PlayStation Plus Premium lets you play eligible games from the cloud instead of downloading or installing them. On a PS5, PS4, or PC, open an eligible game listing and select the streaming option. On PlayStation Portal, select Cloud Streaming, choose a supported PS5 game, and launch it. You need an active Premium membership, a PlayStation account, a supported country, and a reliable internet connection.
What PlayStation Plus cloud streaming does
Cloud streaming runs the game on Sony’s remote servers and sends the video and audio to your device while your controller input travels back to the service. Because the game is not installed on your console, computer, or Portal, you can start playing without waiting for a large download or reserving local storage.

The feature is part of PlayStation Plus Premium. Sony describes Premium as providing access to a selection of games that can be played without downloading and installing them. “Selection” is important: Premium does not make every PlayStation game streamable, and availability can change by title, catalog, country, membership plan, and date.
What you need before starting
An active Premium membership
Cloud streaming requires PlayStation Plus Premium, not merely a PlayStation account. On Sony’s US page in 2026, Premium is listed at $19.99 per month, $54.99 for three months, or $159.99 for 12 months. These are recurring prices until you cancel, and prices and availability vary by market.

A PlayStation account
Sign in with the account that owns the Premium membership. Direct cloud streaming on PlayStation Portal is restricted to adult accounts and supported countries. A child account or an account in an unsupported country cannot use Portal’s direct cloud mode even if the hardware is otherwise compatible.
A supported destination
Sony lists PS5, PS4, PC, and PlayStation Portal as destinations for cloud streaming. Portal’s direct cloud feature is narrower than the other destinations: it currently supports select PS5 games, not PS4 or PS3 games.
A connection that meets Sony’s minimum
Sony says a streaming session needs at least 5 Mbps upload and 5 Mbps download to be established. Its resolution guidance lists these download targets:
Recommended Free Tools
| Target resolution | Sony-listed connection guidance |
|---|---|
| 720p | 7 Mbps |
| 1080p | 13 Mbps |
| 1080p recommended on Sony’s PS5 table | 23 Mbps |
| 1440p | 38 Mbps |
| 4K | 52 Mbps |
These figures are guidance rather than a promise of a fixed picture quality. The game, server conditions, Wi-Fi performance, congestion, and other activity on your connection can all affect the result. Upload speed matters as well as download speed because your inputs must reach the streaming service.
How to check whether a game can be streamed
Do not assume that a game is streamable because it appears in the PlayStation Plus catalog or because you own it digitally. Use Sony’s Cloud Streaming Game Finder, or open the game’s listing and look for a Stream button or equivalent streaming option.
Game Catalog and Classics Catalog
Selected PS5 titles in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog can be streamed. Catalog membership does not make the entire catalog permanent: games can leave the service and may have published end dates. Check the listing before beginning a long game or subscribing specifically for one title.
Games you purchased
Sony also supports selected digital PS5 games purchased from PlayStation Store or already present in your library. This is separate from the catalog selection. A digital purchase is not an automatic guarantee of cloud access; the title must be one of the games Sony has enabled for streaming.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFree-to-play games
Selected free-to-play titles are included among streamable games. The same eligibility check applies, so look for the streaming control rather than relying on a game’s free-to-play status.
Examples, not a permanent list
Sony’s November 2025 Portal announcement named examples such as Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, Resident Evil 4, Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Treat those as examples from that announcement, not as a guaranteed or permanent catalog. The current finder and the game’s listing are the authority for your account and country.
Start a stream on each supported device
PS5
- Sign in to the PlayStation account with the active Premium membership.
- Open the PlayStation Plus area or search for the game you want to play.
- Open the game’s listing and confirm that a streaming option is shown.
- Choose Stream instead of downloading or installing the game.
- Wait for the cloud session to establish, then play normally with the controller.
If the listing offers only a download option, the title is not currently streamable for that account, region, plan, or date. Installing it will not create a cloud-streaming option.

PS4
- Sign in with the Premium account.
- Open an eligible game listing in the PlayStation Plus interface.
- Select the streaming option rather than downloading the game.
- Allow the session to connect before beginning play.
The game must be eligible on the PS4 service. Portal’s PS5-only restriction does not change what can be available when you use a PS4, but the listing remains the final check.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
PC
- Use a PC destination supported by PlayStation’s cloud-streaming service and sign in to your PlayStation account.
- Open the PlayStation Plus game catalog or your library.
- Find a title marked for streaming.
- Select the streaming control and follow the on-screen connection prompts.
Sony lists PC as a supported destination but does not publish a particular Windows or macOS version, application name, or controller model. Use the current PlayStation software and account requirements shown for your country rather than relying on an older guide.
PlayStation Portal
- Sign in to an adult PlayStation account with Premium in a supported country.
- From the Portal home screen, choose Cloud Streaming.
- Browse or search for a compatible game.
- Select the title and launch it from the cloud.
For direct cloud streaming, the PS5 console can be powered off or occupied by another account. That is different from Remote Play, where Portal mirrors a game running on your own PS5. Cloud Streaming runs the eligible title remotely, so another person can use the PS5 while you play a supported game on Portal.
What Portal can and cannot stream directly
Portal’s cloud tab currently covers select PS5 games. It does not directly stream PS4 or PS3 games. The compatible set includes selected PS5 catalog and Classics titles, selected digital PS5 purchases in your library, and selected free-to-play games.
Sony’s 2025 announcement described thousands of PS5 games supported at launch, alongside hundreds of compatible catalog games. The number and exact list are not a permanent entitlement: titles can be added, removed, or restricted by country and membership status.

Progress follows you through cloud saves
When you stream, cloud saves are stored automatically. That allows progress to continue on another compatible device when the same account and game entitlement are available. A save does not bypass a game’s eligibility rules; if a title leaves the catalog or is unavailable in your region, the account still needs another valid way to access it.
DLC and add-ons are not supported while streaming
Sony says downloadable content and add-ons are not supported while streaming a title. If a game’s experience depends on an expansion, cosmetic pack, or other add-on, the streamed session may not provide that content even when the base game is eligible.
Catalog departures matter
A catalog game can have an end date or leave the service. Starting a stream does not permanently add the game to your library. For a game you intend to play over many weeks, check its current listing and any departure notice before choosing Premium for that purpose.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to improve an unreliable stream
Start with the minimum checks rather than changing several settings at once:
- Run a connection test and verify at least 5 Mbps in both directions. If you want higher-resolution guidance, compare your download result with Sony’s 7, 13, 23, 38, or 52 Mbps figures.
- Pause large downloads, uploads, video streams, and cloud backups on the same network while testing.
- Move the streaming device closer to the wireless router or use a wired connection where your device supports one.
- Close the cloud session and start it again if the image stops updating or input response becomes erratic.
- Try another eligible game. If one title works and another does not, the problem may be game-specific or related to that title’s service availability.
- Check the game finder again if the Stream button disappears. Eligibility can change without a hardware change.
- Confirm that the account is an adult account and that the country is supported when testing Portal direct cloud mode.
Higher bandwidth alone cannot guarantee a perfect session. Sony notes that actual quality varies with the game and network, so a speed test is a starting point, not a certification.

Premium price context in the United States
| Billing term | US price listed by Sony in 2026 | Billing behavior |
|---|---|---|
| One month | $19.99 | Recurring until canceled |
| Three months | $54.99 | Recurring until canceled |
| 12 months | $159.99 | Recurring until canceled |
These figures apply to Sony’s US page and can change. They should not be treated as a worldwide price or as a guarantee that every country offers the same billing terms. Cloud streaming access, catalog breadth, classics, trials, and supported countries are plan- and region-dependent.
Which streaming destination fits you?
| Destination | What Sony lists | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | Cloud streaming is available for eligible listings; choose streaming instead of installing. | Players who want a console experience and do not want to wait for downloads. |
| PS4 | Cloud streaming is available for eligible listings. | Players using an existing PS4 with supported Premium titles. |
| PC | PC is a supported cloud-streaming destination. | Players who prefer a computer screen and compatible controls. |
| PlayStation Portal | Direct cloud mode supports select PS5 games; the PS5 may be off or used by another account. | Portable play when the title is in Portal’s compatible PS5 selection. |
All four options depend on a suitable connection and an eligible game. Portal is the only destination in this table with an explicitly stated direct-cloud generation limit: PS5 games only.
Common questions before subscribing
Can I stream a PS Plus game without downloading it?
Yes, if the game is eligible and you have Premium. Open its listing and choose the streaming option. If no Stream control appears, you must use another supported access method or choose a different title.
Can I use Portal cloud streaming without owning a PS5?
Portal’s direct cloud mode does not require the PS5 to be powered on or available to you during the session. You still need Premium, an adult account, a supported country, a compatible PS5 game, and a network that can establish the stream.
Does Premium stream every game in the catalog?
No. Streaming is limited to selected titles, and eligibility changes by game, region, country, plan, and time.
Can I stream PS4 or PS3 games on Portal?
Not through Portal’s direct cloud mode as currently described by Sony. Portal supports select PS5 games for direct cloud streaming.
Will my DLC work in a streamed game?
Sony says DLC and add-ons are not supported while streaming a title.
Will my save carry over?
Cloud saves are automatically stored while streaming, so progress can continue on another compatible device when the same game and entitlement are available.
Bottom line
To play without downloading, join PlayStation Plus Premium, verify the title in Sony’s Cloud Streaming Game Finder or on its game page, and select Stream on PS5, PS4, or PC. On Portal, use Cloud Streaming and choose a compatible PS5 game. Check your country, account type, connection speed, game eligibility, catalog end dates, and the lack of DLC support before relying on cloud streaming for a particular game.
