How to Stream Hindi Devotional Videos 24/7 to YouTube with FFmpeg on a Raspberry Pi

You can loop a Hindi devotional video from a Raspberry Pi to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, but uninterrupted 24/7 streaming depends on more than the command: the Pi must sustain the chosen encode, the internet connection needs upload headroom, and the channel must have the rights to stream the video and music. Start with an eligible YouTube channel, a modest tested stream profile, and an unlisted test before relying on it.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance.
  • A Raspberry Pi with a compatible FFmpeg installation, reliable power, adequate cooling, and storage for the source video.
  • A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream plus headroom.
  • A devotional video and audio that you own or are authorized to livestream on YouTube.

Do not assume every Pi model or FFmpeg build can encode every source indefinitely. Raspberry Pi’s published technical note compares Pi 5 software encoding with a Pi 4 hardware-encoder configuration, but it does not guarantee continuous streaming performance for every setup: Raspberry Pi technical note.

Create a YouTube Live stream and protect the key

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live. In Live Control Room, create or schedule an encoder stream.
  2. Copy the stream server URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the workflow: Set up a live stream with an encoder.
  3. Keep the key private. Do not commit it to a public repository, paste it into a public support post, or share a script containing the key. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update your encoder.

Choose a stream profile the Pi can sustain

YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its encoder guidance recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings and match them to the actual encoder capability.

Setting Cautious starting point Why it matters
Video codec H.264 Widely supported by YouTube ingest and common FFmpeg builds.
Resolution and frame rate 720p at 30 fps, if the source and Pi sustain it A lower load than higher-resolution or higher-frame-rate profiles; it is a starting point, not a performance guarantee.
Video bitrate YouTube lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for H.264 720p30 These are YouTube’s platform values, not proof that a particular Pi can encode at that profile.
Rate control CBR YouTube recommends constant bitrate for the stream.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds Aligns with YouTube’s guidance.
Stereo audio AAC, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps YouTube’s advanced settings recommend these audio settings.

Leave roughly 20% upload headroom above the total stream bitrate, following YouTube’s network guidance. For example, if the configured total audio-plus-video bitrate is 3 Mbps, target at least about 3.6 Mbps of stable available upload capacity. This is a recommendation, not a guarantee for an unstable connection. See YouTube streaming tips.

Prepare the devotional video and confirm its rights

Check that the file plays locally, has the intended audio, and can be read by the installed FFmpeg build. Confirm that audio is mapped in the output; a video that looks correct locally can still go live without sound if the source has no audio stream or the output mapping is wrong.

You must have the rights to livestream both the video and its music. YouTube’s livestream terms say providers represent and warrant that they have necessary worldwide rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party matches; a match can trigger a placeholder, warning, interruption, or termination. Even licensed music may require the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s terms and its copyright guidance for live streams. This is not individualized legal advice.

Loop the file with FFmpeg and send it to YouTube

The following is a configuration template, not a tested command for every Raspberry Pi, media file, or FFmpeg build. Replace the ingest URL and key with the values from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private, and verify the command against the installed FFmpeg version before depending on it.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i devotional-video.mp4
  -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60
  -b:v 2500k -maxrate 2500k -bufsize 5000k
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
  -f flv 'rtmps://YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_PRIVATE_STREAM_KEY'
  • -re reads the file at approximately real-time speed rather than sending it as fast as possible.
  • -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely. FFmpeg option order matters; place input options before the relevant -i.
  • -c:v libx264 uses software H.264 encoding. This can be demanding on a small computer.
  • -r 30 sets 30 frames per second, and -g 60 sets a 60-frame GOP, corresponding to a two-second keyframe interval at 30 fps.
  • The example’s 2,500 kbps video bitrate is only a low-load starting value; compare it with YouTube’s current settings and the source quality. It is below YouTube’s listed 3 Mbps minimum for H.264 720p30, so do not treat it as meeting that profile’s recommendation.
  • -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 encodes stereo audio at the recommended sample rate and bitrate, assuming the source audio is suitable.

If the Pi cannot sustain software encoding, lower resolution or frame rate, or use compatible pre-encoded media with stream copy where appropriate. Stream copy avoids re-encoding but only works when the source codecs and parameters are accepted by YouTube and match the output needs. Hardware encoding availability depends on the Pi model, operating system, and FFmpeg build; do not assume the same encoder options exist on every device.

Vilros Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Basic Starter Kit with Fan-Cooled Heavy-Duty Aluminum Alloy Case
  • KEEP YOUR PROCESSOR COOL: The busier a processor gets the more it heats up, leading to sub-optimal performance. To prevent this common issue, this kit includes an aluminum alloy case with a pre-installed fan. The aluminum alloy actively draws the heat from the pi board, while the fan further cools the board and case. These cooling mechanisms will help push the limits of your processor and increase its flexibility.
  • SIZABLE RAM: This Raspberry Pi 4 comes equipped with 4GB of RAM, which is the same amount of RAM or more RAM than many mainstream laptops contain. With 4GB of RAM, your processor will be capable of running retro gaming setups and common computer applications, media players, and much more!
  • SIMPLE TO TURN ON & OFF: This kit includes a USB-C Raspberry Pi 4 compatible power supply with an easy-to-use on/off switch that was designed specifically for the Raspberry Pi 4 model to streamline processing.
  • IMPROVEMENTS FROM PREVIOUS MODELS: This latest model of the Raspberry Pi 4 offers groundbreaking increases in processor speed, multimedia performance, connectivity, memory, and more! The desktop performance of this model is comparable to entry-level x86 PC systems.
  • VERSATILE USE: The Raspberry Pi may have a small processor, but it is a highly adaptable little computer that can replace your desktop PC. Its functions range from practical to nostalgic since it can power an ad-blocking server as easily as it can power an outmoded gaming setup. Other uses include but are not limited to printing from non-wireless printers, playing media, making time-lapse videos, and building multiplayer network game servers and motion-capture security systems.

Test before leaving the stream unattended

  1. Start with an unlisted or otherwise appropriate test stream so you can inspect it without making a public broadcast.
  2. Use representative devotional footage and audio, including the busiest movement and loudest portions you expect to stream.
  3. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, and any warnings. Confirm picture, audio, correct orientation, and that the video repeats cleanly.
  4. Watch the Pi’s CPU load, temperature, power stability, and network behavior during a sustained test. A short successful start does not establish that the system will run continuously.
  5. Test recovery: briefly interrupt the network or restart the FFmpeg process in a controlled test, then check whether the stream returns and what action is needed. Add process supervision or a restart mechanism if unattended operation is required.

YouTube recommends testing with content that resembles the real stream and monitoring stream health and messages; see its streaming tips.

Plan for archives and interruptions

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single continuous 24/7 session should not be expected to create a complete archive. If an archive matters, schedule shorter sessions and consider a local recording only where storage capacity and content rights permit. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

  • CONVENIENT ACCESSORIES: The power supply features an inline on/off switch neoprene bag that holds and protects all the parts when not in use and the quick start guide is updated and written for Raspberry Pi 4

A Raspberry Pi can be one component in a continuous stream, but reliability also depends on encoding load, upload stability, power, storage, cooling, and a recovery plan. No particular Pi model or FFmpeg command is established as universally capable of uninterrupted 24/7 devotional streaming.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
YouTube does not receive a stream Wrong ingest URL or key, channel eligibility issue, or outbound network problem Recheck the Live Control Room URL and key, channel status, and network access. Reset an exposed key.
Video stutters or FFmpeg falls behind Encoding load exceeds sustained Pi capacity, or the source is difficult to decode Check sustained CPU/temperature behavior; reduce resolution or frame rate, or use compatible pre-encoded media if stream copy fits.
Stream health reports connection instability Insufficient or fluctuating upload capacity Measure available upload during the intended streaming period and preserve YouTube’s roughly 20% headroom recommendation.
Picture appears but audio is missing Source file has no usable audio, audio mapping is incorrect, or encoder settings are incompatible Inspect the input streams with FFmpeg, check output audio mapping, and verify audio in the YouTube preview.
Live stream is interrupted after a copyright match Third-party video or music was detected, or licensed music channel allowlisting is missing Use content you have the relevant streaming rights for and contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting when applicable.
The live broadcast exists but its archive is incomplete or absent The session exceeded 12 hours Use shorter sessions if YouTube archiving is important; a longer session may not be captured.

Or let it run in the cloud
