a higher setting that the connection or computer cannot sustain.
  • The vertical version is missing: YouTube’s dual-stream vertical format must be planned before the stream begins; it cannot be added mid-broadcast.
  • The replay ends before the broadcast: YouTube’s archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours. For a longer run, make a local recording and upload it manually if a complete replay is required.
