You can turn aquarium recordings into a continuous YouTube live stream by playing them through an encoder connected to YouTube Live. The playback can run on a computer, dedicated hardware, or in the cloud. Before launch, verify your channel can stream, test the feed and plan for monitoring, archives, and content rights.
What you need for a 24/7 aquarium stream
YouTube Live receives a continuous video feed from an encoder. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. For a channel built from recordings, the encoder must play your footage in sequence and send that output to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast as a supported use case. That does not mean a stream is guaranteed to stay uninterrupted: the playback system, internet connection, power, and monitoring still matter.
- A YouTube channel that is eligible to live stream.
- Recordings and any accompanying audio that you have the rights to stream.
- A playback and encoding setup: software on a computer, a cloud prerecorded-video service, or a hardware encoder.
- A reliable internet connection with enough upload bandwidth for the stream.
- A plan to check the feed and respond if playback or transmission stops.
Choose how to play and encode your recordings
The right setup depends on where you want playback to run and how much equipment you want to maintain. YouTube’s encoder directory lists software, hardware, and cloud options, including services identified for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming.
#1 Best Overall
- Compact: Dimension: 7.9"x5.9"x5.9"; 1 Gallon tank; ideal for small spaces, aquarium beginners caring for a single betta, a few shrimp, snails, or a tiny goldfish. Also works as a temporary hospital tank, quarantine tank, or desktop decor (After deducting the filter part, the actual usable volume is approximately 0.8 gal and it will further decrease after adding substrate)
- Customizable Lighting: features a 3-color LED hood with 10 adjustable brightness levels to showcase your fish and tank décor
- Self-Cleaning Filtration: Hidden filter keeps tank clean for easier maintenance. Note: Clean filter sponge and pump regularly to avoid clogging; regular water changes are required — this small tank does not support zero-maintenance use
- Thoughtful Design: its top feeding hole allows for easy feeding without removing the lid; four silicone feet for stability and quiet operation
- Complete Starter Kit: 1x 1 gallon Fish Tank, 1x Filter Sponge, 1x Adjustable Water Pump, 1x LED Hood (Note: The light requires a power transformer (not included) for use. Compatible transformers include 5V 0.5A, 5V 1A, 5V 1.5A, and 5V 2A)

| StreamNeo cloud service | Creators who want uploaded recordings to play continuously without leaving a home computer running. | It is a paid service after its one free day; confirm that its playlist and storage limits suit your program. | StreamNeo says each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, and supports uploaded videos, playlists, and YouTube streaming. |
| Software encoder on a computer | Starting with equipment you already have and controlling playback locally. | The computer, software, power, and network connection must remain available. | YouTube lists Open Broadcaster Software as an encoder option. Check the current software documentation for playlist looping and restart behavior. |
| Cloud prerecorded-video service | Hosting prerecorded playback and encoding away from your computer. | Commercial terms, availability, and controls differ by service and need checking directly. | YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre and Upstream for 24/7 use cases; its listing does not establish their current prices or service guarantees. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | More involved or higher-production setups where a dedicated appliance is justified. | Requires a purchase and compatibility checks; it is not necessary for every simple prerecorded stream. | YouTube recognizes standalone encoders and recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production streams. |
Compare options by where playback runs, who maintains it, whether it can repeat your intended playlist, how upload bandwidth is provided, what recovery controls exist, and how recordings and archives are stored. YouTube’s directory establishes that certain product categories exist; it does not establish current pricing, availability in every location, or uninterrupted operation for any service.
Prepare your YouTube channel and stream
- Confirm live-stream eligibility. YouTube says the channel must have no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. If enabling live streaming for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Set the title, description, visibility, and scheduled start time if you want viewers to find it in advance.
- Get the connection details. In the stream setup, use the YouTube stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room to connect your encoder. Treat the key like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Set up your playback source. For computer software, add your aquarium video files or playlist as a playback source and configure the encoder to send its output to YouTube. Exact playlist and restart controls vary by software and version, so verify them in the current product documentation.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check picture, audio, and transitions before starting the broadcast.
- Start the YouTube broadcast. When the preview is healthy, start the live broadcast in Live Control Room. Confirm it is accessible from the channel and watch pages, including on a phone.
Build a continuous program that works as a channel
Choose a playback sequence that makes sense for viewers arriving at any hour. If clips have different aspect ratios, exposure, color, or audio levels, review the joins and decide whether to normalize them or group similar recordings together. These are production choices rather than specific YouTube requirements.
Repeated footage can be useful for a relaxing aquarium feed, but a loop alone does not establish that a channel will qualify for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and warn that highly repetitive, mass-produced, or interchangeable content may be ineligible. Meaningful original footage, useful context, and genuine variation can help make the program more distinctive, but no change guarantees approval.

Check bandwidth and monitor the live feed
YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total bitrate of the stream. If you send a backup feed, include its bitrate too. The usable upload capacity of the streaming computer may be lower than the advertised connection speed when other devices share the network.
- Test the connection at the location and time you intend to stream, with other regular network use in mind.
- Check the encoder preview in Live Control Room before going live.
- Confirm viewers can access the feed from the channel and watch pages and on mobile.
- Keep checking audio and video quality. For a long-running channel, arrange for someone to notice a frozen image, disconnected encoder, stopped playlist, or audio problem.
- Decide in advance how to restart playback and reconnect the encoder. Monitoring guidance is not a promise that a failure will recover automatically.
Plan archives separately from the live broadcast
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 broadcast exceeds that duration, so do not assume the entire program will be saved as one automatic replay. If you need a complete record, make a separate recording or use shorter broadcast segments, and confirm current archive behavior before launch.

YouTube Partner Program creators may monetize live streams subject to eligibility and applicable policies. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions: permission to use footage does not guarantee monetization, and YouTube assesses whether content is original and authentic as well as whether it complies with copyright rules. The policy page notes that on July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified and renamed its repetitious-content policy as inauthentic content.
