For multiple files, OBS’s VLC Video source can queue and loop a playlist; Airtel’s router and Xstream set-top box do not play that playlist for YouTube.
What you need
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- A computer with OBS Studio and the playlist video files stored locally.
- VLC installed if you plan to use OBS’s VLC Video source.
- An internet connection through Airtel Xstream Fiber. Connect the computer to the router by Ethernet if practical; otherwise, test the Wi-Fi connection you plan to use.
YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and a minimum age of 16. Eligibility and enforcement can change, so confirm the current status in YouTube Live Control Room. Your broadcast must also comply with YouTube’s policies and terms, and you need the rights to every playlist item. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.

Set up a looping video playlist in OBS
- Check the files first. Play each video locally and confirm its picture and audio work. OBS documents formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM for Media Source, but a listed format does not guarantee every file or codec will work on every computer.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, create or select a scene, add a VLC Video source, and add the local files in the order you want them to play. If VLC Video is unavailable, install VLC and reopen OBS.
- Set the playlist behavior. Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the queue. Leave Shuffle Playlist off if the sequence matters.
- Arrange the scene. Resize and position the source in the preview, and check that the intended audio is enabled and at a suitable level. If you only need to repeat one file, use OBS’s separate Media Source and its Loop option instead; it is not the multi-file playlist queue.
- Preview playback. Start the source and check that files advance as expected, the picture fits the scene, and audio is audible. Keep the computer awake and OBS running for the duration of this do-it-yourself stream.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule a broadcast.
- In OBS, select YouTube RTMPS as the service if available. Alternatively, enter the server and stream key YouTube provides for the broadcast, following the directions shown in Live Control Room.
- Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Start streaming in OBS. Wait for YouTube’s preview and stream-health status, then start the broadcast in Live Control Room or let the scheduled broadcast settings take effect.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. Follow its current encoder guidance if interface labels or connection instructions differ.

Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
There is no single safe bitrate for every Airtel Xstream Fiber subscriber. Airtel advertises plans with speeds expressed as maximum or “up to” values; those figures do not establish the sustained upload speed at your home, at a particular time, or over Wi-Fi. Measure from the computer running OBS and judge the result by sustained stability, not a single speed-test number. See Airtel’s broadband plans and YouTube’s codec- and resolution-specific encoder guidance.
YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations, verified on 2026-10-03, are 5 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 30 fps, and 6 Mbps minimum and 12 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 60 fps. YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; its guidance says keyframes should be no more than four seconds apart. These are YouTube ingestion settings, not measurements or guarantees of Airtel upload performance. YouTube’s help page did not show a publication year, so check its current table before streaming.

YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 ingestion options. Choose a resolution, frame rate, and codec your computer can encode and your connection can sustain. Higher resolution and frame rate require more bitrate. If OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube reports poor stream health, lower the bitrate or output settings before attempting a higher-quality stream. Test and monitor the stream
- Run a test from the same computer and network path you plan to use for the broadcast.
- Use representative movement and audio, rather than testing only a static screen or silent clip.
- Start OBS streaming and verify YouTube receives the preview and reports healthy stream status before you go live.
- During the broadcast, watch OBS’s dropped-frame indicators and YouTube’s stream-health messages. If the connection struggles, reduce bitrate and investigate the network before raising quality.
A speed test alone cannot guarantee a stable long broadcast. OBS warns that “WiFi may be unstable for streaming” and recommends a wired connection. If Ethernet from the computer to the Airtel router is practical, test it before buying equipment. A faulty cable, router, adapter, or other network device can also cause trouble, so diagnose the connection rather than assuming a new accessory will fix it. OBS connection troubleshooting.

Common problems and fixes
