To stream a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live event over BSNL broadband, play the file through an encoder such as OBS Studio, then send the encoder’s output to a YouTube Live stream URL and stream key. Measure your actual upload speed before choosing quality: your BSNL plan’s advertised download speed does not tell you how much upload bandwidth a live stream can use.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel that is eligible to go live. If this is the channel’s first live stream, enable live streaming in advance; YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. A channel must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements explain eligibility.
- The prerecorded video file and an encoder. OBS Studio is one software option listed in YouTube’s encoder setup guide; this task does not inherently require buying hardware.
- A stable BSNL broadband upload connection, a way to measure its upload performance, and the rights to stream the video and audio.
Set up YouTube Live and get the stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live. Create a stream or schedule one from the Manage tab in Live Control Room.
- For a scheduled stream, set its title, visibility, and start time. Scheduling creates a watch page that you can share, and viewers can opt to receive reminders.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. Enter these in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly. You can manage or reset stream keys in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Measure BSNL upload and choose a sustainable quality
Run a speed test and pay attention to upload speed, not just download speed. Test at the time and from the place you expect to stream, then run a representative encoder test with audio and movement similar to the finished program. YouTube recommends checking stream health and its messages while testing. A wired connection can help you distinguish Wi-Fi trouble from other issues, but it cannot fix a line, routing, or plan limitation.

The following are YouTube’s H.264 encoder bitrate recommendations, not promises about BSNL performance. Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain consistently; leave headroom rather than setting the encoder at the highest speed a brief test reports.

These figures are YouTube’s guidance for H.264 ingest. If the upload connection is inconsistent, reduce the video bitrate or resolution and test again. Check your current BSNL plan terms for your location; there is no single upload speed or guarantee established here for every BSNL customer.

Configure the encoder for YouTube
For a broadly compatible setup, use H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube’s guidance says the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. YouTube accepts H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS, supports frame rates up to 60 fps, and lists AAC or MP3 audio. Choose RTMPS rather than RTMP when your encoder offers it; RTMPS encrypts the connection to YouTube’s servers. See YouTube’s recommended live encoder settings.
In the encoder, add the prerecorded file as the video source (in OBS, this is typically a media source), set the output resolution, frame rate, video bitrate, audio, and keyframe interval, then enter the YouTube stream URL and key. Confirm that the file plays from the beginning and that its audio is present before starting the broadcast.

Start the broadcast and monitor it
- Start streaming in the encoder. Keep the encoder and video playback running; the prerecorded file is being sent as a live signal, not uploaded as a regular YouTube video.
- Wait for the incoming video preview and stream-health status in YouTube Live Control Room. Check for dropped frames, connection warnings, and audio issues.
- When the preview and stream health look right, click Go live in Live Control Room. If you scheduled the event, start it at the planned time.
- At the end of the file, stop the stream in the encoder and end the event in Live Control Room. Verify that the broadcast has ended before closing the encoder.
Check copyright and decide whether to keep an archive
You need the rights to all video and audio in both the live transmission and any saved archive. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed material may require the rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions state that creators must have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights.
YouTube can automatically archive a live stream that is under 12 hours, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping the complete event matters, record and retain a local copy. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Confirm the channel is verified and eligible, and that live streaming has been enabled. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours; check for a live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days.
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Check that the encoder is running, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the file is playing as the encoder’s source. If needed, reset the key in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- The stream buffers or drops frames: Recheck actual upload performance, lower the encoder bitrate, or step down from 1080p to 720p or 480p. Test again with representative motion and audio. A wired connection can help isolate Wi-Fi issues.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Review the matched material and confirm that you have live-stream and archive rights. If the material is licensed, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted through Content ID.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: A stream over 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable full copy.
