YouTube Live does not document a way to let viewers switch between multiple spoken-language audio tracks during a live broadcast. The supported route is two-stage: stream your gameplay with an encoder, then—if the resulting video offers the relevant controls in YouTube Studio—add a separately prepared dubbed audio track. An uploaded gaming VOD can use that video workflow if eligible; a live stream’s archive is not guaranteed to be eligible.
Live audio tracks and VOD audio tracks are different
A YouTube Live broadcast sends a live audio mix. YouTube’s documented multi-language audio feature instead lets eligible creators add audio tracks to a video in YouTube Studio on desktop. It does not turn separate OBS mixer tracks, stereo or 5.1 audio, or an audio interface into selectable language options in the live player.

So if you want viewers to hear English and another spoken language, use one language for the live broadcast. Afterward, check whether the video has YouTube Studio’s Languages controls and, if it does, upload a prepared dub. YouTube’s documentation does not explicitly guarantee this workflow for every archive generated by a livestream.
Stage 1: Stream the gameplay with an encoder
YouTube recommends an encoder workflow for gameplay, overlays, and production hardware. Follow YouTube’s live streaming tips and get-started requirements for your account and setup.

- Check access and restrictions. Confirm that live streaming is available on your account and that you meet YouTube’s current requirements. YouTube’s setup guidance covers verification, restrictions, and available ways to stream.
- Set up the live event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Select the encoder workflow and configure the event’s audience, title, visibility, and other details.
- Configure your encoder. Connect it to the event using the stream key and settings YouTube provides. Choose a single live audio mix for the broadcast; creating separate language tracks in an encoder does not establish that viewers can select them on YouTube Live.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and check the preview in Live Control Room. Listen for the right game, microphone, and voice-chat levels, and verify that the picture and sound are working before starting the event.
- Monitor the event and save a local copy. Check audio and video during the stream. Keep a local recording of the finished VOD if you need a dependable source for editing or dubbing, rather than relying only on the automatically generated archive.
For protocol-specific setup, YouTube’s HLS streaming guide includes audio bitrate guidance. It describes stream setup, not a way to broadcast selectable alternate-language audio tracks.
Stage 2: Add a dub to an eligible video in Studio
YouTube says multi-language audio is currently available to creators with Advanced features access. The feature is for adding audio to a video, not for automatically creating a dub. You or a localization provider must prepare the spoken-language recording separately.

- The new generation of the songwriter's interface: Plug in your mic and guitar and let Scarlett Solo 4th Gen bring big studio sound to wherever you make music
- Studio-quality sound: With a huge 120dB dynamic range, the newest generation of Scarlett uses the same converters as Focusrite’s flagship interfaces, found in the world's biggest studios
- Find your signature sound: Scarlett 4th Gen's improved Air mode lifts vocals and guitars to the front of the mix, adding musical presence and rich harmonic drive to your recordings
- All you need to record, mix and master your music: Includes industry-leading recording software and a full collection of record-making plugins
- Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
- Check the video’s eligibility. On a desktop, open YouTube Studio and select the gaming video. Look for its Languages controls. For a livestream archive, proceed only if those controls let you add a language; YouTube’s documentation does not say that every live-created archive qualifies.
- Prepare the dub. Create or commission a spoken-language version and export a supported audio-only file. YouTube says the audio should be roughly the same length as the video. Its multi-language audio instructions give the current supported-file and upload details.
- Add the language and upload the file. In the video’s Languages controls, add the language and upload the matching audio track. Review the language assignment and alignment before publishing the change.
- Check playback. Open the video as a viewer and confirm the alternate audio track is available and synchronized. YouTube says viewers can use the player’s Audio track setting or set preferred languages; its preferred-language help explains the viewer controls.
YouTube reports that creators who uploaded multi-language audio tracks saw over 25% of their watch time come from views in the video’s non-primary language. YouTube does not state a year for that figure on the cited help page, and it is not a gaming-specific forecast.
If you mean an already uploaded gaming VOD
An edited, uploaded VOD is a video rather than a live broadcast, so the documented multi-language-audio workflow may apply if the creator has Advanced features access and the video’s Languages controls permit it. Prepare the dub, upload it in Studio, and test the viewer’s audio-track selection. No encoder or simultaneous live transmission is needed to add audio to an existing eligible video.

Captions are not alternate spoken audio
Captions display text; an audio track plays spoken sound. YouTube’s separate live caption requirements state: “While the 608/708 standard supports up to 4 language tracks, YouTube currently only supports one track of captions.” That statement concerns live captions—not four selectable live audio languages.
Common problems and what to check
- No Languages controls on the archive: The documented feature applies to eligible videos, and eligibility for every live-created archive is not established. Check the individual video in Studio; if it cannot accept a track, use an eligible uploaded video instead.
- Viewers cannot find another spoken language during the live event: YouTube does not document selectable multi-language audio for live broadcasts. The Studio audio-track workflow is a post-production step for an eligible video.
- A separate OBS audio track is not selectable: A track in your encoder’s recording or mixer setup is not, by itself, a YouTube viewer-facing language track. Prepare an audio-only dub and use the Studio workflow if the video is eligible.
- The dub drifts or ends too early: Compare it with the video from beginning to end. YouTube says the uploaded audio should be roughly the same length; correct timing and export the audio-only file again if it does not stay aligned.
- The stream preview has missing or unbalanced sound: Before going live, inspect the Live Control Room preview and check that the encoder is sending the intended game, microphone, and voice-chat mix.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded gaming VOD that you want to loop as a YouTube Live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera, and it does not create alternate live-language tracks or a dub. You still need YouTube Studio’s eligible-video workflow to add a dub afterward.
