You can configure a 720p, 30 fps YouTube music livestream with a modest, steady upload connection—but no bitrate or encoder setting guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. First secure rights to every recording and composition, then configure the encoder, test the full setup, and arrange monitoring and recovery. YouTube can interrupt even licensed music if the channel is not allowlisted by the rights holder.
Before anything else, clear the music rights
Do not build a continuous stream around music unless you have permission for the exact use. A song may involve separate rights in its underlying musical work and its sound recording. Permission should cover each track, YouTube livestreaming, the territories where viewers may watch, and—if you plan to keep the replay—the archived recording too.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can replace the image, show a warning, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. YouTube says a licence by itself may not prevent this: the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor when using protected music. Decide whether to keep an archive
Archived livestreams can receive Content ID claims after the broadcast ends. Check that your permission covers the recorded video as well as the live transmission, including its territories and availability period, before enabling or retaining an archive. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Choose 720p settings and estimate the upload you need
For a low-bandwidth starting point, use 1280 × 720 at 30 frames per second. YouTube’s published encoder guidance recommends 8 Mbps for 720p30 H.264, or 6 Mbps for 720p30 AV1/H.265. These are recommended encoder-to-YouTube ingestion bitrates, not a promise that an internet plan advertised at the same speed will sustain the stream. Measure upload performance at the actual streaming location and time, and leave headroom for variation and other network use. A connection that only occasionally reaches the target is not a dependable basis for unattended streaming.

Use the recommended bitrate rather than treating a lower minimum in YouTube’s table as the target for stable quality. The video bitrate is not the whole connection requirement: the encoder also sends audio and protocol overhead, while unrelated traffic and upload fluctuations can reduce available capacity. Configure the encoder and connect it to YouTube
- Prepare a rights-cleared programme. Assemble only tracks covered by your permissions. If you plan to archive the stream, verify replay rights before enabling an archive.
- Create the YouTube livestream. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and use its stream key and ingest details in your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, share it publicly, or leave it in a visible screenshot. YouTube’s setup interface and available options can change; follow the current live-control-room prompts.
- Set the video output. Choose 1280 × 720 at 30 fps, a supported codec, and constant bitrate (CBR). Start at YouTube’s recommended 8 Mbps for H.264 or 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265. Set keyframes to 2 seconds and never above 4 seconds.
- Set audio consistently. Choose stereo AAC or MP3. YouTube’s advanced guidance lists 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps for stereo. If you configure a backup encoder, match its audio codec, sample rate, and bitrate to avoid changes during recovery.
- Prefer a stable wired connection. Use RTMPS if the encoder offers it. Where practical, connect the streaming device by Ethernet and measure sustained upload performance at the place and time it will run.
- Run a representative test before launch. Test with the actual audio and movement you expect to broadcast, and check YouTube’s stream health and messages. Confirm the rights holder has allowlisted the channel, not merely issued a licence.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Keep a responsible person able to respond to encoder, power, network, stream-health, and copyright problems. Define how to restart the encoder and reconnect using the correct YouTube stream details.
Make “24/7” an operating plan, not a guarantee
A configured encoder can send a continuous programme, but YouTube’s published guidance does not guarantee that one broadcast will remain live indefinitely or establish here a maximum duration for a single stream. Treat 24/7 as the service schedule you are trying to maintain, not a promise of zero interruption. A computer-based setup depends on power, cooling, the encoder staying healthy, and an internet connection that remains available; a person or documented recovery process must be able to respond when one of those fails.
