YouTube separates preferred languages, display language, and location, so an India-hosted VM alone will not configure them or guarantee India-specific recommendations or audio tracks.
Before you start
You need an Azure virtual machine with a browser, a YouTube account if the playlist or settings require one, and working outbound internet connectivity. Azure’s network performance depends on the VM size; Microsoft says the allocated network bandwidth is measured on outbound traffic from the VM. Check the VM size’s published network performance rather than assuming every VM has the same throughput.

Confirm that the VM has an outbound connectivity method. Microsoft recommends explicitly defining outbound connectivity for predictable egress; a newly deployed VM may not behave like an older deployment that relied on default outbound access. See Microsoft’s guidance on default outbound access.
Start the playlist in the VM
- Connect to the Azure VM and open its web browser.
- Go to YouTube and sign in if needed.
- Open the playlist page or a playlist shared with you, then select a video to begin playback. YouTube’s playlist help explains playlist management.
- Use the playlist panel and player controls to choose whether playback advances or repeats, as described below.
Set the language you want YouTube to use
YouTube has separate controls for preferred languages, display language, and location. Choose the one that matches your goal; changing one does not necessarily change the others.

Preferred languages for audio, titles, and descriptions
On YouTube web, select Profile picture → Settings → Playback and performance → Language, then add or edit your preferred languages and confirm. YouTube uses these preferences for available audio tracks and for titles and descriptions. This setting does not change search results or recommendations. Follow YouTube’s preferred-language instructions.
Choose an alternate audio track for a video
While a video is playing, open Settings → Audio track and select the offered language. The menu only helps when that video has another audio track; a language preference cannot create a missing dub or track. Track availability can differ from one video to another.

Change display language or location separately
Use YouTube’s profile or settings controls to select a display language and, separately, a location. Display language affects available interface and metadata such as titles and channel names. Location influences recommendations, charts, and news; YouTube does not document it as a guarantee that every search result or video will be region-filtered. See YouTube’s language and location settings help.

YouTube says it can estimate location from IP address, saved home or work address, or device location, so account and device signals may also matter. Its location guidance describes these signals.

Choose how playback continues
Autoplay advances to another related video
Turn on the player’s Autoplay control if you want YouTube to start another related video after the current one ends. Autoplay is not the same as repeating the playlist: YouTube says it can stop after inactivity and may show a “Continue watching?” prompt. Timing varies by device. See YouTube’s autoplay help and the explanation of “Continue watching?”.
Loop the playlist to repeat its videos
To repeat the playlist rather than move on to related recommendations, open a video in the playlist, expand the playlist panel, and select Loop. The loop control repeats that playlist; it does not prevent an inactivity prompt from interrupting playback. YouTube documents the control in its playlist-loop instructions.

Check Azure bandwidth and egress costs
Video playback sends data out of the VM, so consider both the VM’s network performance and Azure’s internet egress charges. The applicable amount depends on the VM size, deployed region, traffic volume, routing, subscription agreement, and current rates; there is no single universal bandwidth rate or exact bill for an unspecified deployment.
Microsoft’s bandwidth pricing page, accessed in 2026, lists the first 100 GB/month of internet egress as free across Azure regions. It groups Central India, South India, and West India in Zone 2; that billing grouping is not a latency recommendation. The page’s prices are estimates, not a customer-specific quote. Check Azure Bandwidth pricing against your subscription and usage.
If playback or language selection does not work
- The playlist will not load: Check the VM’s outbound internet connectivity and browser access. Confirm the selected VM size’s published network performance; a region choice alone does not establish throughput.
- The desired language is not in Audio track: That video may not offer that language. Try another video in the playlist or check its available tracks; preferences cannot add audio that the video does not have.
- Recommendations or search results still look non-local: Preferred language affects available audio and metadata, not search results or recommendations. Location influences recommendations, charts, and news, but YouTube also uses location signals beyond the VM IP.
- Playback stops during a long session: Autoplay may stop after inactivity or YouTube may ask whether you are still watching. The prompt’s timing differs by device, so uninterrupted unattended playback is not assured.
- The Azure bill is higher than expected: Review outbound data volume, VM size, region, and the pricing applicable to your subscription. The pricing page’s free egress allowance and estimates do not replace a deployment-specific calculation.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is not simply to watch a playlist in a VM, but to keep uploaded videos live on a YouTube channel around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera, and it streams to YouTube only. Nothing has to stay on at home; any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
