To stream podcast episodes continuously on YouTube with OBS, add a local episode—or a VLC playlist of episodes—as a looping media source, connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream with its stream URL and key, then monitor the broadcast and your internet connection. A computer-based setup depends on that computer, power and upload connection staying available. Plan the archive separately: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so don’t assume one 24-hour broadcast will become a complete replay.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. The channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help, so do this in advance: YouTube encoder setup.
- OBS Studio and podcast episode files stored on the computer that will run the broadcast.
- A stable upload connection with enough capacity for the stream and other network use.
- Permission to livestream and archive every recording, music track, clip, image or other material included in the program.
You don’t need a costly production setup to get started, but the computer and connection are part of the broadcast chain: if either stops, OBS may stop sending the stream.
How to set up a 24/7 podcast stream in OBS
1. Enable YouTube live streaming
- Sign in to YouTube and complete channel verification if needed.
- Enable livestreaming in YouTube Studio and allow time for first-time activation, which YouTube says can take up to 24 hours.
- Check that the channel is eligible and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s minimum age for livestreaming is 16.
2. Prepare an episode or playlist
In OBS, add a Media Source for a single local episode and enable Loop if that file should repeat. For a sequence of episodes, add a VLC Video source, choose the files for its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS documents the Media Source loop setting as controlling whether the file plays again when playback completes: OBS Project: Media Sources.
The VLC Video source requires VLC installed on the same computer. Match architectures: OBS documentation specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. Keep the source in the active scene and test transitions between episodes before going live. A playlist that reaches its end without looping will no longer provide the intended continuous program.

3. Create the YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the encoder settings.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube or the applicable custom service configuration, and enter the URL and key. Exact labels can vary by OBS version and service selection.
- Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Start streaming in OBS. Inspect the Live Control Room preview and use its Go live control if the stream configuration requires it.

4. Set upload capacity and test the full chain
Measure upload speed rather than inferring it from download speed. YouTube says the total outgoing stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Also account for other people and devices using the connection. In YouTube’s words: “Have enough bandwidth: The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available. Test the actual OBS scene, episode audio, playlist behaviour, network and YouTube preview before relying on the setup. For a fixed computer, Ethernet is a practical connection option if the computer and router have compatible ports and the cable reaches; it is not a guarantee against outages.
How do I loop podcast episodes on YouTube Live with OBS?
Choose the source that fits the program: use Media Source with Loop for one episode, or VLC Video with Loop Playlist for multiple episodes. Confirm that the source is visible in the active scene and that audio is audible in the YouTube preview. The playlist order is the broadcast order, so arrange files before starting and verify playback at the point where it should wrap back to the beginning.

Can I run a 24/7 YouTube live stream from OBS?
OBS can send a continuous encoder feed while its computer, power and internet connection remain available, and a looping media source can supply prerecorded episodes. That is not the same as a guarantee of uninterrupted service: plan to notice a stopped encoder, lost internet, power interruption or playlist ending, and have a way to restart or restore the broadcast.
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours ahead of a scheduled event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. For a continuous channel, apply the same principle by testing well before the intended start, checking the preview and verifying that viewers can reach the event. Continue monitoring audio and video, and watch local disk usage if recording an archive.

Plan the replay and archive separately
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That rule does not promise a complete archive for a single 24-hour broadcast. If complete replays matter, divide the service into shorter broadcasts and verify the channel’s current archive controls before publishing. Shorter sessions mean more start-and-stop management; one long session may be simpler for continuity but should not be treated as a guaranteed complete replay.

Only include podcast audio, music, video, artwork and clips when you have the rights needed for the intended livestream and any resulting archive. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. Its guidance states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match may replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Archived livestreams may also receive Content ID claims after completion. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to represent that it has the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights, and has met applicable requirements in the territory of the stream. India’s Copyright Office publishes statutory text concerning broadcasting-organisation rights, but that text alone does not determine which permissions apply to a particular YouTube podcast stream. Check rights for each recording and seek qualified Indian legal advice for fact-specific questions; do not assume a broadcast-related statutory route automatically covers YouTube streaming.
