To stream a product showcase playlist on YouTube Live, play the local video files through an encoder such as OBS Studio, then send that live feed to a scheduled YouTube broadcast. In OBS, add a VLC Video source, load the clips in order, and keep shuffle off. A YouTube playlist page by itself does not become a live broadcast.
Before you start
- Your YouTube channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Have the showcase videos saved as local files, an internet connection, and a computer able to run OBS. The documented setup does not require special production equipment if you already have those basics.
- Make sure you have permission to stream every video, image, music track, and other asset in the showcase. A video being available online does not establish that you have the right to rebroadcast it.
Build the playlist in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. Match the architecture: if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. If VLC Video is missing from OBS’s source list, check this first. OBS’s Media Sources documentation explains the source requirements.
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the showcase. Scenes and sources are the building blocks of the layout; add a VLC Video source for the playlist. You can also add a microphone or camera source if a presenter will narrate or appear live. See the OBS Sources Guide.
- Load and order the clips. In the VLC Video source properties, add the local media files in the sequence you want viewers to see them. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a planned product demonstration. Enable Loop Playlist if the showcase should repeat; OBS documents this option as on by default, with shuffle off by default.
- Check the full sequence. Preview the scene and play through the clips, including the transition from the last item back to the first if looping. Listen for sudden volume changes, missing audio, or unintended black gaps. Adjust audio levels and any overlays before scheduling the public event.
Schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go Live, then open Manage and select Schedule Stream.
- Enter the event title and description, choose a thumbnail and visibility, and set any other stream details. YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted visibility. Scheduling creates a watch page you can share and may allow viewers to opt into reminders. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and live stream settings guide.
- Choose latency and DVR settings based on the event. Lower latency can reduce the delay between the presenter and viewers, but may increase buffering. DVR lets viewers pause and resume. If audience interaction is central, a shorter delay may matter; if smooth playback is more important, test the setting that suits your audience.
Connect OBS and go live
- In the scheduled event’s Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open the stream settings and enter the URL and key for the event. The key lets the encoder send its feed to YouTube, so treat it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS.
- Send the OBS feed before the event starts. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming feed and check the preview for the right playlist, picture, and sound. Monitor audio and video quality, and verify the watch page on the devices your viewers are likely to use. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- When the preview is correct, click Go Live in Live Control Room for the scheduled broadcast. Starting OBS sends the feed; the YouTube control starts the scheduled event.
- At the end, click End Stream in YouTube, then stop sending from OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on that for a longer broadcast.
Choose an encoder workflow that fits the show
OBS with a VLC playlist source is a practical fit when you need to queue several local clips, loop them, add a live presenter, or control overlays in a scene. Another compatible encoder can also send a program to YouTube using the event’s stream URL and key. YouTube documents encoder support generally, while OBS specifically documents playlist and loop controls; the right choice depends on whether the software can queue clips, move between them reliably, keep sound consistent, support the presentation elements you need, and connect to YouTube. No comparative performance result is established here.
Troubleshoot common problems
- VLC Video is not available as a source: install VLC and confirm that its architecture matches OBS (for example, 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS).
- YouTube does not receive the feed: recheck the stream URL and key in OBS against the current values in Live Control Room. If an encoder error persists, retrieve a current key and update the encoder, as described in YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance.
- The wrong clip plays or the sequence changes: review the VLC source’s playlist order and confirm Shuffle Playlist is off. Test the playlist from the first item through its final item before the event.
- Sound levels jump between clips: review the audio in each file and check OBS levels across the complete sequence. If a presenter is speaking, test the microphone against the loudest clip and monitor the live preview.
- The scheduled watch page exists, but the event is not live: confirm OBS is sending a feed, wait for it to appear in the YouTube preview, and then use YouTube’s Go Live control. Scheduling, sending the encoder feed, and starting the public event are distinct actions.
- Viewers report buffering or delay: review the latency choice and test playback before the event. Lower latency may reduce delay but can increase buffering; DVR affects whether viewers can pause and resume.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the showcase is prerecorded and you want it to keep playing as a YouTube live stream without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
