To stream an existing devotional podcast archive on YouTube Live all day, loop one file or a playlist in OBS Studio, send the scene to YouTube with your encoder stream URL and key, and keep the computer and a reliable internet connection running. Before going live, confirm you have the rights to every recording and included song or other material. Plan a separate local recording too: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an automatic archive.
Before you start: rights, channel access, and equipment
A devotional subject does not make a recording free to rebroadcast. Make sure you have permission for each episode and for any music, performance, artwork, or other material incorporated into it. YouTube’s Terms of Service place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants.

- A YouTube channel ready to go live: The channel must be verified and must not have had livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and livestreaming tips.
- A computer that can play the files and run OBS: The stream runs from that computer in this do-it-yourself setup, so it needs to stay on while broadcasting.
- Stable upload bandwidth: YouTube recommends having upload capacity above the selected stream bitrate, with 20% headroom. Network disruption can break the stream; see YouTube’s network guidance.
- Your media files: OBS lists common supported video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, MKV, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Confirm the file plays correctly before scheduling the broadcast.
- Separate storage for a backup: A local recording is useful if you need a copy independent of YouTube’s archive. Choose storage capacity according to the recording quality and duration; YouTube does not specify a required drive size.
Choose how OBS will repeat the archive
Use a Media Source for one recording or a VLC Video source for an ordered playlist. The playlist option requires VLC to be installed. These settings repeat playback locally; they do not guarantee that the computer, network, or livestream will run without interruption.
| Playback pattern | OBS source and setting | Best suited to | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| One long file | Media Source; enable its loop option | A single prepared recording or compilation | Simple to set up, but less convenient when you need to control a sequence of separate episodes. |
| Several files in order | VLC Video source; create the playlist and enable Loop Playlist | An archive that should play episodes in a chosen order | Requires VLC and a checked playlist; replacing or rearranging episodes means maintaining that list. |
Set up the OBS broadcast to YouTube Live
- Prepare and check the media. Put the intended file or episode files in an accessible folder. Play them locally, check their audio levels, and confirm the sequence and duration. Keep a copy of the originals for recovery.
- Create an OBS scene and add the media source. For one file, add a Media Source and turn on its loop option. For multiple files, add a VLC Video source, build the playlist in the intended order, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source.
- Get the encoder details from YouTube. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the livestream. In OBS, configure the stream service as YouTube and enter the encoder stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s setup workflow. Treat the stream key like a password; do not share or publish it. YouTube describes this workflow in its encoder streaming instructions.
- Set the output for your connection. Choose a stream bitrate your upload connection can sustain, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. For example, if the chosen bitrate is 5 Mbps, plan for at least 6 Mbps of dependable upload capacity. This is a headroom calculation, not a guarantee of performance; other network use and instability can still cause problems.
- Start with a test. Start the OBS stream and check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and connection warnings before making the broadcast public. Verify that the watch page is accessible as intended. YouTube recommends testing ahead of time and monitoring stream quality in its livestreaming tips.
- Monitor the live session. Confirm episodes advance and repeat as expected, the audio remains audible, and YouTube has not shown a copyright notice or connection warning. Keep the machine and network available throughout the session.
Protect the recording when the stream runs all day
Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive as the only copy of an all-day broadcast. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its archive guidance recommends making a local backup.

In OBS, enable local recording separately from streaming and confirm where recordings are saved. Check that the destination has enough free space for the planned duration and quality, then verify the resulting file. A long recording can consume substantial storage; the amount depends on its bitrate and duration. For a continuous schedule, decide in advance whether to use sessions that remain under YouTube’s 12-hour archive caveat or accept that YouTube may not provide an archive for a longer session. A local copy remains the more controllable backup.
Copyright and monetization are separate checks
YouTube scans livestreams for matches to third-party content. Its guidance says a stream may show a placeholder, warn the operator, or be interrupted or terminated when third-party material is detected. Even if you hold a license, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the stream to avoid interruption. Read YouTube’s live copyright guidance and arrange any required allowlisting before broadcasting.

Permission to stream does not guarantee eligibility for monetization. YouTube’s policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content,” clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible. Its reused-content policy separately considers whether material has significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Eligibility depends on the channel and content; it cannot be determined from the archive’s devotional subject alone. See YouTube’s monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The stream will not start: Check that the channel is verified and not restricted from live streaming, and confirm OBS has the current YouTube stream URL and key. Review YouTube’s Live Control Room for setup or account notices.
- The stream disconnects or quality drops: Check upload stability and reduce the OBS bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it. Keep the recommended 20% headroom and avoid saturating the connection with other uploads or streams.
- A playlist stops or an episode is missing: Check the VLC Video playlist order, file paths, and Loop Playlist setting. Confirm VLC is installed and each file plays locally.
- YouTube displays a copyright warning or interrupts the broadcast: Stop using the flagged material unless you have the necessary rights. If licensed, contact the relevant rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for the channel; a license alone may not prevent an automated interruption.
- No YouTube archive appears after a very long session: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Use a separate OBS local recording and verify the saved file rather than assuming a server-side archive will exist.
- Audio or video is missing in the preview: Confirm the media source is visible in the scene, that the file plays and is not muted, and that the correct scene is being sent to YouTube. Test again before relying on the broadcast.
