How to Stream Different Pre-Recorded Videos by Time of Day with PRISM Live Studio

PRISM Live Studio’s documented features do not include a built-in clock-based scheduler for switching prerecorded videos. You can make a reusable video playlist in PRISM mobile or play local media and change scenes manually in PRISM desktop. For hands-off changes at set times, you’ll need an external scheduling setup—and should test whether it works reliably with your PRISM version before relying on it.

What PRISM can—and cannot—schedule

PRISM mobile lets you create, reorder, seek through, save, and reuse a playlist of videos stored on your device. Its guide does not describe assigning videos to times of day or automatically starting playback on a daily schedule. PRISM’s My Studio guide covers playlist creation and editing.

PRISM desktop for Windows and Mac supports local media sources, and scenes can group sources into different layouts. You can switch scenes during a stream, but the reviewed PRISM guides do not document clock-triggered scene changes. PRISM mobile’s YouTube scheduling option creates or edits a scheduled live event; it does not establish that a particular prerecorded file will start playing at a chosen hour. PRISM’s Media Source guide, scene guide, and mobile platform scheduling guide describe these separate functions.

Choose the workflow that matches your timing needs

Approach What it supports Best suited to Important limitation
PRISM mobile Video playlist Create, reorder, seek, save, and reuse videos on the device. PRISM guide A stream where an operator can manage playback No documented clock-time assignment or unattended schedule
PRISM desktop Media Source and scenes Play local media and organize sources into scenes that can be changed manually. Media Source guide; scene guide A desktop stream with operator-controlled transitions Playback and manual scene switching are documented; automatic time triggers are not
External OBS scheduling tool Scene Scheduler’s manual describes time-based scene and source changes for OBS. Scene Scheduler manual A technical user willing to validate an external setup Compatibility between this specific tool and PRISM is not established
PRISM YouTube schedule Create or edit a scheduled YouTube live event from PRISM mobile. PRISM guide Planning when a live event is listed Does not establish automatic prerecorded-file playback

For an exact-time unattended schedule, distinguish a live event’s listing time from the time a video actually begins playing. Also consider what happens if the computer restarts, a trigger is missed, or the stream is interrupted; the cited feature descriptions do not establish recovery behavior for a combined PRISM and external-scheduler setup.

Set up a playlist for operator-managed playback on mobile

  1. Open My Studio in PRISM Live Studio and create a Video playlist.
  2. Add the videos stored on your device, then reorder them into the sequence you want.
  3. Use the playlist’s seeking controls to select positions as needed, and save the playlist for reuse.
  4. During the stream, manage playback yourself when you want to move between the video blocks. The documented guide does not provide a time-of-day trigger for changing entries.

Use this route when a person can operate the stream. If the stream must change videos at a precise hour without supervision, a saved playlist alone does not meet that requirement.

Set up local videos and manual scene changes on desktop

  1. Add each local video you need as a Media Source in PRISM desktop, then test it in the scene where it will be used. The official guide covers media sources on Windows and Mac.
  2. If a source does not start as expected in Studio Mode, check the playback behavior described by PRISM: uncheck Restart playback when source becomes active, or use Apply in Studio Mode as appropriate.
  3. Create separate scenes or source arrangements for the different video blocks. Scenes organize layouts; they do not, by themselves, assign a time to each video.
  4. Switch scenes manually when each block should begin, and verify the actual media playback behavior before going live.

PRISM’s Media Source guide covers local playback and the Studio Mode behavior; its scene guide covers scene management.

For unattended timing, validate an external scheduler first

Scene Scheduler documents scheduled scene and source changes for OBS, while PRISM’s Windows plugin instructions state that PRISM supports OBS plugins from version 4.0.0 onward and direct users to PRISM 4.0.5 or higher for the documented installation flow. Those facts do not verify that Scene Scheduler works in PRISM. OBS’s own documentation on Media Sources provides context for local media playback, not proof of interoperability with PRISM.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check the current PRISM version, operating system, and plugin instructions before installing anything. PRISM’s plugin guide describes its Windows installation flow.
  2. Test the scheduler with the exact scenes, media sources, and times you intend to use. Confirm that the right video starts and that transitions do not interrupt the live stream.
  3. Test failure cases: restart the computer or PRISM, miss a scheduled trigger, and interrupt the stream. Decide how an operator will notice and recover if the schedule does not resume as expected.
  4. Do not treat the setup as dependable automation until it has behaved correctly in your own environment. Plugin compatibility and recovery for this particular combination are not established by the cited guides.

Common problems and what to check

  • A video does not start when its scene becomes active: In Studio Mode, check PRISM’s Restart playback when source becomes active option or try Apply, as described in the Media Source guide.
  • You scheduled a YouTube event but the intended file did not begin: Event scheduling and media playback are separate functions. The mobile scheduling guide documents scheduling the event, not assigning a prerecorded file to a clock time.
  • A scene change did not happen at the desired hour: PRISM’s scene guide describes scene management, not timed triggers. If you added an external scheduler, verify the trigger configuration and test the setup; PRISM compatibility with Scene Scheduler is not confirmed by the available documentation.
  • A playlist will not change videos unattended: The mobile playlist guide documents saved, reusable ordering and seeking, not an automatic daily schedule. Plan for an operator or validate a separate scheduling system.

Keep prerecorded streams rights-compliant

Before streaming, make sure you have the rights and permissions needed for every video, music track, and other included material. A playlist or schedule does not grant permission to rebroadcast content. For a practical review before going live, use StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist; YouTube’s current rules and any rights-holder restrictions still apply.
