Use OBS Studio with its VLC Video source to play a chosen sequence of prerecorded walkthroughs, loop it, and send the result to YouTube Live. YouTube receives one continuous encoder feed; it does not play a YouTube playlist URL as a live broadcast. For this do-it-yourself method, keep the computer and OBS running throughout the stream.
What you need before starting
- Walkthrough video files you own or have permission to stream, with the desired order decided in advance.
- A computer running OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source will not appear unless VLC is installed.
- A YouTube channel eligible to live stream, plus a reliable enough computer and internet connection for the broadcast.
Plan to check each video’s playback and audio locally. Decide whether to place a title card or transition between homes; the playlist itself can move from one file to the next.

Build and loop the playlist in OBS
- Install VLC if needed. If OBS does not offer a VLC Video source, install VLC and reopen OBS.
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, add a VLC Video source to that scene.
- Add the walkthrough files. In the source’s playlist controls, add the media files and arrange them in the order viewers should see them.
- Choose predictable playback. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence; turn on Loop Playlist to repeat it after the final file.
- Check the scene. Start playback in OBS and verify the image, audio, and progression to the next file. OBS’s source documentation describes the controls, but it cannot verify that your files or setup work correctly.
OBS describes the VLC Video source as allowing a playlist of items, similar to an image slideshow. This is the part that creates the rotation; YouTube receives the resulting encoded video as one live stream.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check channel readiness early. YouTube’s getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and lists a minimum age for live streaming. YouTube’s encoder setup page says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before the planned broadcast. Check current YouTube Studio and Help guidance because requirements and interfaces can change.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and key into OBS. Use the values YouTube provides in the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes the encoder to send the feed. Do not show it in a screen capture, overlay, or public post.
- Start OBS streaming and preview the feed. Confirm that YouTube Live Control Room shows the right scene and that the video and audio are coming through as expected before you make the stream public.
The exact YouTube Studio labels can change. Follow the current encoder setup flow shown for your stream rather than relying on an old screenshot or a previously saved key.

Test, schedule, and run the broadcast
Before viewers arrive
- Confirm the correct scheduled event is selected and the intended OBS scene is active.
- Preview the incoming stream in Live Control Room, then check the actual watch page, including on a phone, before relying on the broadcast.
- Verify the files advance in the intended order and return to the first file after the last one.
- Use an accurate title and description that explain these are prerecorded walkthroughs and identify the homes or developments appropriately.
Scheduling can provide an upcoming watch page, a URL to share, and reminder options. YouTube recommends setting up in advance, previewing, and testing the stream.
While live and when finished
Keep the computer and OBS running. Monitor picture, sound, file transitions, and whether playback freezes or stops. When you are done, end the stream in YouTube Studio and stop the encoder; check YouTube’s current stream-management interface for the applicable archive behavior.

Choose the setup that fits your operation

Clear rights before streaming property tours
YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. It may show a warning or placeholder, and can interrupt or terminate a stream if the content remains. YouTube also notes that licensed third-party content may still cause an interruption unless the rights owner allowlists the channel through Content ID.

Before going live, confirm that you have the necessary rights for every video, music track, photograph, graphic, and other included material. YouTube’s general copyright guidance does not determine whether you have permission to film a particular property, include occupants, or use sales materials; those permissions depend on your circumstances.
Troubleshoot common failures
