Use an encoder such as OBS Studio to combine a still image with MP3 playback, then send the resulting video-and-audio stream to YouTube Live over RTMPS. The image must be encoded as the video part of the stream; a picture alone is not a live feed. The exact way to queue and repeat a folder of MP3s depends on the encoder and its version, so test that behavior before relying on it for a long broadcast.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and access to its Live Control Room.
- An encoder such as OBS Studio, installed on a computer that can stay connected for the intended broadcast.
- The static image you want viewers to see and the MP3 files arranged in the order you want them played.
- Rights to rebroadcast every recording, including music, excerpts, and other inserted material.
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. Because YouTube expects video as well as audio, the encoder must render the still image into a video stream alongside the podcast audio. YouTube’s live encoder settings describe supported formats and recommended settings.

Prepare and clear the podcast archive
Arrange the audio and image
- Choose a representative image for the full broadcast. Use an image you are allowed to display and make sure it is legible at the size viewers will see.
- Put the MP3 episodes in the intended playback order. Decide whether the archive should play once or repeat; confirm that your encoder can perform the required queue and repeat behavior.
- Check the beginning and end of the files, their volume consistency, and any gaps or transitions you do not want viewers to encounter. Run a short test using representative files.
The exact OBS playlist, sequencing, and repeat controls depend on the software version and configuration. The OBS YouTube guide does not establish a version-independent procedure for automatically advancing through an arbitrary folder of MP3s while holding one image on screen. Verify the controls in your installed version rather than assuming that adding several files will create a continuous archive.

Review rights before going live
Previously published podcast episodes are not automatically cleared for rebroadcast as a live stream. Review rights for the entire archive, including music and clips. YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content; a match can replace the stream with a placeholder image, and unresolved material can lead to interruption or termination. If you have a licence for matched material, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance on live streams and copyrighted content.

Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
Set up the image-and-audio stream in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, add an Image source for the static artwork and size it to fill the canvas. Keep the source visible throughout the broadcast.
- Add the MP3 playback. Add or route the audio source that will play the archive. Configure the queue, order, and repeat behavior using controls available in your OBS version or another playback method you have verified. Listen for the transition between files.
- Connect to YouTube. In OBS, choose YouTube – RTMPS as the service, then select or enter the stream key for the intended broadcast. OBS’s published guide covers the YouTube connection flow; screen labels can change between versions. Read the OBS YouTube Live guide.
- Set video and output options. Use a video codec supported by YouTube, set rate control to CBR, and set the keyframe interval to two seconds. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Choose the output resolution and video bitrate from YouTube’s current bitrate guidance, accounting for the upload capacity of the connection you will use.
- Set audio options. YouTube lists MP3 or AAC audio support. Its guidance lists 44.1 kHz for stereo and recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio. Match channel count to your material and check that the encoder’s output is audible and not clipping.
- Use RTMPS transport. YouTube recommends RTMPS, its secure RTMP extension. For custom encoder integrations, Google’s ingestion documentation specifies a valid YouTube RTMPS endpoint and port 443. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion documentation.
For bitrate selection, follow the current values on YouTube’s encoder settings page for your chosen resolution and frame rate. Do not select a bitrate solely because the source is audio: the encoder still sends a video stream containing the still image.
Test, start, and monitor the broadcast
- Protect the stream key as you would a password. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots or recordings.
- Before the public broadcast, run a private or unlisted test if it fits your workflow. Use the same computer, network, image, and representative audio you plan to use live.
- Check the OBS preview and YouTube preview: confirm the image is present, the audio is audible, and the archive advances in the intended order and repeats if required.
- Watch YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health indicators. An encoder showing a successful connection does not by itself confirm that a scheduled broadcast has been made live to viewers; check the broadcast status and auto-start behavior.
- During the broadcast, monitor stream health and playback. When finished, stop the stream in the encoder and confirm in Live Control Room that the broadcast has ended.
YouTube recommends testing before starting and monitoring stream health. The current guidance is at YouTube’s encoder settings page; OBS’s connection and status steps are covered in its YouTube Live guide.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube preview is black or has no image | The image source is missing, hidden, or not filling the output canvas. | Check the OBS scene and source visibility, then verify the preview before starting the broadcast. |
| Image appears but there is no sound | The MP3 playback is not routed to the encoder’s output, or the selected source is silent. | Check OBS audio meters and monitoring, test a known file, and confirm the YouTube preview receives audio. |
| Only one MP3 plays, or the archive stops unexpectedly | Playlist sequencing or repeat behavior is not configured as intended. | Verify the queue and repeat controls in your encoder version; test a complete sequence before a long broadcast. |
| Encoder connects but viewers do not see a live broadcast | The YouTube broadcast may still be scheduled or awaiting an auto-start/manual start transition. | Check the broadcast state and start controls in Live Control Room. |
| Stream health reports problems | The selected bitrate may exceed the available upload connection, or output settings may not match YouTube’s recommendations. | Check the current resolution-specific bitrate guidance, use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and test on the intended connection. |
| Stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder | YouTube may have detected third-party content in the live audio. | Review the archive rights and any Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder before restarting. |
