You can use an NGINX-based RTMP relay to send a Telugu devotional playlist to YouTube, but only if your particular nginx-rtmp-module build can publish securely to YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint. YouTube requires RTMPS over TLS on port 443, with the endpoint’s hostname sent through SNI; plain RTMP is not an equivalent secure substitute. The sources available here do not establish working RTMPS publishing syntax for a specific module build, so do not rely on a copy-paste NGINX configuration without verifying that capability first.
Before configuring a relay, clear the rights for the actual recordings, performances, arrangements and visuals. Then obtain the current ingest address and stream key from YouTube Studio or the LiveStreams API, verify your relay’s RTMPS support, and test the stream before scheduling a continuous broadcast.

What you need before you start
- Cleared media: every song recording, performance or arrangement, and visual in the playlist must be authorized for the intended live use and territories. A devotional subject, a traditional melody, possession of a file, or finding a track online does not establish that the recording or arrangement is free to stream.
- A YouTube live broadcast: use YouTube Studio to enable or schedule the broadcast and obtain its current stream URL and key from the live control settings. For an API-managed workflow, use the ingestion information supplied by the YouTube LiveStreams API. Do not copy endpoint values from old tutorials; YouTube’s current values are authoritative.
- An always-on relay host: this can be an existing Linux machine, local hardware, or a hosted Linux VPS. It needs stable outbound connectivity, enough transfer capacity for a continuous stream, and monitoring and recovery access.
- An NGINX RTMP build that can publish to RTMPS: confirm this for the exact module, build and version you will run before relying on the setup. The existence of an NGINX-based RTMP module does not establish that a given build can publish through TLS to YouTube.
Keep the YouTube stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not commit it to a public or shared repository, include it in screenshots, or expose it in logs or publicly readable configuration files. Rotate it in YouTube if you believe it has been disclosed.
How the YouTube ingest connection works
Google for Developers describes RTMPS as a regular RTMP video stream tunneled through SSL/TLS. For YouTube RTMPS, the publishing connection must use a valid YouTube RTMPS URL and application path, connect on port 443, and send the server hostname as SNI. The LiveStreams API describes primary and backup ingestion addresses; use the address YouTube supplies for your broadcast rather than assuming a fixed endpoint.

These details matter because a relay that only publishes plain RTMP has not met YouTube’s RTMPS requirements. Do not treat changing a URL prefix or port as proof that TLS, the correct application path, or SNI is being handled. Confirm all of them in the documentation and tests for the specific module build and its publishing path.
Set up the playlist and broadcast
1. Assemble and clear the media
Make a playlist from the exact audio and visual files you intend to broadcast. Keep written permissions and confirm that they cover live streaming, the relevant territories and, if you intend to leave the replay available, archiving. YouTube notes that completed archived live streams can receive Content ID claims after the broadcast.
Review the playlist order and transitions before going live. A continuous broadcast also needs an operating plan for what the relay should do when it reaches the end of the playlist, encounters an unreadable file, or loses its connection. Do not assume that a playlist will loop or recover merely because it plays locally; verify that behavior in the software you select.

2. Create the YouTube live event and retrieve its ingest details
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the intended live broadcast and open its live control settings.
- Copy the current stream URL and stream key for that broadcast. If using the LiveStreams API, retrieve the stream’s ingestion information, including the primary and, when supplied, backup address.
- Store the key somewhere access-controlled and pass it to the relay without exposing it in public files, screenshots or logs.
Use the live event’s current ingest details. An old URL from a tutorial may be stale or may use a different protocol.
3. Verify the NGINX relay before configuring the publish path
The arut/nginx-rtmp-module project is a separate NGINX-based media-streaming project; it is not the same thing as NGINX’s built-in HTTP HLS module. The available project information establishes the module’s identity, but not a tested RTMPS push directive or working configuration for a particular build. Consequently, there is no safe universal configuration block to paste here.
For the exact build you plan to use, confirm from its current documentation or maintained build instructions that it supports outbound RTMPS publishing, TLS certificate verification, port 443, and SNI for YouTube’s hostname. Check how it accepts the application path and stream key, and how it reports TLS or connection errors. If any of those requirements are unsupported or unclear, use a compatible encoder or relay path instead of sending plain RTMP and calling it RTMPS.

NGINX’s built-in ngx_http_hls_module is a different feature: it serves HLS for MP4/MOV media files and supports H.264 video with AAC/MP3 audio. It does not, by itself, supply the RTMP relay or YouTube RTMPS publishing capability described here. YouTube’s HLS ingest is a separate protocol with its own playlist and segment requirements; do not apply RTMPS endpoint instructions to HLS.

4. Test privately or in a suitable test mode
- Start the relay with the current YouTube ingest details and a short, rights-cleared test segment.
- Check the connection and stream health in YouTube Studio or the API. Look for ingest status and any reported health or configuration issues before opening the broadcast to viewers.
- Confirm that audio and video arrive as expected, the playlist progresses, and the relay handles a disconnect or end-of-file in the way you intend.
- Only schedule or open the longer broadcast after the test succeeds. Keep a way to stop the relay and restart it if the host, network, playlist or YouTube connection fails.
This is an operational test plan, not a claim that a particular NGINX build or configuration has been tested.
Choose where the relay runs
The relay host must stay available for the whole broadcast. Choose based on the factors below; there is no universally best location.

No provider, VPS price or hardware model is established here. Compare the actual terms for your location and the amount of continuous outbound traffic your stream will generate rather than assuming a particular plan is sufficient.

YouTube Help says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. When YouTube identifies a match, it may replace the live stream with a placeholder image and warn the streamer to stop using the content; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a live stream.
If you have a license for third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without allowlisting, a stream can still be interrupted even when your rights apply only in specified territories. A license and a platform allowlist address different parts of the problem: retain your permission documents, and ask the owner about allowlisting for your channel and licensed scope. Neither the devotional nature of a song nor a license for one recording automatically clears other recordings, performances, arrangements or visuals in the playlist.

Monitor YouTube Studio for stream health and rights notices during the broadcast. For an all-day stream, also watch the relay process, host and network availability, playlist progression and any alerts from the rights holders. YouTube’s ability to interrupt a stream means that no relay configuration can promise an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast.
