You can keep a YouTube channel showing Fortnite replay footage by playing a saved replay, capturing its playback with software such as OBS, and sending that capture to YouTube Live. Fortnite does not export a replay as a finished video: Epic says Replays do not make videos, so the footage must be captured externally. For a dependable archive, run separate livestreams that end before 12 hours, keep local recordings, and restart the stream yourself; YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
What “continuous” means for a Fortnite replay stream
Treat continuous as a channel schedule made of successive livestreams, not one YouTube event that runs and archives indefinitely. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams over 12 hours may not be captured. It recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. YouTube’s archive guidance therefore makes segmented streams the safer operating plan.

| Approach | Advantage | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| One livestream left running | Fewer manual restarts | YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. |
| Separate streams, each under 12 hours, plus local recordings | Fits YouTube’s stated archive guidance and gives you a separate copy | You must monitor the setup, restart the stream, and have local storage available. |
Neither approach guarantees uninterrupted viewing: a replay can stop working after a Fortnite update, the computer or connection can fail, or YouTube can interrupt a broadcast over third-party content.
Prepare a replay that will still play
Enable replay recording before the match
- In Fortnite’s current game settings, enable the replay-recording option for the mode you intend to capture. Epic’s documentation identifies “Record Replays” and “Record Creative Mode Replays.” Menu locations and labels can change between game updates, so check the current settings rather than relying on an old menu path.
- After the match or Creative session, return to the lobby and open the Replays area to find and play the saved replay.
A replay is controllable gameplay data, not a portable video file. Epic warns that replay files may become unusable when game updates change the context or data layouts. Capture footage you want to preserve while the replay still works, particularly before a chapter or season change. See Epic’s replay feature documentation.

Stage the view before recording
Open the replay and choose the player or team viewpoint, camera angle, zoom, and playback speed. Epic documents these replay controls. Position the camera and test the sequence before going live; hide replay controls for a clean capture. If you need a long run of footage, determine in advance how you will move between saved replays: the official material does not establish an automatic Fortnite replay loop or playlist workflow.
Capture the replay and send it to YouTube Live
- Set up OBS. Install and open OBS, then use its Auto-Configuration Wizard to establish basic settings for your computer and connection. OBS points users to its streaming setup guidance and encoder guidance. The available official guidance does not specify a Fortnite-specific resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval, or encoder preset, so do not treat a generic number as right for every machine or internet connection.
- Add a capture source. Add a screen-capture source in OBS that shows Fortnite replay playback. Check the preview for the correct game window, framing, and hidden controls. Epic explicitly directs creators to screen-recording software because Replays do not produce videos themselves.
- Make a test recording. Record a short sample and review its image, audio, and framing before a public broadcast. This also confirms the replay continues to play as expected. Keep a local recording during the actual stream as a separate archive.
- Create the YouTube livestream. In YouTube’s current live setup flow, create the event, choose its title and visibility, and connect OBS using the stream key and settings provided by YouTube. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Use YouTube’s current live setup instructions at YouTube Help rather than copying a potentially outdated interface path.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm YouTube’s Live Control Room receives the picture and audio, and verify the selected title and visibility. Do not leave the setup unattended until the preview and local recording have both been checked.
- End and restart before 12 hours. Stop each event before it reaches 12 hours, confirm the archive appears in YouTube Studio, and start the next event when ready. Retain the local copy even when an archive appears successfully.
Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If it identifies such material, YouTube may show a placeholder, warn you, interrupt the stream, or terminate it if the material remains. A Content ID claim can also be applied to an archived live stream after it ends. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Fortnite footage does not automatically clear every element used in a broadcast. Epic’s Developer Rules say creators must own or obtain the necessary rights to content they use, and that Epic owns intellectual property in its original creations. Be cautious with music, emotes, and third-party elements, especially for commercial use; review current game and platform terms and avoid adding material without an appropriate rights basis. Epic says media creators promoting Fortnite content may apply to Support-A-Creator, but that is not guaranteed enrollment or monetization. Check current eligibility and terms in Epic’s Developer Rules.

Watch OBS’s dropped-frame indicator
OBS says an increasing “Dropped frames” counter, especially alongside a yellow or red connection indicator, can mean the connection is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. If it rises, stop treating the current stream settings as reliable: check the connection, reduce the load or bitrate using OBS’s guidance, and test again before relying on a long broadcast. OBS does not give a Fortnite-specific preset; choose settings for the actual system and connection. See OBS’s dropped-frames explanation.

Common symptoms and fixes
- The replay is missing or will not play: confirm replay recording was enabled for the relevant game mode. If the game has updated since the match, the replay may no longer be usable; capture important footage promptly.
- YouTube shows no picture: inspect the OBS preview and capture-source selection, then confirm the Live Control Room preview receives the encoder signal before going live.
- Frames are dropping: use OBS’s dropped-frame indicator to distinguish a connection or bitrate problem, then adjust and retest rather than assuming the same bitrate will suit every connection.
- The livestream is interrupted or the archive has a copyright claim: review the content in the broadcast for third-party material and address the rights issue. YouTube may interrupt live content during the stream and apply claims to archives after the event.
- The channel has a gap between replay videos: this workflow relies on an operator managing replay playback and stream restarts. The official sources do not establish an automatic loop for Fortnite replay files.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want an always-on YouTube stream without leaving the capture computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube. It does not capture live Fortnite gameplay or automatically turn a Fortnite replay file into a video, so first capture the replay footage as described above, then upload the resulting recording.
- Upload the captured video or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
