To make a continuous live channel from speedrun VODs, sequence videos you have permission to rebroadcast, play them through an encoder, and send that feed to a live stream created in YouTube Studio. YouTube documents the live-stream and encoder workflow, but the official pages cited here do not identify a supported tool that automatically converts a YouTube playlist into an encoder feed.
What “playlist loop” does—and what a live channel requires
YouTube’s playlist loop control repeats videos for ordinary playback. It does not create a live event or send a broadcast to viewers. A continuous live channel is an encoder feed: the VODs are played in sequence, and an encoder sends the resulting audio and video to YouTube Live.

The signal path is: authorized VODs → a playback and sequencing method → encoder → YouTube Live. YouTube supports software encoders; hardware encoders are an option for higher-production events, not a stated requirement for this use. Its live-streaming tips describe encoders as a way to stream gameplay and overlays (YouTube live streaming tips).
Check eligibility and rights before building the feed
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days to stream live. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before spending time configuring playback or an encoder (YouTube live streaming tips).

Make sure every VOD and included element is cleared
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights to exploit the live content on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights. Live content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines. YouTube also says playlists that violate its guidelines are not allowed, including cases where the collection as a whole violates policy (Livestream terms and conditions).
A public VOD or a video already in a playlist is not, by itself, permission to rebroadcast it. Review the rights for each speedrun recording and its game footage, music, overlays, and other third-party material, including the territories where the channel will be available.

Choose how to sequence and play the VODs
You need a playback source that can play the chosen videos in order and supply their audio and video to the encoder. The official YouTube pages below explain how to create and send a live stream; they do not document an automatic YouTube-playlist-to-encoder tool. Do not assume YouTube’s playlist loop can serve as that tool.

Check whether it can access your particular videos, preserve playlist order, handle videos that become private or unavailable, maintain compatible encoder output, recover from interruptions, and meet the relevant rights and platform terms. Create the YouTube Live stream and connect an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream, selecting the intended privacy and event settings. YouTube’s setup instructions describe creating the stream in Live Control Room (Manage live stream settings).
- Choose suitable event controls. Review the available settings, including privacy, DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop. DVR lets viewers pause and resume the live event; choose settings that suit the channel and presentation (Manage live stream settings).
- Copy the server URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the live server/stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Keep it private and reset it if it is exposed (Manage live stream settings; Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
- Configure the encoder for your actual feed and connection. Select output settings that the playback source and upload connection can sustain. YouTube provides protocol, codec, frame-rate, and bitrate guidance; use its current encoder settings rather than assuming the highest quality setting is suitable (Streaming tips).
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Confirm the expected video and audio appear in Live Control Room before making the event public or relying on it. Check the watch page and channel page as well as a mobile device.
- Monitor the live event. Watch stream health and verify that video and audio remain present as the VOD sequence advances. When the broadcast is finished, stop the encoder and end the event in YouTube Studio as appropriate.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archiving behavior, not a promise that a live channel can run indefinitely (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test bandwidth, picture, and audio before going public
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth 20% above the total stream bitrate. Measure the connection used by the encoder, not just a different device or network.
- Test the complete playback chain. Run the VOD source and encoder together, then verify that transitions between videos do not leave gaps, silence, or an unintended screen.
- Check the preview and destinations. YouTube recommends checking the preview, watch/channel pages, and mobile playback. Confirm the audio is intelligible and the video is stable.
- Monitor stream health during the broadcast. A successful initial preview does not prove that the connection or source will remain stable. Keep an eye on YouTube’s health indicators and the playback sequence.
These checks follow YouTube’s encoder and streaming guidance (Streaming tips).

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The playlist repeats for viewers, but no live event exists | Playlist playback is not an encoder broadcast. | Create a live stream in Live Control Room and send it an encoder feed; playlist loop alone cannot create the event. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Stream URL, key, or encoder configuration | Confirm the encoder is using the URL and key for the intended stream. Re-copy them from Studio and keep the key private. |
| The preview is unstable or stream health is poor | Upload capacity or output settings | Check the encoder’s bitrate against the connection and leave YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom. Test again at sustainable settings. |
| The live feed starts but a VOD is missing or playback stops | Source availability or sequencing method | Check that each source video remains accessible and that the sequencing method handles unavailable or private videos. Confirm these behaviors in that tool’s current documentation. |
| The broadcast is blocked or raises a rights concern | Rights or Community Guidelines | Review rights for the actual VODs and included material, and check YouTube’s live-stream terms and Community Guidelines before restarting. |
